Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
Just enjoy it
If you can forget who the director is, or don't care like I do, and you aren't lookng for some deep Star Wars tie in, you will probably enjoy this. Is it a 10? No. Does it have lots of open plot lines? Yes. By itself, the movie would be frustrating. With the promise of more (and soon), it does a great job of setting the stage for additional instillations. I don't need all of the answers now, I like to be left wondering. Does it transport you to another, believable, universe and tell an immersive story? Yes, yes it does. I've watched far better rated movies and been much more disappointed. Set your expectations aside, strap on your seat belt and grab your popcorn and go for a ride.
The Family Plan (2023)
Watch it
(Mostly) family friendly and predictable movie, but nice to have an option to put on and watch with the family and enjoy. You don't have to be a plot savant to figure out what is going on and how it will end, but there are enough comedic moments and well cut scenes to keep you engaged if you are just watching to enjoy some family time. As I read another reviewer state, it's a great watch it and forget it type of move. Entertainment for the sake of entertainment! Having said that, there is the reminder of the importance of family and the struggles of raising teenagers. They hit a few of these points spot on. Make more of these types of movies so I can enjoy them with the family please.
They Shall Not Grow Old (2018)
Fantastic
Great film that really helps you see from the soldier's perspective. Worth a watch for anyone interested in history and especially world war history. Told from the English perspective/experience. Fascinating to see how much attitudes have changed about war, the enemy, duty and so much more. The updated and colorized video is gut wrenching and sobering. War is brutal and seeing how humans adapt to it and bond through it (as well as feeling completely misunderstood by those not have the same experience) is clearly portrayed. Real. Those that glorify the experience and brotherhood of war see why and those that abhor the horrors and realities of war will also enjoy. Balanced and educational.
