Knowing (2009)
Great Until they couldn't figure out how to end it, took the easy way
It's the kind of movie you really enjoy especially if you're a devout Sci-Fi fan.
But the ending, I understand, but why? How could the writers take the easy way out! At the end it felt just like I was watching a rerun of "The Ten Commandments" and not what was up to that point a moving, well written, well acted with the right amount of computer graphics; a script, a movie that pinned me to my chair!
But that sense of terror and excitement vanished quickly, as soon as I recognized the overdone out of date theme characterized by aliens as stand-ins for angels. And the Adam and Eve scene at the end
very disappointing.
It is a great movie until the end
I hate to see this happen to a movie that could have become a modern day classic. If you don't believe me then check out the critic community... it says it all.
I must say to one of my favorite actors
Nick, as usual great acting. Greg.
Loving Annabelle (2006)
The Lesbian subject matter is not the important aspect of this film live and let live is
Diversity, Dissimilarity, love, acceptance, freedom = power, control, prejudice, hatred, murder, destruction
our enlightened universe.
The Lesbian subject matter is not the important aspect of this film live and let live is. We all share the responsibility to create a place of reasonability and understanding.
I do not agree with the author's adult/teenager setting; it is an inappropriate vehicle for exploring what I would call a very important aspect of prejudice in our society.
As far as character examination, motivation and plot the writing seemed a little light and the story just too typical. The acting was fair and I believe the reason for it was simply because there was not enough depth or exploration of events in their lives yielding their motivations; the actors simply did not have enough to act on. We never found out much about Annabelle's life as the rebellious daughter of a US Senator. There seemed to be some sort of history between Simone and the principle. Some additional historical shots of Simone's first relationship would have strengthened the performance
If you compare this screenplay to the likes of the writing employed in JUNO ... well.
In spite of this observation what the author is saying is important and this story must be told and retold in the many forms where prejudices rear their ugly heads until there is no longer a need for it.
I do have one question: the license plates, when Simone was taken away, read GOVERNMENT and not police? FBI, CIA, NSA
since Annabelle was the daughter of a very powerful US Senator will we ever see Simone again?
The Air I Breathe (2007)
Of very little value; poorly written and executed
Truly amazing and sad to see such great acting talent involved in something as poorly written and directed as this tragedy for film is. The messages are weak and mostly non existent in their delivery to the audience. The tomato meter gave it just 10 percent
personally it should have been closer to 3
Below are just a few of the many comments from critics (and these were kind)
Rex Reed: New York Observer - For rock-bottom nasty, with no social relevance, there is The Air I Breathe, a load of amateurish bilge so silly I thought I was watching a screening at Comedy Central.
Carina Chocano: LA Times - stew of cheap irony, ponderous but meaningless allegory, violence and pretension, the movie is all borrowed style and calculated pandering. It does, however, get more ludicrous by the minute. So in that sense, it's good for an occasional laugh.
