Let It Snow (2020)
1/10
The Georgian mountains are gorgeous, though
13 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It starts out so well: a couple wants to go snowboarding on a dangerous slope, he is experienced, she is a developing talent. They arrive at a 'Shining' hotel with a creepy receptionist, get told not to go there and decide to go anyway.

The stage is set, the horror-enthousiasts settle in their seats, bring it on.

And there it starts to crumble with all kinds of major and minor inconsistencies.

On a dangerous, unknown slope, you stay together, especially when one of you is inexperienced. The guy swishes out of sight when she wants to take pictures.

The girl first gets hit by an avalanche and later tumbles down a long rocky slope without breaking any bones, or even getting so much as a scratch or bruise.

When she tries to get to safety she keeps staggering up the mountain, in stead of trying to get to the valley.

Getting stranded in snow without a hat or gloves slows you down considerably. Getting soaked in ice water brings on hypothermia within minutes. She keeps on going for days without much food or water.

She sleeps on a vast plain, exposed to the elements, while there is a forest and a rock face nearby that would have provided some shelter.

The policeman has POLICE on his uniform, in stead of the word 'police' in Georgian or even Russian.

The killer stabs listlessly with a sharp stick at the snow with the girl underneath, and stops when they hear her scream when she is cut.

Just to name a few.

And the end is simply too asinine for words.

The one star is for the breathtaking mountain views only.

Death on the Tyne (2018 TV Movie)

Corpse Comedy
15 September 2023
If you like comedies and murder mysteries, this trilogy is definitely a combination worth watching. It contains all: hilarious over-the-top situations, misunderstood clues, silly characters, love triangles, several obvious suspects, and a surprise killer.

OK, the low budget is showing, and the number of passengers and crew was not convincing, but hey, they would have been in the way, anyway. The story did not really need them. If anything, the main stories were entertaining enough without too many distractions going on in the background.

Only pity that the life boat potential remained underutilised.
