War of the Worlds (2019)
Still don't know why the aliens wanted us all dead.
The first episode was involving, but it just kept getting more and more boring after that. By the end of the third season, you'll feel like you're wading thru molasses.
Nevertheless, I managed to burrow my way thru the whole thing, and yet I still don't know why the aliens found it necessary for everyone on Earth to die. Nor why/how receiving a musical radio message from Earth triggered the whole attack. These initial mysteries are never really explained.
This is another one of these shows where people are tip-toing around silently yet shining super-bright flashlights all over the place. The robot technology doesn't look too different from what we currently have on Earth. Not clear why the invaders couldn't have brought cars, tanks, helicopters, etc. Lots of implausible coincidences.
Lots of crappy pseudoscience. The final attack on Earth is thwarted via pure meaningless technobabble.
A Trip to Infinity (2022)
Disappointing.
Not a tenth as mind-bending as it should have been. No mention of absolute infinity, only a brief hint at the different sorts of infinities, no real attempt at conveying scale (eg. Not even a cursory exploration of monstrously large numbers), etc., etc.
One gets the distinct impression that 'inclusivity' was a consideration WRT their list of experts. Every effort should have been made to recruit Rudy Rucker in some capacity (his book 'Infinity and the Mind' was awesome). Would have made it not just mind-blowing but added some surreal humor (read his book!)
The animation was nice. A variety of cute styles.
Trump vs the Illuminati (2020)
Expected zany, got BORING instead
Should have been called "Trump's *Voice* vs the Illuminati." Could just as well have been "Buggs Bunny vs the Illuminati" for all the difference it would have made. The creator took a cute idea, and... basically did nothing with it for an hour and ten minutes.
It immediately starts out with some looong and boring exposition, and... never really gets off the ground from there. Most of the scenes consist of a simple back-and-forth between mostly static shots, with not much of anything happening. A series of still panels would have done the job just as well. The animation itself is a strange mixture of competent and lazy (eg. The near absence of human faces).
Thin on humor and ideas. Could possibly have made a mildly entertaining ten or fifteen minute short, but sitting thru over an hour of this stuff is just plain coma-inducing.
