Adina's Deck (2007)
great educational film for teens and pre-teens
The subject of the film, Adina's Deck, cyberbullying, is an all-too-common and scary phenomenon that many children are forced to deal with on a daily basis in today's world. Studies have shown that cyberbullying is such a serious problem that it can cause depression, anxiety, and even suicide in some cases. For those who may not be familiar with the term, according to Wikipedia,"cyberbullying is the term used to refer to bullying and harassment by use of electronic devices through means of e-mail, instant messaging, text messaging, blogs, mobile phones, pagers and websites."
Adina's Deck has taken this provocative subject and turned it into an exciting mystery about four tech-savvy friends that have either been cyberbullied or have been cyberbullies themselves. When one of them, Syke, begins receiving threatening messages on a regular basis, her three best friends fear for her and all become "detectives" in trying to discover the identify of the perpetrator. The film teaches an extremely important lesson while at the same time keeping the viewer on the edge of his/her seat. I would highly recommend it not only for teens and pre-teens, but for the entire family.
