I See You (2019)
Great concept. Lackluster execution.
Sadly, seasoned actors were unable to the deliver the convincing performances put forth by the young newcomers in this movie. Perhaps better direction and script could have improved the quality of this movie which, I believe, had a worthwhile premise. I would have liked to see less ambiguity about the main characters, more development of their story and far better execution in the telling. We are only given a fleeting explanation of the main character's motivation, as more or less an afterthought. The only reason to watch his movie to the end is due to the performances by the younger actors and to discover who gets what, why and how at the end.

It Certainly Held My Attention
Although saddened, and occasionally repulsed, by the likely reality of the subject matter, I was engrossed in this movie. It was done with subtlety so as not to be exploitative, yet the message was clear. Gillian Jacobs and Evan Ross both did an excellent job of portraying their characters, as did young Ryan Simpkins. This movie was dark matter dealt with in a manner that required a delicate touch. On that level it was successful. The movie might have been better supported with better scripting for several of the supporting characters, who may have been miscast. But overall, a very watchable movie.
