Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight (2008)
It's actually an awesome show!
Note to anybody who has read the bad reviews given to the series prior to it's release on TV: disregard those. They haven't seen the true beauty that is Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight.
As anyone who's been taking a look in to Japanese tokusatsu in the last ten years will know, Kamen Rider is not a new series. The show has been around for about 20 years now, and is finally getting the American treatment. This isn't even the first attempt at an English Kamen Rider either. That award goes to the horrid Masked Rider from Saban in the 90's.
This version is very well done, but with many differences from its Power Rangers counterpart. The acting is better, the plot is deeper and more intricate, the tone is more adult and darker, and the laughs aren't forced onto the viewer.
I'm not going to say too much here, so watch Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight for yourself.
One Piece: Episode of Alabaster - Sabaku no Ojou to Kaizoku Tachi (2007)
Sweet movie, man!
Okay, I, just yesterday, went to my local Wal-Mart to buy One Piece The Movie: The Desert Princess and The Pirates Adventures in Alabasta. Being the One Piece buff I am, it's only natural that I anticipate. I mean, this is the new One Piece movie, right. I got home right after buying it, popped it into my DVD player, and sat down on my couch to watch.
Shortly after pressing play, my ears were greeted by a billowing wisp of air from my television speakers, as well as a beautiful orchestral blare. The movie kept going on like this and it was a truly beautiful thing to see and hear.
The animation has greatly improved from the TV anime. Though it's not on the same level as Miyazaki's critically acclaimed Spirited Away, it doesn't mean it can't startle you now and then.
The voice-overs are expertly done, and will blow you away once you hear them. I especially loved Pell's voice, as it suited the character so perfectly, I nearly jumped up from the couch and shouted, "Yes! Do it again!" The score has been crafted by careful hands here, and expertly comments the mood of each individual scene.
This movie is entertaining and I recommend it to anybody who is a One Piece fan or likes a good action film.
10/10 (Highly Recommended)
Transformers: Animated (2007)
The Best TransFormers Cartoon in a Long While!
TransFormers has been going a little rocky lately. Both Energon and Cybertron haven't received very good repeption from critics, and the new TransFormers movie from DreamWorks received mixed reactions, especially from Roger Ebert. It looked like, for a moment, that TransFormers was going to flatline. *beeeeeeppp* CLEAR! TransFormers: Animated serves as a defribrillator for the series, as well as showing that an old TV show can still pull it off. Though the anmation takes a little getting used to, the semi-anime approach is surprisingly refreshing. Thanks to Studio 1c for that! The new script is also very good, and will remind you of the old series once you hear it, with references to the Allspark of Cybertron being abundant.
Though I've said all of that, the series isn't without flaws. The script can get a little stretched out like someone's using it as Silly Putty. And the animation can get a little choppy and framed, but I guess they did that to reflect the old animation feel of the G1 cartoon.
Regardless, this is one hell of a series. Long Live Cybertron! 9/10
Ben 10: Race Against Time (2007)
Grrr...
Okay, I'm a little ticked off right now, so i'm going to use some objectionable language in this review.
Ahem... all of the guys above me who gave Race Against Time a rating lower than a 7 are dumbasses. This was a great move, and for many reasons.
The acting was great. Especially Eon, who was just a natural character to the movie. The action sequences were top-notch and well choreographed, especially for a mere 5-million-dollar budget. Only bad acting was on Haley Ramm's part, but thank God Alex Winters made Gwen a minor character here.
This movie also ties into the show well, too. It has a similar explanation of the Omnitrix, the Omnitrix itself looks exactly like in the show, and the Rustbucket looked perfect, despite Eon destroying it.
I can go on and on about this, but I'll stop here. RAT is a good movie. Awesome at that.
10/10
One Piece: Wan pîsu (1999)
One Piece of greatness!
One Piece is one of the best animes, if not the best, I've ever seen. It's filled with spirit, charm, wit, and some random comedic interjections from the perverted cook, Sanji.
One Piece is a story that follows the dreams of a young 17-year-old pirate wannabe by the name of Monkey D. Luffy. He was inspired by his childhood friend, a pirate named "Red-Haired Shanks", who is a great character.
Joining Luffy is Zoro (or Zolo in the English dubs), a man destined to become the world's greatest swordsman, Nami, the navigator who wants to make a map of the world, Usopp, the dim-witted marksman, Tony Tony Chopper, the doctor, and Nico Robin, who recently joined as the crew's archaeologist.
Overall, One Piece is a great show that I strongly recommend to any anime lover. Set sail for One Piece!
Out of Jimmy's Head (2007)
The guy above me...
...is an insane psychopathic freak. Ou of Jimmy's head is at least 2,078,679 times better than the pile of horse crap that was Re-Animated.
The plot is no longer trying to be epic, and the movie's plot is more of a side note than anything else.
The acting is much better than Re-Animated and Jimmy doesn't get as flustered as he used to whenever he's around Robin.
Some of the actors have changed, and that's for the best, I think. Besides, I think that Robin and Craig are better as African-Americans.
And speaking of Craig, he's improved a lot too, which is also better. Hey, at least he isn't too annoying this time!
Overall, watch OOJH. You'll love it.
