What's with the stuff about inaccuracy in the film? This is a good movie!
14 February 2009
Seriously! The people who call this movie inaccurate aren't watching it carefully. The thing is Iwo Jima is a Japanese island with no natives or any others there so if Clinton Eastwood showed scenes of Japanese torturing or raping innocents then that would be historically inaccurate. Since there aren't any natives to beat or rape there. Also if you think this movie doesn't show the cruelty and strictness of the Japanese during the war. The punishments the soldiers received for showing unpatriotic feelings toward the war or even disobeying orders is enough to prove cruelty especially with that one officer ordering the dog to be killed. Anyway this movie has to be once of the greatest war movies I've ever seen in my life. It's rare for film makers to make a movie showing the opposite side of the war. The sad storyline and dialogue is enough to make you cry. The acting is strong in the movie although I thought the actor who played Saigo's friend was a bit too Western than WWII. Clinton Eastwood does it again and I like the directing too. This is a lot better than "Flags for Our Fathers." Which I honestly thought with no harsh feelings to Mr. Eastwood was a bit lousy and kind of stupid. 10 stars all the way with Letters from Iwo Jima.

Election (2005)
6/10
Good Director's and Actors. Wrong Script.
10 February 2009
This film has some great directing with its suspense theme and its few dramatic moments and also some great first class acting. Johnny To is a great and wonderful director. The cast was pretty neat too. But I found that there were major problems with the script. First of all the story doesn't seem to develop that much and isn't that interesting at all. The beginning was good and simple with them talking about the election and stuff. Then while it progressed all I saw was some people talking about how the election was going and stuff. There was no drama at all except for some scenes where they kidnapped a few members of the enemy elective party for ransom and also don't forget the shock that happened in the end which I won't reveal for spoiler reasons. The only that kept me moving in the film was some of the interesting facts they gave us about Triad street life in the movie. It's a movie I would watch once and never watch it again because it deserves some awards and recognitions for great acting and directing but should be laughed at for terrible story line.

The Godfather (1972)
9/10
Flawless movie with maybe some Mafia Inacurracy but overall a master.
10 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
The Godfather has to be one of the most masterful and perfect films of all time. Francis Ford Coppola does a great job in directing by creating great suspense and drama in the film as well as the dark theme meant in the book. Mario Puzo did a wonderful job in turning his best-selling book into a movie script with a little help from Coppola. This film also introduces some of the greatest actors in the crime genre which includes great performances by Al Pacino and Marlon Brando. The beginning of the film is the only part that I hated because it was so long and boring too but I guess there was probably no other way to begin the movie I guess. I like how they show a lot of the Italian and mafia culture in the film but they do tend to mistake a lot of mob culture. First of I looked at the film and the guys don't ever talk like mob guys. In the real mafia everyone curse including the higher ranking and elder bosses. I surprised by the lack of profanity in the movie and I think the only I time I ever heard a curse word is when Sonny said the "N" word at the dinner table which I have no clue why he said it because it was so random. Also they get rid of a lot of power away from the Captains of the capo-regimes. I never heard much talk of the business from Tessio or Clemenza which is really is out of the mob ranking style. Also despite this being a great mafia movie they don't make the mobsters cruel enough. I mean come on we all know that these guys are monsters and murderers make them look that rather than some fat guys who are rich and love eating cake. Well one thing they did get right was the asking favors thing with the Don and screw him for not getting into drugs. Overall I'll recommend this movie to anyone but please don't judge by the boring beginning please see the whole movie before you judge it.
