Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
Just ugh
Edit the movie down, Scorsesi. Put the narrative in the law's hand so the mystery can stay a mystery. Bringing in the law enforcement in more than an hour and a half into the picture. Making the movie more about Native American rituals than their point of view seems like a monumental failure. Sure the acting was first rate, cinematography was wonderful but I didn't need an older white man's perspective on the story that made DiCapprio the center of the story. It might be time for Marty to retire. This is all I have to say but I am forced to write more so I can remind myself, in a year, why I thought this movie sucked.
The Swan (2023)
Creepy story but fantastic acting
Rupert Friend does a fantastic job with voices and a deadpan expression. The staging is minimal and so are the actors on set. I appreciated the younger actor and the stage crew's contribution to the story.
Dahl's writing is so faithfully respected. One cannot thank Wes Anderson more for bringing Dahl's words to life. It seems that writers of the time had a sense of the macabre of society. One hopes bullies like those portrayed are fictional in this day and age.
I would love to see the Land Lady produced. I've read it with an eighth-grade class.
The Henry Sugar series of fils are a great addition to be added to streaming.
Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. (2023)
I read this at 10 years old and saw it at 53
This movie was beautiful. Judy Blume waited for the right person to take on her universe. Kelly Fermon Craig brought a simple touch to Blume's story, making it a true gem to watch.
I had read this book as a young girl and had my daughters read it while growing up. It has given girls a door into their own adolescence for more than 50 years.
I cringed just as I did 45 years ago at the awkward moments and feeling as an outsider as Margret did, but now I also cringed at the mother's misteps. I also known how trying to fit in to being a stay at home mom can be.
Thank goodness the film stuck to the time period. Seeing the electric skillet and blue Corningware made my day.
Thank you for a comfort food kind of movie.
