Surprisingly good
1 November 2020
After the first 10 minutes I wasn't sure but I'm glad I stuck with it...has a low budget feel to it but very impressively done and enjoyable...

The Nightingale (I) (2018)

Great film
21 October 2019
Tasmania in 1825 is depicted as a cold, cruel place, particularly for the local aboriginals and women generally....probably very realistic,

The acting in this was very good, the storyline i thought was also good with a typical revenge style theme,

There are some very violent scenes,

Its a film i cant imagine anyone would forget in a hurry so it has a strong impact and delivers quite a punch...

Maybe a little long and slightly disjointed in parts,

Overall a big tick and this will sit proudly amongst some of the best Australian films..

Ad Astra (2019)

Weak story
22 September 2019
Ill give it 7/10 mainly because Brad Pitt was great in it, I found the story very weak and the film just meanders along with little action or intensity,

Donald Sutherlands character seemed to add nothing and then disappears suddenly --- the pirates on the dark side of the moon as well, why would they be there in such an isolated spot, robbing no-one ? The nuclear blast just missing the ship but providing enough propulsion to get the ship back to earth was ridiculous,

Brad Pitt is a great actor however and his gestures and subtle ways carry the film, Some of the details like inside the space crafts was very well done,, its a 7 at best.

Moving
28 September 2018
I watched this doco on a plane a year or so ago and I still think about it. If an Australian today won the silver medal in the 200 metres at the Olympics he would be a national hero. Not only did Peter Norman do this he had the guts to stand up for the greater good of black rights...to be ostracised was a crime and was complete madness by the Australian Olympic management at the time and in 72 and in 2000...unbelievable..

Full credit to Matt Norman and the family for telling the story..thank you for making the effort as it moved me....

Very funny....if you like that sort of humour
26 August 2016
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, many funny moments.

My wife wasn't as enthusiastic and when i asked her why she said she was cringing because of the awkward moments brought on by Ricky's character...David Brent.

The only thing Ricky Gervais has in common with other British comedians is that they love to laugh at themselves...make a goose of themselves....e.g John Cleese...Apart from that he is definitely one of a kind.

The humour is an extension of his character in "The Office", if you liked this series then you will get the humour and will enjoy this movie.

The plot centre's around David wanting to have a shot at fame and self finances a thrown together band and books a week's worth of venues. Barely anyone turns up and even his own band doesn't like him.

The plot is OK...You can tell that David Brant despite all the 'foot in mouth' moments is a genuine tryer and does garner some sympathy towards the end of the movie. its apparent the humour does disguise an individual seeking acceptance and genuine friends.

I had many good laughs - an easy 8/10 for me...
