O Processo dos Távoras (2001)
The most brilliant Portuguese TV series of all time!
This historical and epic TV series was a complete positive surprise! I absolutely loved it, from the first to the very last and brilliant episode. The story itself is extremely interesting, emotional and intimate at the same time. It is a MUST SEE! It follows the true story of the Távora family in 18th century Portugal, the conflicts between the king and noble families, and the growing power of Marquês the Pombal, as well as the effects of the monarchy and its absolute policy on future queen D. Maria. We also get to see the social contrast between life in court and the poor people. Brilliant sets, amazing costume design and great script! Two thumbs up!
Pedro e Inês (2005)
The most interesting Portuguese TV series of the year!
This TV series was a complete surprise! There have been a few TV series, films and books about the story and myth of Pedro and Inês, but this one stands out for all the positive reasons. The story by itself is extremely interesting, emotional and intimate. This historical epic series follows the passion between Pedro (Pedro Laginha) and Inês (the incredible actress Ana Moreira). He is the son of the Potuguese king. She is one of the servants of Pedro's wife Constança. The kingdom of Portugal would never be the same after these two have fallen in love. It has a beautiful and compelling script, the costume design is superb, accurate and detailed, the photography is mind-blowing! If you love historical epics, love stories, tragedy, life in court and drama, you MUST see this series. The best of the year!
