You've Got Mail (1998)
this film would be OK if it weren't so LONG!
This wasn't the Godfather or Gone with the Wind... why did they make it so long like an EPIC? just over TWO hours long!? They could have shortened it down a half hour easy which would have made it far more entertaining. I rarely get bored with films, but was absolutely DYING after he didn't tell her HE was her secret messenger for EVER.... cut 30 minutes out and maybe you have a decent movie. I see that somehow I haven't written enough for my comment to be long enough either. Sometimes I think things can be summed up in shorter amounts of time. Shorter movies shorter comments, shorter sermons... shorter weddings and funerals would be nice too.
Echo Park (1985)
Great film and didn't anyone notice the pictures?
Excellent film, great cast and didn't anyone notice the pictures that were put in there on purpose (yet done in a subtle way) Like the photos of "Elvira" on the wall in the apartment (when the actress who played Elvira was also in the film sans the black wig.... Or when Tom Hulce and the boy went to deliver the pizza and Hulce stopped briefly to pause to look at the photo of Wolfgang Amadeus on the wall of the house? (Hulce was nominated for an academy award for his depiction of Amadeus two years earlier before this film)
I really thought the writing was superb too and ...God it even made me miss Los Angeles!
I give this film a 9 out of 10. I hadn't seen it since my teens when it came out and was so glad to get to see it again on cable.
I highly recommend it...an intelligent well directed pic for all.
Freaks and Geeks (1999)
Theee best show ever on Television
Maybe just the best TV series ever........although it was so short lived. I've read the articles and this show had so much competition including a few times it was canceled because of Superbowls and other such stupid reasons (I'd rather watch this show than the superbowl any day)
IT's sad too because the show had character depth and was good... really good...well thought out , great plot great writing. great everything.
God, it seems only the trash ends up making it long term on tv and all the good quality shows die young.
Sad :(

Bounce (2000)
Boring boring Ben
Paltrow was fairly good and as many other reviewers said she was the only thing that saved this film because Affleck was a bore and is such a fake actor. I've never seen him do well in any film he's done. His smile his words--everything is fake fake fake.
It's so obvious he's acting I can barely stand watching him. Poor Script on this film too. I give it a 3 out of 10. Bad :((
Raising Arizona (1987)
Incredibly funny and entertaining!!!
This one makes my top 5 comedy films list of all times!
I read some review where the guy said the cinematography was alright--whatever!
The music, acting, script and everything else in this film is SUPERB!
I am not a huge Nick Cage fan but he gets my vote for this film.
I mean....the lines in this film! "Son you got a panty on yer head" and oh God I could go on and on.
A 9.5 out of 10.
I loved it!
In the Bedroom (2001)
In the Bedroom is where I should have been sleeping...
instead of watching this lousy tired boring depressing LONG film. My God with all the critical acclaim it received I just kept waiting for it to get better. I read so many reviews afterwards that said the same thing; this is it??!?!
Lame script and while Sissy Spacek's acting was good (I guess) I just don't see what the big deal was. I wish someone would have warned me from wasting my time, money and brain power on this two hour BORE.
Dangerous Beauty (1998)
An incredible artful masterpiece!
What a great film! It actually shows some insight into the world of a Courtesan. If only a film could be made like this of the modern day courtesan! Of course, in the US, any type of call girl, mistress or escort is viewed as some sad drug addicted woman who needs serious help. (Kind of like poor ole Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman--she had to be saved by the oh so handsome Richard Gere. Please! Spare me!
I think it has something to do with the Puritanical views that still are upheld in our country.... God forgive anyone who sins in the name a' da' lord!
This film was wonderful; the scripts, actors, locations cinematography.
A strong 9 out of 10.
Creator (1985)
Peter O'Toole is a genius
I loved O'Toole more than ever in this film. I just read someone else's review who didn't like it --one of their reasons was that they couldn't believe that O'Toole's character just let Spano's Character (Boris) come in and work for him just because he walked in the door. But that is exactly what make's O'Toole's character! He WOULD do something like that! He is so off the wall! Lol. I know if his character existed in real life he would most certainly do that!
I thought this film was so similar to real life and while it may be too heart felt to some people (especially MEN!) I think there are many lessons to be learned from it. Look, I love horror/thrillers more than anything and that is what makes up most of my top 10 films. But Creator does slip in there --Hemingway is just made for the part. I think the script is clever, fresh , funny and delivered so perfectly by all involved. I am also a huge fan of Ms. Madsen who was also perfect. They ALL were fantastic and now that I think of it I need to find this film on DVD Pronto!
Excellent cast, film script and set! (I love Santa Barbara)
Watch it! and enjoy think and learn.
I Am Sam (2001)
The film that makes you think AND feel.
Maybe it was the beautifully redone Beatles songs, or the fact that the film had to do with adoption (which I myself am adopted) Or maybe it had to do with the fact that I could relate to Michelle Pfeiffer's character so much---drinking diet drinks, using that voice activated cell phone or driving and LIVING too fast, but the film hit me...and hit me hard.
I think Sam had a very valuable lesson to teach Michelle Pfeiffer's character Rita...and teach us all.
All you DO need is love.
Whose child had the better existence? Sam's daughter? Or his lawyer Rita's son?
I think I'd rather be with a retarded father than parents who were never home and didn't give a sh^#t.
This movie made me take a hard look at how I act and live and how maybe if we just have a little more love for ourselves and others that perhaps things will be better.....
Great film , score, soundtrack, actors, words, script.
I don't care what the critics say or this bs about it being so easy to play a retarded man with "limited emotions"
Since when do mentally handicapped people have limited EMOTIONS?
I can't believe a leading critic said that.
Whatever.
He's the one with the limited emotions.
I am Sam slightly changed my life and I will never see things quite the same again ;))
I give this film a 10 ...something I don't do too often.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
I thought it was real......
I'd fortunately gotten an advanced copy of this film from a friend who worked for a studio. He was smart enough to tell me that the whole thing was real and that these were actual tapes they found of these lost kids. I saw that sci fi show that looked like a documentary and really thought I was watching actual footage. I was scared to death. I think if I'd known the real story it wouldn't have had the same effect. But it sure was effective when you think what you're seeing isn't acting and is real. I loved it. Brilliant original scary and GOOD!
Gabriela (2001)
I can't believe this film is so highly rated.
The film wasn't terrible but it sure isn't a 8 point something. I cannot believe people rated it this highly. It was contrived, the acting was so -so and the music was awful. Is there perhaps another movie by the same name that people were mistakenly voting for? Because this movie is average at best. Do not waste your time watching it. I am sorry I did.
Hysterical Blindness (2002)
Bad hair bad clothes but good acting............
I just saw this movie debut this evening on HBO. While I felt that all the actors were superb in their performance I also felt that there should be more of a story-line. I also thought too much time was spent on trivial dialogue between Thurman and Lewis about hairspray, what to drink , where to sit in the bar and what not, but maybe that was the intention of the director....
I think the desperation that Thurman's character came across very well in her acting ... I did like the interaction between her and her mother and Gazarra but didn't quite buy the close relationship/best friend bond that was supposed to exist between Thurman and Lewis...
Overall it was pretty good and I give it a 7.
