I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)
Enjoyable Sequel
Julie James is suffering from nightmares. It always takes place at a different location, but the same man is always there with her. His name is Ben Willis and he is a killer. Last summer he stalked and murdered all of Julies friends but she escaped and got away alive. Ever since then it seems she is seeing him everywhere. At school, at home, even in her dreams!
After winning tickets from a local radio station for an island vacation, Julie puts her fears and paranoia aside. But when the bodies pile up and suspicious events arise it becomes clear that Ben Willis has followed her to the island and has made sure she won't get off alive!
I really enjoyed this sequel to "I Know What You Did Last Summer". Although it lacked the suspense of the original, there were some great twists and scares which made the movie fun. The acting was good if not better than the first and this one definitely had more spunk.
I recommend this movie to anyone who liked the first one. There are more scares, twists, and blood! So, go see "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" today...
Splatter University (1984)
Could have been worse...
Splatter University is just another attempt to cash in on the 80's slasher hysteria.
The acting was bad but the script definitely had potential. There were some pretty creative deaths but they were all ruined by the horribly slow pace and unneeded dialogue. For some reason the director felt like following around a bunch of crumby actors who the audience expected were there just to die and then suddenly stopped incorporating them into the film? Why was that? Were they just trying to throw us off or waste our time?
I can't say "Splatter University" was complete trash, I can say that the script and twists could have worked with a better director, bigger budget, and more experienced production team.
Go ahead and see this movie, but don't expect anything better than "okay" or worse...
House on Haunted Hill (1999)
Slick Horror Movie
This movie is a personal favorite of mine. Could it be because I am such a sucker for haunted house movies? Who knows? Anyway the "House on Haunted Hill" remake of the 50's classic was entertaining and full of twists and surprises.
In the movie guests arrive to an old insane asylum that is now being repaired. They were chosen by an eccentric theme park designer for his wife's birthday party. Or were they? Each seemed to have arrived under suspicious circumstances but stay for the promise of a million dollars. The only catch is they have to survive the night...
Doesn't sound hard BUT the house is haunted and is home to an ancient evil. The "evil" in this film was very impressive and so were the effects used to depict the ghosts. There were many special effects and cool camera tricks that added to the horror. Possibly the most stylish horror film to be released that year (1999).
I highly recommend this movie to any horror buff who loves blood and odd forms of torture!
