The Passion of the Christ (2004)

Simply astonishing

I have no idea what a non-Christian would think of this but it has been one of the most moving and prayerful experiences I have had. Gibson's depiction of the Passion helped me to see Christ in a whole new way. The performances were great - I was particularly impressed with Pilate and Mary. I loved it - all Christians should see it. Non-Christian movie fans should see it simply to appreciate how Gibson pulls off a movie in Aramaic and Latin on such a controversial topic. Stunning.

The Triplets of Belleville (2003)

Praise God for french-speaking wierdos

Fab, wierd, crazy. I wish my grandmas had been that cool. Go watch this for lots of extremely well designed animation,a totally loopy bunch of old women and a crazy dog. I absolutely loved it. I would highly recommend it for a hour or so of relaxation.

To Kill a King (2003)

Bog standard stuff

If you like history (I do) then you'll probably enjoy this at least, but if you don't then I wouldn't be in a rush to see this. It's an atypical limited budget historical drama. With Tim Roth in "I'm playing a psychopath" role. Dougray Scott trying to be brooding and troubled, Olivia Williams being very one-dimensional and Rupert Everett being pretty good as Charles I.

It's ok, the tensions Lord and Lady Fairfax have to deal with are interesting but not realised properly. It's ok for a rainy afternoon with nothing better to do, it is entertaining but you do need to be interested in the history.

Fight Club (1999)

It will blow your mind.

Quite simply a life-changing, thought provoking movie that deserved much bigger box office. Ed Norton was his usual fantastic self and Brad Pitt was equally brilliant. The book is great, the film is better. If you like clever, dark challenging movies then you'll love this.
