Pitch Black (2000)
Vin Diesel, one of Americas acting gems?
This film is the turning point in Vin Deisel's career, Can you not see the effortlesness at which he plays a plain faced, expressionless monotone hero. It must have been difficult for him to pull it off being the bubbly personality he has.
But seriously this film just shouts for him to get an oscar for his passionate performance. I cannot see how he didnt get nominated. Even for his other roles in Fast and Furious and XXX he just oozes charisma.
I cannot wait for his next film?!
Pitch Black is an average film. 5/10
Blade (1998)
Take it at face value......
After seeing this film for the third time I have to say that now I have finally managed to enjoy it. I feel i know why this time. I took the film at face value. There is no storyline to it that hasnt been done before. Yes the CGI looked dated even when it was released and looks even more dated now, but its not about that. Its all about the stylised violence. Wes is no Bruce Lee but he does manage to pull off the "marshal arts?!" extremely stylisticly. So when you do see this film don't expect to be seeing anything but an all out action film "MTV generation" stylee. 6/10
Saiyûki (1978)
Pigsey?
How can this be faulted. The great dubbing!! the fight scenes!! the monkey magic!!
I am not joking, this is just full of magic, the charicters, Pigsey, Monster, Monkey. And the indeterminable sex of the master.
And the excellent storylines, you almost felt you had become buddist after watching an episode.
9/10
Hackers (1995)
I could have directed this film better!
Where do i start.
Well i can tell you where, the plot is believable. Until the CGI comes in. Anyone with a vagfue knopwledge of computers knows that if you are a hacker you do not use such graphics on the screen when hacking, the most you use is a beautiful green on black or black on white this is just because.
The phone "Phreaking" absolutely brilliant and true. in america at one point a cereal gave away a whistle which mimmiced the tone of a call so that long distance calls could be made, it lost the company millions.
The set for "Gibson" computer where does that come from. No computer is run like that anywhere in the world. It did make me want to gag half the time and have a good old fingers down the throat moment. I didn't.
The direction, set and costume design and CGI was all hollywood. No hackers dress like that. No hackers are cool, no hackers creep out at night to talk about other hacks. Why when you can do it from your room in front of your screen. It is also at that time the "Witching Hour"/
If you want something with a little more substance read The Blue Nowhere, if you have no knowledge of computers go see hackers.
A fun but not frisky 4 outta 10
Taxi 2 (2000)
NINJA
So TAXI out of the way TAXI 2 costs £5.99 as well. So whats a man to do but purchase it again. This film starts better than the first but ends in a bit of a hurry. But saying that, dialogue is better, translation is still a bit iffy in some places but why moan. Its a comedy at heart and its got that beautiful 406 back, wings anyone?
Yamakaze makes its input onto the big screen, a very french thing. Yamakaze is the popping of walls. big falls and surviving.
All your favourite charicters are back and its just as intense as the first but not as good. Its a steady 7 outta 10
Ronin (1998)
Sean Bean
So it's heavy. you got some big guns in this film and its full of more twists than a mcflurry. And its very multinational. Nice european feel, something to make us proud. Its intense and i mean intense. But sometimes not so great. I like this film alot and i love the cast. i would give it 8 outta 10 but if you want something lighter watch Taxi.
ONE OF THE GREATEST CAR CHASE SCENES EVER!!!
Taxi (1998)
So there is one good thing to come out of France.
Well its taken me roughly one and a half years for me to purchase this and at £5.99 i couldnt refuse. So get home, plug it in. Read the subtitles and have to say was pretty much gripped. Yes the storys not up to much, but the 2 boys are just that...BOYS. They never grew up. This film is any modders dream. The scene where the guy wants to go to the airport. Magic. The profiles, the spoiler...is there any more. Yes theres very french influence (Pergeot 406 against Germans), but to be honest after a while it ends up being quite english. France V Allemand = England V Germany. So saying that if you go in with an open mind theres no reason not to come away feeling fuller. 8.5/10
