Bad movie, good director
20 December 2002
Movie is taking on the side of Greek Side, and it just likes MIDNIGHT EXPRESS. Filmmaker Chrissanthou made a very bad movie but he is a good director at all. For example TO TEICOS MAS is his best (with Niyazi Kizilkereviz, I think) But this movie is a really bad one of his movies. His other movie "Footprints of Aphrodite" might be a bit better.

nice movie with clishéS
12 November 2002
It is a nice movie. It is about prisons and writers in the jails. Based on the true story of Cetin Altan, (writer & father of Ahmet - Mehmet Altan) this movie was cutted in Turkey because it shows tortures in Turkish jails, just like mn express. Nice movie, but in some scenes you feel clishés.

Cypriot Director's Beautiful Film
8 September 2002
Turkish Cypriot Director Dervis Zaim made this movie with only a little money, three main players and a few theatre players. It became a new masterpiece after its premiere in 1996. It won 20 awards in Turkey and Out Of Turkey in the countries Canada USA England Germany and also Italy. With its beautiful music, widescreen presentation and also the unforgettable ending, it is the masterpiece of our Cypriot director. Also its DVD is great and there's available english, german and french subtitles. Beautiful unforgettable movie.

(A) Brilliant Movie by a Brilliant Director
5 September 2002
One of the greatest movies that I have ever seen, this movie is also the best movie of David Lean (with Lawrence and Kwai) and also his last movie. He made this movie about 5 or 6 years before his dying. It was nominated for 11 Academy Awards in the same year with Amadeus (Milos Forman) and won 2 of them. I think the most beautiful performance in this movie is not Peggy Ashcroft's. Alec Guinness and Victor Banerjee is so great in the movie, also young Judy Davis had a nomination for Best Actress Oscar and she's also great. When I looked back to my memories at first I remember that unforgettable, Academy Award Winning music, a beautiful court scene, its dialogues and also the scenes in the Maribar Caves. I did not like the ending which Judy Davis comes to the window after she reads the letter of Aziz, cries a bit and goes. I think Lean may also finish the movie before this scene, which the car goes and Aziz looks behind it. I think last Davis scene isn't necessary. A beautiful, unforgettable film. Its DVD is also so nice. Watch it! And then watch it again!
