Dangerous Waters (2023)
Entertaining
Quite entertaining with a good plot and a bit suspenseful. Too much smoking glamorized. Pleased that there were no over the top antics that are highly improbable. The scene was set for Rose's ability to shoot and fight, as these were casually mentioned earlier on. Killing the mother was too much heavy pathos; all films just don't let us escape melancholy, we must all feel sadness, reflective of real life, when films should offer a relaxing escape. Rose too was too depressed looking, although she had strength of character. Can't recall seeing any 'in memory of' or tribute to Ray Liotta at the end or beginning. If it wasn't, it should have been, even though he had a small part but was an impressive actor, RIP.
A Haunting in Venice (2023)
Painful to Watch!
This was a disappointment as first the characters were not believable and Kenneth Branagh did not make a convincing Hercule Poirot, even the moustache was awful!
The film relied more on dingy rooms, subdued lighting and terrible sound effects, rather than on 'substance' of plot, effective clues and dialogue.
Then, we are expected to believe, that the 'child' Leopold has such skillful intellect and capacity, to be able to engage in high level deceptive blackmail, to extort enormous sums of money without no one knowing.
It was painful to endure! I hope that David Suchet did not watch it as he is the epitome of Agatha Christie's Poirot and undoubtedly the best!
Wrath of Man (2021)
Lacked Substance
I was drawn to this film as Jason Statham was the main character, whose no nonsense and direct approach to challenging events, usually solves moral dilemmas, with 'good triumphing over evil,' added with humour. However, his role in this film unfortunately was disappointing, with the absence of believable characters, thought-provoking story lines and dialogues., coupled with an abundance of unnecessary violence. Watching a film, should enable a 'respite from the reality' of the crassness of current life; not reinforcement, of more negativity, whereby nothing good resulted from this weak story line.
