Ripley (2024)

Slow burn that worth every minute!
21 April 2024
The slow burn of this show absolutely captivated me from beginning to end. Every character was beautifully executed and the camera shots were exquisite. Andrew Scott's characterisation of Ripley was fascinating; a relatively charmless character that somehow manages to worm his way into people's lives and coldly work to get what he wants. I loved how it showed how he wasn't a perfect con-artist, sometimes being incredibly sloppy but his skill is in being almost so lacking in personality that he sucks up other people's lives and emotions and makes them his own. I found myself weirdly pitying him and gunning for him at the same time, entirely absorbed in the world of the film. In short, loved it!

Bravo ,Well done

If you're hoping for a show full of laughs, you'll be disappointed. This is a very emotional and raw narrative about a complex protagonist and his stalker, Martha. Their relationship isn't a straightforward relationship, as Donny has mixed emotions towards Martha, so if you're judgemental, you also won't enjoy this show. I absolutely LOVED it. It's such a beautiful narrative because it's real, it's raw, it's full of complicated emotions and people, as is life. The acting was superb. It also touches on important and complicated topics, like sexuality, family, abuse, mental health, among many others. The ending was perfect and beautiful and left me heartbroken. This is a limited series I'll be thinking about for a long time. Even though it's dark and some parts are hard to watch because they're traumatizing, I would absolutely rewatch it because it's a masterpiece. Well done and so brave!

Please open ur mind and don't ruin this masterpiece on us!

The people review bombing this show are stupid. They can't accept that there are différenciés in an adaptation. It's brilliantly made, great directing, acting, script, everything is great. Very well done, really powerful and creative. Made smart choices when adapting a challenging book but as fan of the books for years I loved it . Dont expect a carbon copy of the book but in spirit I think they have spot on. I think everyone gives an excellent performance all around Go watch it and don't listen to these haters. It's honestly better than I expected. Obv it's not a one to one adoption from the book, but it's still rly good.

One of the biggest W for Netflix
12 March 2024
Honestly started this series because I was bored and couldn't find anything to watch, but boy am I glad I stumbled upon this masterpiece. I liked the movie a lot! But the series feels a bit more bombastic; it's funny, tense, & dark. You must pay attention lest the plot - with many moving parts - will escape you! The dialogue really has that irreverent, guy ritchie pithy punch to it, but all its players nailed it. Kaya & daniel are amazing, but theo james grounds it & flexes his charisma & acting chops here. I found myself hooked by the first episode and couldn't stop watching it. I'm dying for a second season.

Super underrated!!!

As someone who grew up with ATLA, being in the prime demographic as it originally aired, it has always been one of my favorite pieces of media. The heart, philosophy, and humor are simply too special to ever match, as evidenced by the sequel series. But I did not go into this LA iteration with the ridiculous expectation of seeing a shot for shot remake of the original. Rather, this series finally delivered on what I have dreamed of for almost 20 years, a faithful, more mature, and ultimately fun adaptation for a beloved fantasy series delivered by a cast and crew that clearly hold as much respect and love for the series as the fans.

Just wow!

I AM A MESS.

What a beautiful and heart-wrenching story. I haven't been this emotionally gripped by something like this in a long time. I'm usually quite the tear-jerker. But this... my heart is in pieces.

I thought it'd be another typical romance, conventional for the likes of a genre. But no. I was moved by her, by him, by them. All the ranges of human emotions were treated and truly lived. The actors were perfect, the chemistry incredible, the music absolutely on point, the writing *chef's kiss*.

This 14-episode format is perfect to convey all there was to convey, not too long not too short, not too fast not too slow.

Just watch it and enjoy.

Top Notch Tv!
15 January 2024
Everyone panning this expect this to be a sapranos mafia knockoff. It ain't. This has distinct millenial Chinese American Taiwanese sensibilities that totally make sense; if you know you know. If you don't it seems childish maybe even churlish or corny. It doesn't fall into standard western stereotypes of triad/mafia to date. Without Bruce vs Charles living seperate lives growing up representing what could be vs what is and Michelle Yeohs matriarch masterpiece tying it all, it would hardly be original, just another goodfella wannabe. Her mastery of various Chinese dialects and inflections whiff of Malaysian accent notwithstanding made it heartfelt and authentic altogether. It is great story made from whole cloth that juxtaposed many opposites and grays that is life.

Mind Blowing New show!
14 January 2024
Beautiful and very moving. Award winning performances from the lead actors. Gritty and realistic portrayal of life growing up around dysfunction, poverty and addiction. Could not stop watching. The only issue I had was the technology, some which would not have been around in the 80s like Eli's watch and the lab was too modern in some ways , But it's not big problem , it doesn't effect on the show, But wow indeed, extraordinarily beautiful, Absolutely fantastic! Actors and stories were great. It had characters you were invested in. Well done to all involved! Especially Simon Baker's performance. So much bathos and pathos rolled into one with humor. Top notch.

Just WOW
26 December 2023
I'm a diehard Yu Yu Hakusho fan, and here's why everything is great: - The nostalgia in this absolutely cooks. The 1st episode legit made me cry. Live action wake scene + some of the best characters in anime = pain. - Everyone is talking about it. Togashi the creator who's married to Sailor Moon, has been living with chronic health issues. He's creating some of the best work in all of manga history through deep ethical issues to power systems that have been adapted into modern anime such as JJK. Togashi is a man that deserves this success. - So many companies have announced new Yu Yu Hakusho merchandise, a void that has existed for years and monopolized by 3rd party has finally been filled for the first time in decades. - The acting is good. - The show's creative decisions leaves room for a new take on the dark tournament which can now be done with a much bigger budget. - My younger siblings and the next generation has some modern exposure to the greatest characters of all time.

I'm so happy for the future of this brand.

This most be renewed or I will be mad :(!!

Holly Molly What Did I see !

This is the best I've watched in the last 5 years, there is a ton of balance in the plot, ZERO inconsistencies. It's really hard not to fall in love with the relationship between Kento and Ana, for they are vulnerable, yet loyal to one another in the highest possible way. The things that happen to them are quite heartbreaking, but in contrast to that the way they react and how cute they are will get to your heart and reaffirm or make you believe in true friendship. The art is also great. The actions scenes are exciting, I would easily say that this is one of those anime-masterpieces out there. I'll give it a 10 out of 10. WATCH IT if you haven't!!!

Don't compare
30 November 2023
Amazing series. One of my best so far. Definitely one of the best serie in Netflix. In every episode I was just waiting to watch what happens next.

You lose your mind while you get to the next one episode. It's so chaotic and this is what makes it special. I'm glad that there is no other season like "1988" because I would be afraid that they are gonna cancel it too since the audience of this kind of series is not that big. I would definitely recommend it, just be aware it's not a relaxing serie, you need to be there every minute. The cast amazing and of course Graham on his best as always. 10/10.

Freaking Awesome!
29 November 2023
Absolutely beautiful art, extremely compelling story. Definitely influenced by older samurai films and has touches of Kill Bill. Probably the best thing I have watched on Netflix in a long time, possibly the best Netflix original in my opinion , In my top 5 anime of all time... Visually gorgeous with a superb story, Mizu danced on the line of 'hero' and 'villain' in her lust for revenge. Superb story arcs for 5-6 characters and emotionally quenching when revisiting her history. 'The Ronin and the bride' is incredible in depiciting 3 x stories in 1 episode. Pure cinema!

Totally recommend and we need s02.

Just Wow !
29 November 2023
One of the best ensemble casts in movie history reunite to give us a brand new take on what was already near perfect source material. And they do it in style. Michael Cera's Scott Pilgrim character, whilst being a delight when on screen, takes a back seat for a lot of the season allowing the always brilliant Mary Elizabeth Winstead to do a chunk of the heavy lifting, driving the narrative. The character of Ramona Flowers is one of my all time favourites, and Mary Elizabeth has now managed to bring her to life, not once but twice, taking her straight from the pages of the book, and making the role her own. Even when you can only hear her voice, her work is so impressively emotive and showcases her immense talent and versatility. A one of a kind performer and generational star. Culkin shines again as the hilarious Wallace, as does Evans as Lucas Lee. Brie Larson, even with her limited screen time manages to steal a few scenes, showcasing her comedic timing again, just another string to her wildly impressive bow. I just wish we could have gotten some more singing from her! Not a bad performance in sight from the rest of the cast either. The writing as ever is brilliant, and Wright in his production role proves once again he just gets the source material. Overall an incredible show. If I could give it more stars I would. 5 could never be enough.

Wholesome adaptation
29 November 2023
While I generally agree with critics' consensus on most films, I'm go smacked at how they got so terribly wrong on this one. All The Light We Cannot See played beautifully into the novel's core meaning: keeping one's humanist values even in the most depraved of corcumstances. If the critics thought the film tropey or saccharine, to which I personally strongly disagree, it only speake to which side of this theme their hearts lie. I'm gobsmacked at how completely they missed the point - to appreciate the beauty and love of humanity, you've got to let go of apathy, trust your heart, and allow yourself to feel. As a lover of film in general and of the novel on which this one was based, I have nothing bot the highest of accolades for the entire production cast and crew for their beautiful performances, striking cinematography, and an inspired adapted screenplay. Bravo, and ignore the critics, as their darkness is no match for even one moment of your light.

Outstanding!!
19 October 2023
One part Poe, one part Succession, one part Final Destination, one part Marxist critique of Capitalism. I'll compare it to the rest of Flanagan's work because it's the only thing worth comparing it to. While no single part of this tops the high of Hill House (the Bent Neck Lady story is a masterpiece of an American ghost story), as a whole this is his best work hands down. It's not always the most moving or even the most unpredictable, but even when it's not gripping, the characters are interesting enough for you to despise them with earnest. And when it does move you (which it does again many more times than Flanagan's other shows), you really will be moved. It may not always be the scariest, but the story at the core is one that will linger. Poe is required reading to fully appreciate it though. Before each episode, i read the short story it was named after. Occasionally i had to look up the names referenced (Tamerlane in particular) to really understand what was going on. They're short reads and worth the effort. Flanagan was a genius to be able to not only tie together so well the different narratives of Poe's poems and short stories, but - in their juxtaposition to both each other and the modern world - give them depth that feels like it belonged to both Poe's and our own ages. Both eternal and nevermore.

One Piece (2023– )

Thank You Netflix !
2 September 2023
This show is incredibly well done. It is rare to see an adaptation that manages to do it's own thing while never losing the original spirit of the material; this show manages to capture the best of both worlds. While some things are different, the writers managed to condense and move things around from the original source material without actual changing very much. This change sets up so much world building and characterization while setting a good, engaging pace for the live action series. It is also very exciting as a One Piece fan to pick up the hints and Easter eggs that I wasn't anticipating on being included . In fact, because some things are different, it makes for a very exciting rewatch. The casting is perfect. Nami, Zoro, and Sanji have stand out performances but the energy of the entire crew is electric. The sets are stunning, it made me breathless at times. But the fight scenes just stood out above the rest. Honestly, I love fight scenes but I'm not a huge fan of fight scenes in anime. I am a fan of One Piece for the awesome story, adventure, and crew. But these fight scenes were so well done that I've been finding myself wanting to go back and rewatch them. Watching Zoro and Sanji fight has been something else. I was stunned the first time Zoro fought in the show, I wasn't not expecting the action in this show to be so good. This blew my expectations out of the water. This show has things for old fans and potential new fans alike. It's fast paced, easy to digest, and very faithful to the spirit of the show. If you've been wanting to get someone to try One Piece, this is a very mass market friendly way to dip their toes in. I'd recommend this show to just about anyone.

Wonderful show!
25 June 2023
Amazing show. I loved the main leads especially Hong Woo jin played by Lee Sang Yi. Nice character, loyal and funny... Gun Woo played by Woo Do Hwan is introduced as a nice kid protectinf his mother and with a good heart but i feel like he hides a lot of hatered in there especially after he kept beating up unconscious kang In beom. The villains were portrayed veeery well. Everybody delivered except for Sae ron ... i feel like she could have played the role a bit better, she could have expressed her anger a bit better... However the survival of Mr Choi was bit unrealistic, he was stabbed several time and beaten up really well and thrown out of the window..... and still survived with only a forever broken leg... how come ? A part from that i like how the boys stuck to their principles being boxers and used no weapons... the fight scenes were GREAT especially those with Mr Lee and Mr Hwang ...... i really stood up in front the tv to focus. Overall great drama. Also i salute Netflix that , miraculously, didnt include any sex scene or LGBTQ characters... hahaha .it s very rare.

Great And Unique Ride
29 May 2023
Incredible series, a great example of the type of plot that the Japanese do best. Initially a suffering character who became irritating, inconsequential, impulsive, rude and from his involvement in the sport and with the sumo tradition, he manages to externalize his great energy, determination and resilience. As it was said "He's starting to fall in love with sumo" The series shows us that sumo in its grandiosity is one of the most brutal and hostile sports, but at the same time it is very beautiful and exciting, the athlete really dedicates his whole life to climbing each step in search of a high position in the sumo hierarchy and the price paid can often be too expensive for the vast majority.

Excellent series, I highly recommend it and I'm looking forward to the next season, may it come soon!!

WELL DONE INDEED
23 April 2023
West Wing" meets "Madame Secretary"'meets "House of Cards"! Excellent writing, acting, directing... Entertaining and captivating at the same time... Smart, fast-paced multi perspective show with strong three dimensional characters. Surprisingly engaging and demands your full attention to keep up with the nuanced plot turns, character evolution and witty dialogue. By the way, there are a few negative reviews complaining that The Diplomat is a failed version of Homeland because the creator of this show was a producer on the other. By that logic, Rod Serling's Requiem for a Heavyweight failed as drama because it didn't have enough paranormal twists.

Overall, well done Netflix 👏🏼

Worth your time
10 April 2023
I found it difficult to get into initially, but by the series climax I was sad there wasn't another episode or two to go. Ali Wong and Steven Yuen are brilliant. Sometimes the humour doesn't quite hit the mark, but David Choe hits it everytime. The final episode is *awesome* and it felt like the cast and the writing really found it's stride, getting the humour and the characters brilliantly. I tuned in wanting jokes and silliness, which there could have been more of, I left having enjoyed quite a deep comment on a lot of things I'm too emotionally stunted to express properly. Well worth watching.

Okay, to everyone that stopped after episode 1: This show is REALLY good. For me i finished in one sitting. If you're a fan of Jack Ryan , The Night Manager , 24 and the rest , you will surely like this series. It gets better and better. Netflix totally surprised me with this one. Great actors , great plot (two interesting story arcs), surprisingly well-written characters (even the "bad guys"). The pilot episode felt a bit clunky at times , but as I mentioned earlier , this show only gets better .

And not to forget ,i really loved the naming of every single episodes which are based on the first ten minutes of every episodes.. Incredible idea.

Can't wait for Season 2.

Brilliant show !!
24 November 2022
Finally something decent to watch. I had hoped this show would be worth watching and I was pleasantly surprised. Not only is it worth watching, it's actually good.

The acting is solid. Jenna Ortega is excellent as Wednesday and the rest of the cast, with only a couple of exceptions, are good too. The writing is well above average compared to almost every show and movie from the past decade. There's actual character development. And of course the directing is great. Even the woke elements are speckled in naturally instead of being shoved down your throat. Also, it's an actual mystery story instead of a story filled will mystery boxes. I didn't know there were any decent writers left in the entertainment industry.

I hope the show will got what it deserve.

A masterpiece from Netflix
17 November 2022
You need to watch the entirety of the show in order to really get into it - yes, the first two episodes do start off slow and somewhat dull, but it was cleverly done so in order to build up tension and momentum. By the time episode 5 is reached, you will most certainly yearn to continue watching this Dark-The Matrix-hybrid that was quite well-executed. Is there room for improvement? Most certainly, but this can be addressed in a subsequent season Listen to me on this don't let the bad reviews effect you on watching the show It's definitely a must watch It's curtain best tv show this year GOOD job Netflix.
