Gooby (2009)

Gooby is sweet and charming!
12 June 2009
My 5 year old (and let's face it, this film is for kids!) loved Gooby. For all you critics out there, remember that children love imaginative creatures and don't need all of the CGI that us adults have become used to. This film reminded me of Harry and the Hendersons with it's goofy big creature and heartwarming story line. The supporting cast is terrific and I am happy that Robbie Coltrane decided to do this project. My son has watched it four times and I know he will wear out his copy. It has the highest rating Dove can give and for good reason. It's just good clean fun. I would like to commend smaller studios for making family films that are not violent and don't use crude humor for cheap laughs.

Everyone is a critic!
17 December 2008
I have seen a negative review on this movie and I have to say that I am very tired of people picking apart movies to show how smart they think they are! This was a tragic and beautifully filmed movie that reminded me so much of The Sweet Hereafter. I believe that some people have a hard time watching others go through tragedy and grief and are uncomfortable expressing themselves. This movie drew a lump to my throat the size of a golf ball and made me hug my son extra hard at bedtime. Michelle Williams gives another outstanding performance and Ewan MacGregor is, as always, a complete pleasure to watch on screen. This film will come out on DVD this year and I would urge anyone with a heart to embrace it.

The Grand (2007)

I laughed so hard I snorted!
14 January 2008
I don't find a lot of films very funny. The Grand made me laugh from beginning to end. I had no idea what to expect going into the film, but I can tell you that I cannot wait to see it again and have recommended it to everyone I know. The cast is outstanding. Woody Harrelson was completely in his element. From the opening credits I was immersed in this world of high stakes gambling, which really isn't so glamorous when you look at it from this angle. The Grand is going to be a cult classic. Zak Penn has done an exceptional job at taking talented actors, great characters and made a film that doesn't go where you expect it to. Thank you for great film making! The Grand is a breath of fresh air.

No critics, just film lovers please!
7 September 2005
Why try to be a film critic? I cannot understand why people can't just sit back and enjoy a very sweet film without picking out every imperfection. Noel is a movie with a lot of heart. Alan Arkin gives an excellent performance as well as Susan Sarandon. While others may not enjoy this movie because it depicts what the holidays are actually like for millions of people, I found it to represent the loss of connection we have all come to know to well. I think that the message is clear, that people need each other to live a life of substance. As individuals we are lost, but with friends, family and love we have hope. I hope the person that fell asleep watching this film did so next to a wife, husband or life partner and that they just didn't appreciate the film because they can't comprehend what it is like to be alone. I will watch this film every year with my family. It will remind us to be grateful for having each other. Thank you Chazz for taking the time to make this film.

Really great little movie!
9 May 2005
I don't usually comment on films since I am in the movie distribution business, but I have to say that this is one of my favorite films of all time. The acting is fantastic and the script is even better. There were no cheesy speeches or exploitation of handicapped people to try and make this movie more "Hollywood". James McAvoy is such an outstanding actor, I could not look away from him if I tried. I was impressed with Steven Robertson as well. I cannot believe this is his first real film. Brenda Fricker plays a small role, but as usual, she is outstanding. This is a movie for everyone to see just how lucky we all are. If you like Awakenings and Mask, you will enjoy this story. You owe it to yourself to check this film out.
