The Last Word (2017)
Another Great Story
Growing old and dying... Something we all will do. Individual definitions of "old" may differ, but we are all in the same boat. This movie presents the viewer with a poignant yet humorous map of how we can get from here to there. It makes you think and smile while dealing with a subject that is somewhere between uncomfortable and terrifying for most of us. My thanks to all involved! It was entertaining and educational at the same time - a rare feat!
This Beautiful Fantastic (2016)
What a good movie should be.
I spent a very pleasant 100 minutes watching this movie. It was a good STORY. It was not filled with special effects, violence, or nudity. I can/have/will continue to enjoy all those things in movies, but it was refreshing to relax and enjoy a good story.
The movie was slightly predictable, but in a good way. As I got caught up in the story I wanted those things to happen. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016)
Book was great, Movie was okay
If I have read a good book, and they make a movie based on that book, I look forward to seeing the movie. I very much enjoyed the book this movie was based on. I thought the movie was okay.
I understand that movies can seldom be made to follow the book exactly. But this movie was pretty far removed from the book. If it were any further removed from the book it would have become a "separate story taking place in Miss Peregrine's universe."
That having been said, it was still entertaining.
John Carter (2012)
Hollywood, when will you learn?
I enjoyed this movie because I enjoy these types of movies. But I've been waiting 46 years for this movie to be made. 46 years ago I read the book this movie was based on. I went on to read all the books in the Edgar Rice Burroughs Martian series and have read them all several times since.
The book the movie was based on was written in 1912. So for 100 years generation after generation has enjoyed Mr. Burroughs' works. The movie makers changed so much about this story it makes me think all those changes contributed to the movie's failure at the box office.
The original book was short by today's standards. It could have easily been made into a movie without changing a thing. Apparently the Hollywood moguls felt they had to improve on a formula that's been successful for 100 years. Arrogant for them. Sad for me.
