Medium: Four Dreams: Part 2 (2006)
Eh
Theses Four Dreams episodes are ok. Bridget and Alison sharing the dreams with relation to the mother/child experiences fit. But the Clay character, he did ot fit at all. He stumbled onto her doorstep with such a weak storyline and disconnect, he himself changed the power of these episodes for the worse.
Frozen (2010)
You'll watch once, then never again
The premise of this was a decent one (some logistics aside). Three "buddies" out for a day scamming discount lift deals with the operator. The movie relies mostly on the tension created by circumstance and not much on a score, which I appreciated. The movie fell flat in a few places for me, though. First off, and probably my biggest gripe, was the lack of a genuine relationship feel between any of them. It's like they showed up to set and the director said "she's your gf, he's your best buddy and go". I didn't realize the two were supposed to be dating until an awkward conversation on the lift. That being said, individually the characters warm to you, but then the eye roll moments begin. Making a jump just after an ice storm and seeing your snowboard cut through the ground the way it did, the wolves coming up with no provocation as Joe traverses the cable (after waking from the 2nd night of a hypothermic sleep and not eating), Parker using her right hand against the tree for support as she found freedom, etc. And had it ended with the operator restarting the lift to find the two frozen and dead, it would have struck a bit better. All said, it's not terrible. If you're looking for an uncomfortable but tense movie to watch through your fingers, this isn't your worst choice.
Schitt$ Creek: Happy Ending (2020)
Such a beautiful send-off
This felt as a part two of a goodbye finale with the previous episode. The show exited with a subtle grace, holding true to the admiration we have grown for this family.
Medium: Native Tongue (2010)
Broken Dubois Heart
This is the start of the downfall that is the end of this series. While this episode is unique and interesting in the delivery (understanding only a different language), the heart of the show, the family, is depicted in a way that doesn't reflect every other episode. The insinuation of thoughts of an affair, the heavy, unloving words spoken by Joe, the heartless attitude of the girls at the breakfast table. None of it fits with the family invited into our homes each episode. Joe's frustration is understandable, but after 7.5 seasons, this is not the way to have it depicted. Wish they hadn't waited until the end of the episode to correct it.
As much as I disliked the final episode, this is my least favorite of them all.
Hamilton (2020)
If history class was taught like this, I may have learned more
Never would I have ever thought that I would be watching a play about one of the founding fathers on repeat. I am so grateful this made it to the small screen for those of us who weren't able to catch the live show. Not only is just about every word sung, and beautifully at that, but the songs are done in styles to have you hanging on every word. It's the perfect amount of heavy and emotional with comedic lines and acts (thank you King George III). And while I am aware that the play does take some factual liberties, it had me googling to find out more about these people.
The Open House (2018)
Biggest surprise was the service they got in the mountains
This movie was the equivalent of asking a third grader what you need in a scary movie, then randomly checking off those boxes without anything to tie them together. The movie oddly builds up musically in places to nothing, has a number of throw away characters, focuses on things that go nowhere and finishes in a totally non climatic, unfullfilling way. Really not worth your time. Keep scrolling and watch something else....anything else
Medium: Me Without You (2011)
The best part of this episode is the credits
Let me start by saying, I LOVE this show-the idea of it, the acting, the storylines, but this episode is simply absurd.
I have watched this show in its entirety numerous times now. Yes, nobody likes good-byes. Very, very few shows end a series in a way that holds true to the show before it. But this episode just sucked.
First off, I hate time-hops. Viewers grew up with this family for 6 and a half seasons. We deserved to say good-bye to the family as a whole. And where was Bridgette this whole episode? C'mon-Maria Lark was an outstanding child actor throughout the series. Secondly, you kill off, arguably the BEST tv husband in history. Mind you, the absurdity started with Native Tongue, when the show tries to insinuate that Joe was thinking of cheating...but I'm going off track here.
Basically, watch the series. Love the series. But end it at Labor Pains. Let her reuniting a family be the ending.
