Overboard (1987)
great script; great comic timing
I consider myself an intellectual, and I loved this movie.
The premise was rather gimmicky, and the acting was superb. The comic timing of the actors was perfect.
I don't usually comment on films on IMDb, but I felt that this one was getting a bad rap for being a goofy film with some overused stereotypes.
But the characters come off in a three dimensional manner and you see them struggle to get out of their old patterns.
And for the Hawn character, she has to re-imagine her world twice; each time with touching and hilarious results.
I need to catch the very beginning of this, gosh darn it, as I missed it on amc.
Behind Forgotten Eyes (2007)
some parts in bad taste
Found in particular bad taste the interjection of cheesy and sexually suggestive condom video and cheesy clip of man unzipping pants.
These were apparently meant to be funny, but were not.
Also, use of "japanimation" or "anime" styled anime complete with anime "voices" was really not quite right, especially considering the particular voice used.
Also, interjection of video clip from "kung fu chopsocky" flick with English dub-over (apparently) was out of place.
And the use of apparently historical propaganda posters mixed in with apparently real photos and current video, all without explanation made it seem sometimes that the girls who were enslaved somehow enjoyed their time in the comfort stations.
Finally, I'd like to say that there is nothing wrong with making a straight-up serious documentary, especially when the topic is war and sex slavery.
Why can we not simply be serious without being "entertaining" or "ironic" or just too clever for our own good? My name is Irwin Tang, and I am a writer/author living in Austin, Texas.
