Elephant (2003)
Many questions not answered
This is a long movie. Actually, it's only 1 hour and a half but it drags. There are long scenes with only a student walking through the hallways. . We see the same scene several times from a different angle. I suppose the reason is to connect characters. But we don't get to explore
or even suppose the reasons 2 high school students would shoot up a school. What made them like they are? What is missing. They are well educated. Well fed. Their home is safe, sound and sanitary. Mom makes them pancakes before leaving in the morning. We know they are involved in homosexuality with each other by the shower scene. Fascinated with Hitler. One of the killers is bullied. But our questions are not answered which makes me wonder why make the movie?
Fargo (2014)
All four seasons had me hooked!
I've been wondering if there was a season 5 a coming! To my delight-yes!! Great storyline just like the movie but if you didn't see the movie, you won't be lost. Season 1 starts with Billy Bob Thornton who comes to the aid of a bullied stranger. With his new empowerment, the once timid man takes control of his life making deadly mistakes along the way. Each season is subtly threaded to the last season. It ends with season 4 with Chris Rock playing a gangster from the 1940s. Who said Chris can't act? Oh yes he can! Key and Peele make an appearance with light comedy as two detectives in season two or three. Jeffrey Donovan from Burn Notice is in season two or three. You will forget all about Burn notice. All of the characters were intriguing but there was one (I believe it was season 3) who I loathed. He was repulsive. You'll know who I'm talking about when you see him. It's been several months since I watched this on HULU and I hope season 5 is just as good as the last four.
Wu-Tang: An American Saga: Dirty Dancin' (2023)
Absolutely delightful
I enjoyed this episode so much I watched it twice. The mind of Old Dirty B goes back to the 1970s for inspiration for his solo album. He is Dirt McGirt - an obscene comedian. RZA is a friend and a no nonsense club owner. He does a great job playing that role. (They all do) Divine is Superfly (sorta). RZA's stepdad plays Don Cornelius from soul train and his mother is the head of a numbers syndicate Dirt goes too far and is kicked out the club and gets tangled up with the numbers queen. That turns into a dangerous mess and he becomes an undercover brother to get free of the numbers queen and also save Don Cornelius. In the end, Dirt comes to terms with who he is.
The Architect (2016)
A married couple hire an architect to build their house
A really good story until you get to the end. The resolution of the plot was done quickly and left me unsatisfied.
A couple hires an architect to build them a house. The wife is an artist and the husband is a financial planner. Their personalities are the opposite of each other. She is spontaneous and he is logical and disciplined. They want something creative, something that isn't a cookie cut design with a two car garage on a parcel in the suburbs. Behind a house they were looking at is a stunning house built circular. It is known as the "Hatch House" They find that architect but to be prudent, they also consider another. They hire the creative architect who had given them the lowest bid who also is the one who designed the house they had admired.
He turns out to be a nightmare. Impractical designs.Overbudget. the couple butt heads. The husband is concerned about the budget and resale value. She thinks the architect is appealing to her artistic spirit but he has his own ambitions. It almost destroyed the marriage. She learns that this is the first commission for the architect-that his father's business partner really designed the "Hatch house" and that the architect is a big phoney.
But I don't get the ending. The couple reconcile. What did they do with the white elephant of a house? Are we to assume the baby is her husband's and not the architects? (she had a one night affair with the architect) How did they couple work it all out?
