You Are Not My Mother (2021)
I loved it, except...
...for the whole "school bully" plotline. Are they not able to make horror movies anymore without that sort of subplot? Just for once, I want to see the main character being a perfectly normal, reasonably happy person that has nothing severe going on in there life as the (insert plot here) starts hitting the fan.
With that said, I agree with the positive reviews, and I didn't even find it to be that slow-moving. Pace and development of the story was fine, in my eyes.
What stood out is that they really put effort into the shots, there were some really nice ones in there (for example right at the end, where "Mam" breaks into an inaudible scream just as the fireworks in the sky behind her go off). I was really happy with the visuals overall.
Memento Mori (2018)
Surprisingly good watch with a big BUT at the end.
I found this surprisingly enjoyable, up until around 20-25 minutes till the end, which is when they started to finally reveal the pieces of information that the movie had been building towards. However, all of it just ended in a rather confusing heap of twists and turns, to the point where I felt the movie had been considerably better "as a whole" if it had just ended said 20 minutes sooner.
As it stands though, I can't help but side with one of the characters' confused outcry of "What's going on?" that mirrored my feelings at that moment perfectly, lol. As the end credits ran down, I still wasn't entirely sure about what the final reveal had truly been.
One too many "surprising" character twists at the end, which they simply should have left out. The story was already perfectly fine as it was, before then.
All in all, not a bad movie though, and as I said, I personally enjoyed it. I would definitely watch it again, and that is saying something.
