Unrest in Peace (2023)
Funny modern comedy
Precise, comic editing by Krushan Naik complements Thomas Jiang's direction to create a funny and poignant look at a modern thruple. The relationships in this film are both absurd and disturbingly ungrounded in the best undead way. Saw this short at the Dam Short Film Festival after a day of touring the Hoover Dam, and was thoroughly entertained. Naik's razor sharp eye for detail brings out the best in Jiang's collaboration with some really great actors, especially from Lisa Jacqueline Starrett and Zoe Olivia, both of whom bring an elevated charm and charisma to roles that might have otherwise been routine cat-fight material. So much fun.
Ghost Town (2023)
Great short
Darkly comic cautionary tale, this movie looks freaking amazing and features some lovely performances from co-writers Britt Muse and Molly Harrris. Keep an eye on these two futures stars. The Holidaze of Noelle Snow (2023)
Sweet Elevated Hallmark Inspo
Great little film staring a really wonderful Lauren B. Leigh, who also wrote. Deft direction by Courtney Anne McLaren transforms a low budget short into something that is fun, but also commenting on our modern relationships. Leigh skillfully sells Christmas in a small
corner of a large space, which helps elevate Leigh's already great script. This modern meet-cute with those great Holiday feels is worth the watch! Time to get out of your head
Excellent short film with stellar performances, especially from Steve Lichtenstein and Anthony Robert Grasso. Great message and the idea that it is never to late to change and grow and learn.

Beautiful Heartbreaking Short
This film shines on every level ... beautifully shot and crafted, well written, and stellar performances bring alive the heartbreak that is dementia and family care. The film never talks down to its audience, or to its characters, yet showcases just how hard it can be for family -- especially adult children -- to take care of their cognitively failing reduced parents. Erik Champney's direction takes us on an amazing journey with all three of the film's main characters -- emotional brokenness and all -- to give us a sensitive portrait of the meaning of family under stress, while also sacrificing and doing their best.
Removable (2022)
Excellent film about a largely unknown social issue
Well produced film illustrates just how precarious an immigrants life in the United States can be. Stand-out performance by Yi Liu and confident direction by Shu-Ying Chung make this short worth every minute. The movies point of view places us in the impossible situation of having to choose between safety, and completely upending another persons life, regardless of circumstance. This is the kind of story that forces us to examine the extreme good fortune and privilege that simply being born in the United States affords those of us who are citizens. The very use of the word "Removable" - a government term - as it apples to a human being was not a concept with which I was familiar.

Amazing immigrant story
Just saw this at the Charlotte Film Festival. Brilliant immigrant story from the point of view of a first generation child. Deftly handles sensitive and challenging racial dynamics while confronting the realities of generational disconnect. This is a film that is so specific, and in its specificity finds a connection to our shared humanity. Funny, emotional and so real. This film exists at such an impressively high level of sophistication that it doesn't feel like a student film, but feels in an every way a complete story. Beautiful in every way. Among the best student films I have ever seen. See it in the big screen if you can.
