Kitty Mammas (2020)

Funny Indie Comedy

The trailer got me on the fence as to watch this or not, but the synopsis: "A disgraced fertility doctor runs a clinical trial in which four women give birth to kittens." Was just so enticing I had to check it out. And I'm glad I did.

This is a pretty funny low budget Canadian comedy. I was really impressed overall by the relatively big cast especially: Janet Porter, Zarrin Darnell-Martin and (in smaller roles) Helene Robbie, Billy MacLellan, Ramona Milano. Were just really funny and on point.

Only Stephanie Belding and especially Michael James Regan kind of bombed. And that last one was made even worse thanks to sup-par unnatural editing for his scenes.

My biggest critique is that the film did not end right after the first birth. There is an extra 15 minutes after to forcefully tie up all the story ends but you won't care an you will be bored. The cat is already out of the bag, literally. My advice, just turn it off after you pull yourself together from laughing from the singular best joke and moment of the film. The film weirdly seems to take itself too serious after it, destroying the beautiful absurdity, tone and comedy of the rest of the film.

Also to be honest I'm biased and really don't like cats or people that especially like them. This film however makes fun of cat lovers and ended up being a real treat! So if you have a similar sentiment don't let it stop you giving this film a try.

Decent Film - Slice of Life meets Rom-Com and Drama

Had a enjoyable evening with my partner watching this. Its really a pretty decent film, editing, cinematography are mostly on point. The dialogue goes from really decent, flowing and fresh to random out of place pop references, mostly to movies. Its not too frequent though but when it happens it hurts the at times already shaky acting a bit. Some actors were really good, the sister, played by Lydia Meredith, was really promising for instance even though she had a really small role but also the two leads are mostly on point. Isabella Pisacane is a nice red herring for the Rom-Com part, she intentionally really does look likes she would like to have sex with the lead in every scene until she is suddenly not anymore. The sometimes shaky acting does not hurt the film though, it sort of makes it feel more real and at times more endearing, some are obviously not experienced actors but proper editing smooth things over as far as possible. It can add some misplaced comedy, but who doesn't love that in a Rom-Com or film in general?

There is decently written character development for the important characters and the film feels unique in some parts that are usually cliché. The music is a bit bonkers but I'm really impressed with this film overall as its probably really low budget. At times it feels like watching a filmmaker student film, but like a graduation one that is actually pretty good. I like how the theme of disability is actually explored a bit in a natural way and does not feel like a gimmick nor the main focus of the film.

A random thing that was very noticeable is that there is a lot of picking up shots of the lead, but never a full placing down one? Maybe this is a tediously long or difficult process that can only be done by an actual trained person or something or it hurt the flow of a scene cause it was hard to get the right camera angles for it, I'm just speculating, but I would have liked it to be shown at least once fully as he is picked up a lot but we only see it cut to the final placement. Its too often to go unnoticed.

One thing I thought was a bit left unexplored is the sex that happens at the end of the movie. Not a word is spoken about it after so the viewer is left with something that was forebodingly said about it earlier in the movie, something in the lines of: 'after she has a bad breakup you'll make her feel good as a friend', direct quote: "... she'll finally decides to suck you pecker." which sounded like the guy was talking about pity sex in a disparaging way. But the actual sex scene feels more like a nice gesture to a loving friend. It was interesting to see the topic of sex being used to comfort a close loved one even though there is no sexual attraction or relationship explored here.

They could have maybe done more on this but maybe the confusion you are left with from the scene is how you are meant to feel as the lead certainly looks bewildered too. Also the sex is seriously implied but the she still has this long underwear on when she steps off him? It added to the overall confusion and I would have liked to see the aftermath of this, did Woods have to get involved? Also a little more communication during the scene could have given the audience some more insight in how this physically worked which is simply interesting as also stated by another character in the film.

This film does a lot of the important things right, its an interesting and fun watch. I'd watch a sequel where the lead maybe goes after love a bit more productively and the interesting side-characters are explored a bit more. Its not a 10, I don't know what all the other reviewers have been drinking. But it is certainly a strong directorial debut and a thoroughly enjoyable film.

Human Planet (2011)

An absolute delight to watch.

BBC has done it again. As the worlds leading nature film producer, BBC has given us another epic.

Human Planet tells the tales of the most remarkable and intuitive humans on this planet. With beauty full landscape shots and relaxing story telling. Human Planet is certainly a pleasure to watch. But it does not only give pleasure to your eyes. It shows strange cultures and their survival, narrated by John Hurt.

The big line throughout the series is a bit faint and while the episodes have their own theme. The shorts inside an episode sometimes do feel a bit random. But that won't bother you. You will be amazed by some of the bizarre or clever humans we have on this planet.

Although some of the shots are really good. Overall the Human Planet does not live up to the expectations after "Planet Earth" and "Life". Although the Human Planet has a more realistic feel to it because of the use of colour. It doesn't have the WOW factor that its predecessors had, throwing over saturated in HD in your face. Although I do prefer that, the Human Planet is a really nice addition to the best nature series of today.

Guilty pleasure

This must be one of the worst films I have ever seen. But I must say I quite enjoyed it. The script and especially the dialogues are so bad that is just makes you laugh out loud. It has all sorts of clichés in fact this whole film is one big cliché except that the hero is like really old and looks like he had his best days. But of course since the star of the film, (that old guy I told you about) is also the director. So suddenly he is the hottest guy and every girl wants him really bad.

It seems like a big parody on the action film genre while actually this is supposed to be really serious. With lines like "What is the tactical situation?" "We have a tactical difficult situation" its really hard to take this film serious. Its fun to watch since its just that bad. But when your not humorous about that kind of film, don't watch this crap.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)

Realism is gone

Indiana jones and the Crystal skull is a nice movie. But isn't like the movies before. They had a to big of a budget and now everything that happens is over the top. This is very sad because now the feel of indy is gone and the time the movie takes place isn't seriously anymore. Again its over the top Hollywood and you get tired of very fast. Also I thought raiders of the lost arch was weird but this time its with aliens but still the story was pretty good only the action and stunt where over the top and ruined the movie for me. I wanted to see indy like the the old days only a bit older but now it looks like a cheap movie with all the big stunts and like they thought "lets do things big then people must love it!"
