Killer Whales (2024)
So Bad That It's Almost Good
This show is honestly total slop but I had to give it at least a 5/10 since I genuinely enjoyed watching it. The judges have absolutely zero respect for each other and the female judge constantly says the most obtuse things. Almost all the presenters are genuine idiots. Overall, the pure stupidity of the show makes it laugh out loud funny at certain points. Was this intended? Probably not. But it does turn what should be a truly terrible spectacle into something genuinely entertaining. That being said, Shark Tank is far better and, if you just wanna watch slop, I think there are other dumb slop shows that are more entertaining (Ex. Married at First Sight, Love is Blind, Americas Next Top Model, etc.).
Poor Things (2023)
I Saw This With My Grandma (She's 80)
I knew absolutely nothing about this movie besides that it was nominated for an Oscar and some of my friends enjoyed it. I asked my grandmother if she wanted to see the movie and she said yes, with her knowing about the same that I did about it.
My grandma is pretty cool but the scene with the man and his children at the brothel was really my breaking point.
She said it was the worst movie she had ever seen.
Aside from me wanting to die while watching it, the movie was actually pretty enjoyable when a sex scene wasn't going on. A little too slow pacing wise for me, but probably a 7/10 if I hadn't made the mistake of taking my grandma to see a movie that is literally like 50% sex scenes or sex jokes.
I just felt I had to give it a lower score since I really can't think of a worse way I could have spent my afternoon with my grandmother that I don't see often.
Vinland Saga (2019)
Truly Amazing
This is easily the best medieval/viking themed show out there (anime or not). The plot, writing, character development - everything - is near perfect. It's rare to see a show that combines insanely brutal (to the extent that it sometimes becomes funny) fight scenes with extremely emotional and well-developed external/internal dialogue scenes.
I also appreciate the at least vague historical accuracy in the show. The creators definitely take a lot of liberties, but it's overall very grounded, which brings another interesting aspect to the characters and plot. All the major characters really did exist and all the major events really did happen, which adds a cool twist I think.
Overall, both season 1 and 2 of Vinland Saga are equally phenomenal and well-worth watching. I'm not usually a fan of bloody viking/medieval shows but Vinland Saga brings a lot to the table that shows like Viking Vahalla are missing.
Shigatsu wa kimi no uso (2014)
A Must Watch
I don't know if I've ever been so emotionally invested in a show as I was with Your Lie in April. The storyline, dialogue, and character development is on another level compared to not only most animes but shows in general. The animation and overall art style is absolutely stunning. The music is probably my favorite of any show I've ever watched. I really couldn't stop thinking about this show while I was watching it. I actually was getting anxiety from the show because I was so emotionally invested in it, something that I have literally never experienced before. Overall, Your Lie in April is the best anime I've ever watched and is easily one of my favorite tv shows of all time.
