The Absurd, Surreal, Metaphysical and Fractured Destiny of Cerebus the Aardvark (2021)
An enjoyable showcase of multiple animation styles
I really enjoyed "Cerebus" not only for its tale of adventure and discovery but also because the style of the movie recalled so many of my favorite animated films.
I kept recalling the whimsicality of "Wallace and Gromit" particularly when it came to the look of Cerebus himself. Lots of action, laughs, and heart-pounding excitement!
The movie had welcome touches like sequences featuring old-fashioned hand-drawn "2-D" animation as well, making the whole experience a delightful journey not only through Cerebus' adventures but through the history of the animated art form itself.
Don't miss "Cerebus the Aardvark"!
Pussy Kills (2017)
Lean, mean, and messy "Kitty Kills" thrills
If you like your revenge thrillers lean, mean, and a little messy, writer-director Gabriel Black's feature "Kitty Kills" might perfect for you. The movie tells the tale of a young woman -- Suzie (Lina Maya) who takes it upon herself to investigate the brutal murder of her parents because the police don't seem able to do anything. While secretly snapping pictures of the killers at work taking out another victim, Suzie gets caught, raped, and is left for dead.
But she rises to the challenge and starts hunting down her abusers one by one, seemingly driven by a confident, violent, and super-assertive personality in her own mind who calls herself "Pussycat" and who will stop at nothing until her own brand of justice is served.
But Pussycat isn't always in charge, so there is the constant threat that scared, meek Suzie will get stuck trying to confront the murderers instead. So the film is a race against time, against Suzie's own weakness and fear, and against a corrupt cop who might turn the tables at the worst possible time.
"Kitty Kills" is a fast-moving, sexy thriller that looks great, sounds awesome, and that never lets up until the bitter end... but who will be left standing? Don't miss it.
Supercool (2021)
Fast, funny, and sexy
"Supercool" opens up a bright, colorful, vibrant, and sexy new world that I never knew existed. It's about a guy named Tim who wants to get with a girl named Sheila so, well, he lies to her. She figures it out on the date and so she ditches him while he is on the phone trying to get his best friend to buy him some more alcohol (because they'd already run out). Problem is, Sheila's father doesn't like teenagers who want to bed his daughter, he orders Tim to have Sheila back home by 8 p.m., and he is a notorious thug who apparently murders people pretty easily. So Tim and his best friend are now racing the clock to find Sheila, fight off whatever idiot she is screwing around with at the moment, and convince her to return home before 8 so Tim can stay alive. Sounds like a typical Saturday in that neighborhood. This movie does not let up, and it's powered by some great music as well as Tim's likable bad-boy persona, quick wit, quicker tongue (often talking himself into trouble that it can't always talk him out of), feisty nature, and another natural gift that may save him at the last possible moment (maybe). Were/are you a kid like this? If so you will love this crazy trip of a movie, weighing in at just under an hour and zooming at full speed every second. Check it out if you can!
