Wizard (2017)
Heartfelt coming of age story
Kagiso Lediga rarely disappoints. The writing was well researched, solid performances from the cast, the editing and the score was brilliant. The nostalgia alone will reduce you to puddle of tears on how beautiful and how tragic life can be in kasi. A laudable salutation to Atteridgeville.
Rick and Morty: Rickdependence Spray (2021)
Hilarious
On man, reminded me of David Cross's brilliant rip on Trump on his latest special.
"100% male marines" love the crazy Obama schtick.
Briiliant episode. Very honest.
The Crown (2016)
Brilliant
Another brilliant portrayal of another British icon by an American. She had large shoes to fill after John Lithgow's phenomenal portrayal of the iconic Winston Churchill. And fill them she did. Gillian Anderson deserves several awards for her Margaret Thatcher
Angel Has Fallen (2019)
We are a terrifying species
We put this one up there with the likes of Michael Clayton and Sicario. Another dark but meticulous, clinical production using very clean writing managed to beautifully portray that when advanced human intellect and technological phenomena is used to feed the cravings of inherently violent men, a rush innate in many men, it can make for incredibly sobering viewing.
Paul Mooney: Jesus Is Black - So Was Cleopatra - Know Your History (2007)
Brilliant but not for the thin-skinned
Most social commentators, mainly comedians, think that they are edgy but lets be honest most, if not all, have limits, but that's not the case with Paul Mooney.
He has the amazing ability of finding that darkness in race relations, a darkness some would like forgotten or ignored because of the pain in the injustice of it and then point it out in such a way that we can't help but laugh at the comedy aspect of it but then sigh at the immensity of its truth. His jokes are very cleverly crafted and while they might offend you they will cause you to admire the art in them.
Listening to Paul Mooney shows you the potency of the truth. If you think you are open-minded, if you think you believe in free speech, if you think you have the courage to speak your mind to whomever you want then watch & listen to Paul Mooney perform, he will be your litmus test to verify that.
Except for the late Tupac Shakur, the most conscious of rappers fails to portray the kind of boldness that Paul Mooney does. A legend in our lifetime.
