Kingudamu (2019)
Good story and script spoiled by main actor
This movie has all the elements of what you would expect from a movie like this. Action, story, history, interesting characters etc. Its all there.... except the main character's actor goes out of his way to just spoil everything with his over the top acting. I'm not sure how the director didn't just tell him to turn it down a notch or two but at points you just find it hard to take him seriously and are stunned that this is the protagonist and the one you're supposed to be backing and taking seriously. I remember watching the same actor in another show he did called Alice in Borderland and he carries the same over the top acting from there. The difference is over there he is surrounded by children so it its ok, while here in a historical piece, he doesn't match the role at all. I'm certain this movie rating would have been 7.5-8 overall if it was cast by a different lead.
Afwaah (2023)
Ruined towards the end
This movie started out very good. The story is very watchable and there was alot of political tensions that were well represented in the movie (even though Hindu-Muslim drama seemed a bit exaggerated). Nawazuddin Siddiqui did a great job and the heroine beside him did good as well (some overacting was there). However towards the end of the movie (after 75%) the movie completely falls off a cliff. It feels like the writer did not know how to resolve the conflicts that were presented and started doing typical Bollywood drama that was too much and makes no sense. This really ruined the feel for the movie and affected the rating I gave as Im sure it did for many others.
Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns (2013)
7 stars for the movie up till the middle
Irrfan Khan put on an amazing performance here. Story was brilliant, acting was great, all up until the middle where things started to get confusing and story gets ruined. Even Irrfan cannot save it after that. Alot of plot holes, lost pace, and overall seems like a different movie. Could have been an amazing 10/10 but I still is worth watching.
Death Note: Desu nôto (2006)
Huge disappointment, especially acting wise.
As a big, big fan of the anime, I must admit I had high hopes for this movie. I was overall however, left feeling disappointed. L's character may look like him but his acting is horrible, along with Light. Light's good looks, suave, and brilliant schemes aren't nearly as well portrayed in the movie either. I understand that some of the stuff needed to be cut to try and fit the anime as a movie but some scenes added(like the art gallery scene) are completely unnecessary and over the top. They also misrepresent Light's personality vs his anime personality. Watch the movie if you have time but I have a feeling most fans of the anime will be left thoroughly disappointed after watching it.
Death Note: Desu nôto (2006)
Best Anime I Have Ever Seen
This anime is perfect in every way. From the first intro song, to the plot, storytelling, tension, character development. Everything. Flawless. A quick summary without spoilers that will not do it justice.... The story follows Light Yagami, a student who one day discovers a journal which primary rule states that any name written inside will result in death of that person. Light initially in disbelief "tests" its power and finds that it does in fact do what it says. Equipped with the journal, Light Yagami becomes the embodiment of what is his view of "justice". If there was ever a time to get into an anime and you have yet to see Death Note, which in my opinion rivals the greatest of greatest anime, its now.
Man of Tai Chi (2013)
Not bad
Nice movie to waste time, but the acting was pretty bad overall, especially by Reeves. I do think hes a good actor but definitely not in this movie. For his directional debut, the movie was well directed by Reeves but he should either focus solely on acting in the movie or directing it, not both. The story line is also very predictable, I didn't see any of the trailers before I watched it and found myself guessing 90% of the story as the movie progressed. Also if you are looking to get your kung-fu fix, this movie isn't a horrible choice but definitely much, much better movies out there.
Tl;Dr: Decent movie, bad acting, good martial arts, much better choices to invest your time in.
