Napoleon (2023)
Without high expectations...
"A great director, great performances, great costumes, great locations... But unfortunately, I can't say it's great for the entire film. It's not bad at all, but it's not likely for a production of this caliber to be inherently bad. Different expectations can arise only when approached with much greater anticipation. The main problem in all biographical examples is that there isn't much to do for something already known by the majority to shine even more. Therefore, the main issue turns into the effort to find differences in storytelling, which, in our case, doesn't yield results. Perhaps there could have been a different approach. Other than that, there is no detachment from the film, and the most important part of this, of course, comes from Joaquin. His acting and the visual spectacle make for an enjoyable time until the end of the film."
Catch Me If You Can (2002)
Admiring...
Every time I board a plane, this film comes to my mind. It happened again, and I watched it again. The downside of watching such legendary films and magnificent performances is that we see fewer stories and actor performances of this quality over time. Tom Hanks is magnificent, Leo is great, and all the other actors present a recital. The fact that a true story can be so incredible is a whole other matter. Admiring a character I admired as a child 20 years later is, I guess, the emotional aspect of the matter... Probably I'm goint watch again 15 years later and Im going feel same like today...
Maske: Nezaketle Tebessüm (2023)
Great.
It's great to see this kind of work in Turkish cinema. But this film isn't tied to any specific country. Its humor is universal without any confusing local references. I'm surprised I didn't notice this movie in theaters. It was hard to find, and now I'll need to make an effort to watch it again. In a comedy-heavy film like this, I've never felt so emotional before. The poetic parts are really moving. Honestly, I didn't fully understand the poetic sections. The costumes at the masked ball scene, I can't find the right words. All the costumes in the movie are amazing, but that particular scene is incredibly well done. And when it comes to the general subject, only a few legendary films have been able to give me the shocks that this series provided. In this aspect, it had a good progression and a successful ending.
Bursa Bülbülü (2023)
Not Enough...
There are inspirations from many different films and series, but it's a production well below the expected quality. When it's Ata Demirer, a certain amount of laughter and surprising emotional moments are guaranteed, but in this story, I didn't experience funny moments, and the emotional moments also seemed a bit lacking. Probably because we're accustomed to his higher performances, it was an extremely disappointing experience for me. However, we love him, and I'm sure much better ones will come because, frankly, this film feels like it was made on order and just for the sake of it. Even the music quality is below Ata Demirer's standard. He can and he will do better...
Ersan Kuneri (2022)
Just Quality...
"As the years pass, it's a series whose value will be increasingly appreciated. Indeed, that's how it is for me. I watched a movie released this year and somehow this series came to my mind. Cem Yilmaz's magnificent performance is a whole other subject, but the main issue is that, unlike other comedians compared to him, he presents an outstanding production. He doesn't think, 'They'll watch me anyway,' and pays attention to everything, from costumes to set design and actors, selecting the best. I understand other criticisms, such as its excessive profanity, etc. I don't think it's like that because the subject matter necessitates it. After presenting this level of quality, he can swear as much as he wants. After all, we're not watching a children's film. I'm eagerly awaiting its new season."
A Beautiful Mind (2001)
Realy Beautiful...
It might be perplexing for many, but in reality, it possesses a compelling narrative. The director's overall approach is like this, and the audience consistently craves this style. The production pays exceptional attention to detail, from costumes to settings. As for the performances, there's truly nothing to criticize-they're all exceptional. I'd rate it a 9, deducting just 1 point for a few minor issues. Last 20 years maybe I watched 5 times and still I can watch again. I can watch it over and over again. Now, as these kinds of movies are decreasing by the day, it will be a refuge for me at all times.
