Red Eye (2005)

Totally Preposterous!
6 February 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I'm sick of these girl power movies where the woman somehow takes on all these men and outwits them physically. That's just ridiculous. There's no way this ordinary woman would be able to do this in real life. A mere hotel manager and yet she somehow outdoes professionals who are trained killers.

Bullcrap!

Bring back the days where the men were the heroes and women their sidekicks. Cheavenististic? Who cares? At least it was real. But Hollywood somehow feels the need to insult our intelligence by feeding us crap like this.

At least in Silence of the Lambs, they had the heroine as an FBI agent with training. That was believable. And she only went up against one guy. That I can believe. But this movie insulted everyone's intelligence but trying to get us to believe that this woman is some kind of superhero.

Red Eye shouldn't be listed under "Thrillers", it should be listed under "Fairy Tales."

Losin' It (1982)
You People Are Losin' It
1 April 2003
Lay off this movie, people. It's a teen-age sex romp comedy. It doesn't pretend to be anything more. And as for teen sex-romp comedies, it's pretty entertaining.

Tom Cruise is in it. Shelley Long has a good part. And the guy from Breaking Away has the best character of all. What I really liked about this movie was how it "romanticized" Tijuana. It makes you want to take a trip down there and raise some hell yourself.

This movie is a good time on a Friday night. If you're gonna rent a movie like this, rent this one. You won't be disappointed.

The Best TV Show That Never Was
30 August 2002
This show was an instant hit with me when it first aired. It had a quality that is rarely seen on network TV anymore. Even though the show was in the upper echelon of quality, I knew it wasn't gonna last. It was too different, too smart for the general population. It was kind of like 30-something which appeared a year or two later in that it made you feel and think more than maybe the average American suburbanite wants to when they plop themselves down on their living room couch.

The show will probably never be aired again since it only lasted 1 year--unfortunately the title foreshadowed it's own life span. What may be even sadder is that it could've been the start of a nice acting career for Amanda Peterson who had just done "Can't Buy Me Love" a short time earlier. Once the show cancelled, her career went on a tailspin she never recovered from.

I managed to only tape 1/2 of an episode so if someone has the season on tape, please get in contact with me so we can do business.

A Great Indie Film
2 July 2002
This is a wonderful little film about 4 temps who's friendships with each other slowly dissolves after thefts begin occurring in their office.

The acting is very solid--especially notable is Parker Posey who has a juicy role to play with and makes the most of it. She's always dimensionalizing her character with every sentence she speaks.

The other thing I love about this film is how the director let's the scene play on for a second or two after the last line has been spoken. This allows us to see the reactions of the characters which speaks volumes in this film. These characters true feelings are hidden below the surface and only by looking carefully are we able to see what they're really feeling.

This is a movie anyone can enjoy because it paints a vivid picture of the workplace in general. For those out there who feel like they're overworked and underpaid, you'll be able to empathize with these girls as they struggle in their own jobs.
