Ying hung boon sik II (1987)
The Uneven Sequel
I will admit I was expecting better from this film as lots of people say this film is better that the first one.The only reason people say that is because of the climatic Shoot-out in the end that last for about 10 to 15 min of nonstop action. besides the ending is the film any good? It's hard to tell I will admit I felt the film was a lot longer than the first film.It was too melodramatic and the whole Twin brother idea was very out of place.Though this film has some good scenes a Apartment shootout by chow Yun fat and A very memorable scene that involves Chow-yun fat and a bowl of rice.but let's get to the review.
For those that don't know whoever has not seen the first film I suggest you don't read my review because it is full of spoilers. In the first film Ho(Ti Lung) and Mark(Chow-Yun Fat)were involved in a shootout with mob boss Shing though they killed him and his gang in the end, still both paid a price. Ho was sent back to Jail and Mark was killed in the end.
Now the police want to make a deal with Ho. The police want him to get close to his old boss Lung(Dean Shek) because there's reasons to believe that he's been doing illegal things. At first Ho refuses but when he finds out his Brother Kit(Leslie Cheung) is on the case he changes his mind.
Now Lung has been framed for murder and goes to new york to hideout.until his assassins find him and kill his daughter and his best friend in front of him.He goes insane and loses his mind.after what happened Ho goes to reminisce of the past and finds out Mark had a twin brother name Ken who also lives in New York.Ho contacts Ken and now Ken has to protect Lung from his assassins and other enemies.
Now you think this already starting to get good until it gets to some melodramatic scenes that mostly involve Kit and Lung and I feel It's a waste of time because the sub-plots interfere with the pacing of the film but it's all worth it in the ending.
as for character development it's decent but not as stand-out as the first film to me I felt the film was focus more on Kit than anyone else. The problems he's going through his life having a baby, his wife thinking he's having an affair and feeling guilty for the death of lung's daughter.Though he has mature too be honest the audience dosen't care.Ho before being the main character he has dropped to a supporting character.and someone that's bad. Also the new Character the guy That's on the cover of the DVD? Ken; He's not worth mentioning he doesn't stand out like mark did.to me it's just a fake mark.
as for the acting it's sub-par but it could of been worse.First i'll start with Chow Yun Fat. what can I say about Chow-yun fat I mean he's a great actor but It feels like he's on cruise control in this film to be honest I feel like chow wasn't giving his all. Ti Lung I mean he gives his usual solid performance but it's far from noteworthy or even stand out as his performance from the first film.Leslie Cheung has improved in his acting to be honest he performance of the lot was one of the memorable performance from the film.Dean Shek was too over-the-top for me his insane scenes were bad and could of been a lot better I wish the film wasn't really focusing on him.but when's normal he gives a solid performance.
overall just watch the ending to be honest I was going to give this film 4 stars but save the film from the ending and chow-Yun Fat's Rice scene.
Dip huet gai tau (1990)
John Woo's Darkest Film
This Film without a doubt is John Woo's Darkest film.A Film focused on three best friends who go to Vitenam to smuggle goods for a living. But they are caught in a middle of a war that will affect them for the rest of their lives.John Woo makes a dark tale on reality. How messed up the real world is and how your best friends aren't always loyal to you.he does brings his message well in the film and makes it a good film but there are little bumps along the way.Though Character development is on top form and the Acting is Marvelous, still the Plot is uneven at best and a bit confusing still this film is great.
The film takes place in 1968 Hong Kong.Ben(Tony Leung) is about to get married with his girlfriend and his friends Frank(Jacky Chung) and Paul(Waise Lee) are on his side into helping him get married.things are going good but Frank needs to pick up a loan to pay off the Marriage he gets the money but is jumped by a group of punks.Frank tells Ben what happened and Ben kills the Gang Leader in rage.Ben is now being chased by the police and decides to leave Hong Kong with his friends to Vitenam to smuggle goods for a living.
Once they get to Vitenam, It's all fine and Dandy until they find out how bad the country is.They witness a soldier killing A young boy for an assassination attempt and now that their supplies are destroyed in the process they go find a man name Luke(Simon Yam).Luke helps them with weapons and now Ben wants to help a singer name Sally who is a slave to A crime Boss.He wants to help Sally into leaving Vitnam and going back to Hong Kong. While trying to Escape Paul goes crazy with Greed after finding a box of gold and becoming Desperate to escape that even his friendship and loyalty start to disappear.
So far after watching this movie you Get confused and lost into the plot but it's the action and the characters that keep your interest.
As for Character You Feel You can relate to.Ben your everyday lover who has dreams for the future and wants better in life and to have children and a wife. He's a real likable character that most people can relate to.Frank is another character you can relate to as well. The loyal friend that would do anything for you no matter what.A character like that is what you call a true friend.Paul however is yes at first loyal but money and power gets to his head will anything for it if it means to kill a person or your best friend and becomes annoying during the middle of the film.
As for acting, Great. It comes to no surprise that Tony Leung gives a memorable performance as Ben.Before becoming famous in Hong Kong this film was one his early films in his career and gave a performance that lets you know Tony can act.it's a shame this film was not famous in Hong Kong maybe it could of made Tony Famous or at least win an award. Jacky Cheung Surprisiing me at least gives a great performance.I will admit never liked Jacky Cheung as an Actor he was too over-the top for me but he gives an amazing performance as the goofy lovable Frank his performance is yes a bit goofy but he gets away with it in the end when goes crazy and I'm Amaze how he did a great job pulling it off.Waise Lee however unlike Tony Leung and Jacky Cheung his performance isn't that great which is a shame given the performance he gave in A better tomorrow was great.Past the lead Simon Yam does well with his small Role it's a shame he wasn't given much because his character was interesting.
overall great film watch it see for your self.
Lat sau san taam (1992)
One of the best action film of all time
Hard-Boiled is without a doubt one of the top 10 best action films of all times with it's slow motion, over-the-top violence and the unlimited ammo that the characters get. Though it's not John woo's best film it does lack in a couple of minor areas and unlike most of John Woo flicks his films always has subplots and twist in his films but in this film it's straight-forward and not all the characters are well-developed. but never less with it's action pack sets, A breakneck pacing, and solid acting just sit back and enjoy.
The film is about A cop name Tequila a honest, hard-boiled cop who witness his partner get killed in a teahouse shootout started by triads and wants nothing but to bring justice to avenge his' partner's death.he gets closer and closer into bringing the triads down but finds out that an undercover cop name Alan, who is working as hit-man for the triads is in his way and is afraid that Tequila might bust his cover as a triad.Eventually Tequila and Alan finally become friends and work together to bust down Johnny Wong, A psychotic triad boss who trusts Alan and starting to have his doubts about him.eventually Tequila and Alan are in middle of a gun-battle inside a hospital where Johnny has a stash of guns hidden and now Tequila and Alan must work together in order to bring Johnny down.
Overall, the plot is straight-forward and far from confusion as it starts off from the teahouse shootout, to the warehouse shootout and a climatic 30 minute hospital shootout that has some of the most insane shootout you'll ever see in a film from Tequila sliding down a stairail to shoot down a couple of guys.or in the warehouse where tequila explodes a motorcycle in mid-air to be honest the's so much stuff I don't even know it might fit in this review.
though the film lacks in character development.Tequila is your straight-forward, hard-boiled, dirty harry type of cop who only wants to bring justice but not much is known about though it would have been nice if he was a bit developed. To be honest Alan is the most developed of the two.He has regrets of what he does as a cop and a killer.the fact he's lonely and isolated from the world and has to kill people just not to blow his cover and it's people he cares about and it makes him crazy and angry inside as well.
as for the acting it's solid and enjoyable to watch as everyone does a great job of the roles there given.Chow-Yun Fat gives a solid performance as Tequila usually he would play charming, charisma characters, but he does well playing the hard-boiled cop.But when it's all said and done Tony Leung steals the show as Alan.He plays the character with a charm and always on point with the role. But what makes him stand out is his range of emotion. At one point he could smiling, two seconds later he has a mean look on his face that makes it so realistic overall I give Kudos to Tony Leung as Alan.past the leads Anthony Wong as Johnny Wong is not bad but if his character wasn't so cartoonist he would of gave a better performance.
Overall Great film I recommend to anyone out there go get it.
Ying hung boon sik (1986)
A John Woo Classic
A Better Tomorrow Is the first film to create the type of slow-motion gun fights that are seen in many films and now video games. But the film is not really a action film as this film is less action-like and more dramatic than most John woo films. As it focuses on two brothers and a young man on the verge on finding a better life. The film has great memorable likable characters, Powerful acting, a great pacing and a Soundtrack that has you tuning for days.
The film is about a gangster name Ho who is trying to escape his gangster life to protect and lookout for his younger brother Kit. Kit is a up-incoming police officer who has no idea what his brother does for a career.Ho is given a assignment to go to Taiwan for a deal but is set-up by his driver Shing and Ho is arrested and sent to prison. After hearing this Ho's friend and partner Mark goes to avenge his partner to go to Taiwan to kill the person that set him up.in the process Mark is shot in the leg and left cripple.
Three Years later Ho is release from jail and finds out things have changed. His brother has become more bitter and has hatred for his brother for being a gangster and blames him for his father's death.Mark before being a well-known gangster has become a car washer and a bum living in a parking garage. He has thrown his gangster life away and lost it in a blink of an eye and Shing, Ho's old driver is now the boss. Ho is trying to reconcile with his brother but due to his deep-hatred he has for him and now his old gang wanting to get rid of Ho and Mark for being pests things are getting tough in Ho's life.
The film feels like a drama film than of a action film. Because half of the film is Kit and Ho trying to accept each other and also Mark's Struggle to come back to his old gangster life and prove he's more than just a gangster than knows how to use two guns.but this drama is far from boring making these characters real and believable as well.
As for character development it's on top form.We learn that Ho is a wise, caring man who is looking out for his brother from danger.but goes though a lot because he has chosen to leave the criminal life and lookout for his brother and Mark making him a likable character.Kit is a first a care-free person but when he finds about his brother he becomes a troubled character with a lot of angered inside him and cannot forgive his brother at all for what he has done.Mark is the most likable character in the film from being a Dynamic, fun-free, smooth character in the beginning to a Man trying to become man looking for a better life as well.
Thanks to the characters, the acting is in top-shape.Ti Lung gives well performance as Ho as he makes his character believable and bring a level of emotion as well pulling off amount of range.Leslie Chung is great as Kit.as he plays the naive, bitter character well making him into somewhat of a spoiled brat. But when all said and done, Chow-Yun Fat steals the show as Mark.He fits into his role well as the comical Mark and enjoys playing his character despite the fact in the beginning of the film he plays the role a bit over-the-top.But it's his climax performance that steals the show.making you want to crying in his dramatic sense when he tells Ho he wants to be a better man.
Overall this is great movie you will enjoy it I'm telling you You will.
The Dentist (1996)
Another Cheesy Horror Fllim
This film to me is just another cheesy horror film with the usual stereotypical plot of a normal person gone insane. it is used in horror films to many times. But in this film it's quite enjoyable.though the film is not all that great.with the lack of character development,A bland plot and very poor acting. But the film is saved by great camera shots, a decent pacing and a very memorable performance by Corbin Bernsen.
The film starts with Dr. Alan Feinstone a successful dentist who's got it all until things start going downhill for him. He finds out that his wife is having sex with his pool man and starts to go insane by having thoughts of killing him and her as well. when he gets to work his stress and problems start affecting him at work.he has visions when he does a little boy's teeth and hurts the boy in the process thinking he has rotten teeth.
Later the day he has a plan to get revenge on his wife he does an oral surgery by yanking all of her teeth out her mouth and removes her tongue in the process. The pool boy realize what's going on and is killed in the process and now Dr Fienstone has gone to the other side of insanity and will kill anyone who has rotten teeth or gets in his way.
The plot overall is very flat and dull. This type of plot has been done in so many films if your a fan of horror film you get tired of it.but in this film it fits perfectly but then again you could care less.
As for character development it's very weak.these characters are so flat and dull, by the end of the film whoever or not dies you could care less. The protagonist Dr. Feinstone is the only developed character in the whole film. You understand he's a neat freak and has a short temper and wants things to be done in order, making his character not very likable. But as the film progress the level of insatiny evolves into him from thinking about killing his pool boy and wife it's the anger and revenge he wants from those who can't stand him.In a way you understand what he is going through and you can't blame for going insane.
as for the acting it's very poor.though Corbin Bersen is on top of game as he gives the standout performance as Dr. Feinstone. It's the Range he pulls off in this film and stealing the show from the other actors.to be honest he never breaks character he knows how perfectly portray the insane doctor.with his visions of rotten teeth to his anger moments as he yells at people and showing no remorse of his actions as he overall takes this performance home.as for the rest of the actors I can't say much as everyone gives a bad performance and everyone acts if there reading off the script.
Overall this film is not bad worth renting but not buying.
Uchû daikaijû Dogora (1964)
Two Movies In One
This Film Feels like two movies in one.One part focus on the monster Dogora, a jellyfish like space monster and the other on a bunch of criminals stealing diamonds that Dogora has an interest for. This film does has some lesser moments from dogora being a uninteresting monster but is saved by the cast of characters, solid acting and has humor to keep this film being good.
The film starts off with a gang of diamond thieves stealing diamonds but eventually they start noticing weird things from floating in the air and seeing a weird object at the diamond place.Meanwhile detective Komai is investigating on a suspicious character name Mark Jackson who has something to do with the diamond heist that went wrong and Mark Jackson has his own motives of his own when he visits the gang boss of diamond thieves.
Later, The Gang tries to come with another heist to steal the diamonds but are interrupted by Mark Jackson. But notice that one of the trucks starts floating in the air though the diamond gang got away with the diamonds but really it was candy as they were tricked.Komai Evenutally finds Mark Jackson and realize that he's a special agent looking for the diamonds and to make sure the gang doesn't get it.
Envenutally strange things start happening around the world from diamond shops to anywhere with diamond sunnedly disappear and Dr. Munakata a professor on carbon dioxide know that the space creature Dogora is taking the diamond soon enough Dogora is in Kyushu and is attacking can It be stop? Overall, Dogora is very uninteresting by the time he appears on screen which is the middle of the film. His appearance somewhat hurts the pacing of the film as you could care less about the monster and really focus and pay more attention to the cast of characters who really steals the show from the title monster.Plus the humor that is brought into the film. From Mark Jackson Shrugging his shoulders,to Komai's naive attitude that make him look dumb and Gangster Sabu who cowardly attitude that has at least you grinning.
as for the Acting, Everyone gives a solid job with their roles, despite what little there given.Robort Dunham gives the most memorable and enjoyable performance of the cast. It's his Fluent Japanese that has his performance praised and deserves Props for his performance.Yosuke Natsuki is another Detective-Deadpan lead for this film.since his character is so flat, he gives a flat performance as well.Nabuo Nakamura as Dr. Munakata is well done.He really fits into his role as the curious bland doctor as he he wants Dogora to be studied not killed.Yoko Fujiyama brings a charm, innocent look to her role as Masayo Kirino as she is the doctor's assistant and also it's funny and cute when she flirts with Komai a.And last there Akiko Wakabayshi as Hamako. Her seductive flare and sly energetic-ness make her role interesting and great.
Overall, Dogora is not bad It's worth watching one or twice when your not doing anything at all but it's not worth watching 60 times though.
Daikaijû Baran (1958)
A Forgotten Toho Monster
To be honest, I read lots of reviews of this movie and most from bad to mediocre reviews but I gave it a chance and the reviewers were right. This film is not so great.from the flat characters,a bland plot to the film's worst offender, the Awful pacing is what makes this movie bad. But It does have some good moments from the great music score, to the special effects and the decent acting.but besides that lets review this movie.
The film starts with the protagonist trio Kenji,Yuriko and Horiguchi sent on a expedition to find out the death of Yuriko's brother who died earlier in the film.they come to a village where the priest warns them to leave or they will be killed.Kenji insults the priest and thinks he's crazy.soon enough Ken a village boy goes looking for his dog and Kenji goes to save the boy and challenges the priest's warning and the villagers agree to help Kenji. The trio eventually finds Ken near a lake and some of the villagers see something appear from the lake and it's Varan going to the village and the film's slow pacing starts once Varan appear from his attack from the military to his raid in Hanada Airport.
Overall by the time Varan comes you lose focus in the movie and the characters.the films slow pacing is what just makes you want to stop watching the film. plus Varan isn't a very memorable monster, the only memorable thing he does is fly and only does it once out of the whole film.
As for the characters, there flat as a surfboard. These bland characters are so flat and boring there also another offender of the film.Kenji is your overall hero, but isn't very likable as he offends the priest and Horiguchi during the beginning of the film and is somewhat naive.Yuriko is another damsel in distress and very uninteresting. As for Horiguchi he's what you call the comical side-kick as he is a coward and has his moments besides giving so little work. He's really the only character I can praise though i did want Varan to eat him in the end.
As for the Acting, surprising it's not bad. It's really good, despite the fact the cast is given so little to do.Kozo Nomora who plays Kenji well here as really he fits into his bland role well and really out of the whole film he never lacks off.Ayumi Sonoda who plays Yuriko is really the only one to give a poor performance at times she fine when not much is needed from her.but when she has to do something like bump into varan it's bad.Fumito Matsuo as Horiguchi does a good job with the very tiny role he is given as he looks like he enjoys and having fun with his role.Past the leads Akihiko Hirata has a brief role but probably gives the best performance of the cast as he does a better job with role unlike his previous role from the Mysterians.Yoshio Tsuchiya isn't given much work to do but he does well with what he's given.overall everyone does a decent job with their little roles.
Overall this film is boring and probably worth watching once or twice but not repeatedly itself.
Demolition Man (1993)
An Action Classic
this film without a doubt, is a underrated classic. It's really one of my favorite action flick.from the memorable characters, to the great performances, to the great pacing, and the humor in the film to make this an enjoyable film.
The film starts in 1996 officer John Spartan is on a hunt to catch criminal Simon Phoenix.Spartan evenutally catches him, but is arrested when police officers find out that hostages where in a burning building and John takes the blame for their deaths.John is sentenced to be frozen in prison for about 60 years for his crime.
Now, 36 years have passed the world has changed from crimes to the environment and etc. Now, Simon Phoenix is having a parole hearing but evenutally frees himself and kills a couple of guards and a doctor.Phoenix also realizes that he has changed and wonders how.he is more stronger, more smarter, and more violent.realizing that the police don't stand a chance against him.they decided to realize John Spartan since he was the only person that ever stopped phoenix.Spartan is now back being a cop and fights phoenix in a museum where guns only exist.
John finally discovers that phoenix was relased because to kill someone and john has no choice but stop phoenix despite the fact he is much stronger than him but he isn't alone since he has help from fellow officer Lt. Lenina Huxley.
Overall, the one problem of this film is that the film is straight-forward and mediocre.really no plot holes in this film. From phoenix being realized to being stronger and it's obivious that john spartan is gonig to fight phoenix and defeat him in the end so really this film has really no surprises.
as for character development, it's decent.John spartan is the overall, tough-guy "I Don't give a damn" personality.but he has sympathy for others. The scene where the scraps are stealing food from taco bell, he defends them for trying to eat and look for food from the others criticizing them.Simon phoenix is the overall bad-guy.A violent, rude, loud mouth person. but for some reason his character has feelings the scene where he kills Dr. Raymond Cocteau for losing his mind you somewhat cheer for him in the end. Lt. Lenina Huxley is a Dynamic hero. she is energetic and somewhat immature and enjoyable, and has also has a growing affection on John Spartan, making her a likable character.
as for the acting It's solid. Sylvester Stallone gives an overall solid performance as John Spartan.he really fits in his role well in this film and it's also funny with his chemistry Lt. Lenina Huxley as he mostly complains of saying insults wrong. Wesley Snipes gives the most memorable performance in the film. it's obvious he enjoys playing the psychotic killer which make his performance enjoyable and really his character brings most of the humor in the film, with his over-the-top insults, and attitude.Sandra Bullock does give great performance as Lenina Huxley as she also enjoys playing her character and making her character likable with her chemistry as with Sylvester Stallone.
Overall this film is enjoyable I suggest this film to anyone who hasn't seen it trust me it's great.
Dirty Work (1998)
A Solid Comedy Film
To tell you the truth this film is underrated.from being a box-office failure,To critics Panning the film to it's stupid jokes.but it is an enjoyable comedy.A Straight-forward plot,Solid Acting, pacing runs smoothly in this film though character development is a Mixed bag.and at times the jokes can be corny but it's solid and funny.
The film is about two friends Mitch(Norm Macdonald) and Sam(Artie Lange) a bunch of lazy pranksters who have been pranking people for revenge for years.Evenutally Sam's dad Pop's(Jack Warden)has a heart attack and needs a heart's transplant and Mitch and Sam need $50,000 dollars for the surgery. They get jobs from construction working to working at the movies. But when they play a prank at their boss Mitch comes up with a idea to make money.Open up a revenge's business.
soon enough a millionaire Travis Cole(Christopher Mcdonald) wants to a evict a building of people to build a parking lot he uses Mitch and Sam to help him evict the building and offering $50,000 Dollars to both of them.but when he double cross both of them they come up a way to get revenge at Travis Cole.
The Plot is very straight-forward there are no twist or turns in this film just straight forward.nothing really surprising something you except in these type of comedies.
As for character development it's A mixed Bag.Mitch and Sam are two most developed characters. For the fact one Mitch is really the smartest out of the two.with his devilish plans, and mostly getting hurt and getting the girls.Sam is the slow-dimwitted,Fat friend. He's the sidekick.A Loser, and sensitive about everything and rarely gets hurt in the film or is the joke of everything.Never gets the girl and usually starting a fight with someone.as the rest some are well developed some are underdeveloped. For example Kathy is underdeveloped you don't learn much about her character except her love for Mitch and her grandma.Jack Warden As pops is developed.the fact of being a rough boxer and his sexual obsession with hot woman.and also having sex with Mitch's mom.
As the acting It's solid for this type of film.Jack Warden and Don Rickles give the most memorable performances as their characters.Don Rickles has funny scenes especially insulting Sam for being fat.Jack Warden with his Sexual Jokes about woman which brings most of the humor in the film.Norm Macdonald despite his Dead-Pan performance but really fits in his role as the prankster bum.he also brings lots of humor in the film as well when he is talking on his take recorder or the trunk prank of the hookers.Chris Farley with his over-the-top performance but his some humor as well with his nose being ripped off.As the rest they all do a good job with the film.
Overall it's a solid film go see it it's enjoyable.
Chikyû Bôeigun (1957)
The First Toho Outer Space Film
For Years The Mysterians has made a name for being one of the first outer space science fiction films in japan. At the time it was a popular film due to it's Amazing special effects,straight-forward plot that is interesting,Great music and Aliens.Though this film is not perfect it has it's flaws It's lack of character development,The Acting is a mixed bag and a rough pacing that somewhat downs this amazing film.
It begins at a festival with the main characters Atsumi and Shiraishi(Kenji Sahara & Ahikiko Hirata) and their girlfriends until they see a forest fire Shiraishi goes into the forest fire but is undiscovered the next day.The Next Day Atsumi gets a phone call about a tremor destroying a village.he goes and checks it out during his search he sees a landslide and something coming out a giant robot that starts attacking anything it sees it's defeated when it reaches a bridge since it was planted with explosives.days later A dome appears out of nowhere it is a alien base the aliens are called Mysterians who are on earth for at least two miles of land and five earth woman and one of them are Atsumi's girlfriend Atsumi and The Japanese government disagree with this offer so they decide to attack the mysterians with force.
soon enough Atsumi finds out Shiraishi has joined the Mysterians because of their advance technology and Science.Shiraishi warns Atsumi that attacking the Mtysterians is not smart and earth should join the mysterians. The Army Attacks but don't even put a dent on there dome and come with other ideas.Soon Enough The Mysterians kidnap Atsumi's Girlfriend ans Atsumi has no choice but save her so he finds a secret entrance to enter The dome.while in the Dome Shiraishi Helps atsumi destroy the Mysterians because The Mysterians were using him to takeover the earth. So Shiraishi tries to destroy the base and the Army using Heat Rays to destroy the Dome. The mysterians are defeated and they fly back into space.
The Plot is very Straight-forward and that how most Science-fiction films were back in the day no changing or surprising plot just straight forward.About The Mysterians the plans to defeat them and etc.
As for Special effects there are some of the best I've seen in a toho film from The Alien robot to the scene where the army soldier uses the flamethrower on the robot to the army battle between the Mysterians is excellent as well.To the inside of the dome with all the gadgets and weird technology.everything is good for the special effects.
As for Character Development it's very flat and Weak.there are no develop characters that stand-out except Shiraishi who sides with the Mysterians then Betrays them for the good of the earth.Atsumi played by Kenji Sahara is a straight-forward hero no development at all.as for everyone else the same as well there are no developed characters.
As for the Acting It's a mixed bag at times no one gets into their roles or have fun with it.Kenji Sahara gives a bland performance as Atsumi as he is out of place with his role and really isn't in to it and really needs to master his craft.Takeshi Shimura Gives without a doubt the best performance of the lot even though at times lacks the energy and feels uninspired.Same goes to Akikiko Hirata at times he's emotionless and uninspired and dosen't get into his roles.really there are no memorable performances at all.
But what Kills this film is the Pacing it feels so long with the long speeches and the planning of how to defeat the Mysterians is boring.
Overall It's A solid film with good special effect and is enjoyable.
Gojira tai Mekagojira (1974)
The Best Godzilla Film Of the 70's
This film without a doubt is the best Godzilla film from the seventies.despise the fact of a couple of flaws the special effects is a mixed bag,The acting is a mixed bag,Character development is really a huge weak point in this film.but the Pacing is normal far from boring.camping cool type of music and two new monsters and a returning favorite monster coming back.
The film starts off with a girl predicting that a monster will come and destroy the world.meanwhile in A cave there has been mysterious things inside and a statue inside.soon enough there is writing inside saying that a monster will come to destroy the earth and two other monsters will come to protect the earth.soon in mount Fuji Godzilla appears and begins attacking and fights Angrius.Angrius is defeated and Godzilla is attacking a power plant.soon enough in the sea another Godzilla appears and attacks the other Godzilla.the main characters find out that the Godzilla from mount Fuji is a fake one.Mechagodzilla a robot controlled by Spacemen.Godzilla and Mechagodzilla have a short fight but ends in a bang.soon enough Godzilla returns to mount Fuji to heal himself and starts to become magnetic.
The aliens find out about another monster name King Caesar that may stop mechagodzilla so they decided to kidnap Professor Miyajima to repair mechagodzilla and to make him stronger.soon enough Mechagodzilla appears again because the aliens have found King ceaser.soon enough Godzilla appears and fights mechagodzilla.
Right now i'm going to stop the reason why i stopped because whoever is reading this and hasn't seen the movie I don't want to give up the ending I want the reader to see the film and think about it.I'm just giving you my opinion.
As for plot it's interesting with the aliens and mechagodzilla to takeover the film and they become more interesting than Godzilla. As Mechagodzila for a robot he really is a monster with his eye beams to his missile fingers and etc.the only thing different about Godzilla is that he's magnetic.that it.
As for character development it's very weak you don't know anything about the main characters and really don't care about them.the most developed character would be Professor Hideto Miyajima the fact that he wants revenge on the aliens for hurting his daughter and him fixing the mechagodzilla so he goes back in the Aliens base and destroys them. after that you don't learn much about any of the characters.
as for the acting it's a mixed bag.Masaaki Daimon gives a dead-pan performance and isn't into his role as well and he's the hero.Akihiko Hirata who plays Professor Hideto Miyajima even though he is lacking a little bit of energy in the film but he gives the best performance of the lot.Kazuya Aoyama who plays the main character's brother is so over-the-top his acting is bad and annoying.Goro Mutsumi who plays the alien leader fares better who brings a cold performance in his role and looks like he's having fun with it.
really this film with out a doubt it's the best Godzilla film of the seventies go watch it you'll have fun.
State Property 2 (2005)
Better Than The First
Maybe Not a classic but this film is decent.A big step up from the first one better characters, better acting and better funnier scenes but this movie has too many problems. It's Very long, the pacing is strecth out,and the plot just like the first is very confusing but in the end it's not bad for a gangster film.
The film leaves off where Beans The main character from the first film has been sent to jail for lots of reasons and crimes.now he is serving 15 to 30 years in jail.in jail he meets a couple of new characters Free and "El pollo loco" who help him to get out of jail if he decides to join together to become the number one guys in Philly.but the only way is stopping them is Beans' rival Dame who still has a score to settle with Beans and doesn't like the fact that he isn't given a shot to become number one in Philly.so both crews from Beans and Dame go at each by killing each others robbing each other and etc.when Beans comes out of jail he's mad that his crew has been slacking and making him look bad while out of jail him and Dame confront each other and they find out that they were getting played by "El Pollo Loco" in the end Beans and Dame team up to get back at "El Pollo Loco" but Loco finds out that his close friend betrays him just to get money and he sets up the whole thing about Beans and Dame Loco finds out and Kills him in the end and Beans and Dame have ended there beef...For Now.
Now the plot at first is straight forward but just gets lost and confusing at times With too many flashback scenes that have you lost but if you watch it a couple of times you may understand it.The pacing is long and drags.but the reason why is that this movie is a little long so maybe that's the reason.
as for Character development it has stepped up since the first film. You know a lot more about Beans and Dame's characters how they started, how they became drug dealers the thing about Beans and Dame is both are drug dealers but have different personalities Beans' is rough, tough and does it the dirty way. While Dame does it professionally and clean without getting his hands dirty it sucks that this development wasn't shown in the first.
As for the acting it's a mixed bag.there are no stand-out or memorable performances but it's decent. For Beanie Sigel he has step his acting game a little bit and show inspiration and that thugness that makes his role believable.same goes for Damon Dash as he fits in his role and plays his role so smoothly and is having fun with his role.N.O.R.E. does a good job playing the comical "EL Polo Loco" as his character brings the humor into the film and gives an a good performance.Freeway is given yet a Dean-pan role so I can't say much about his performance Omillio Sparks gives the same performance that he gave in the first and isn't as funny as he was in the first film just annoying.as for the rest of the actor the all do a so-so job so good, some bad.
Overall it's a decent movie go watch it if you haven't seen it.
State Property (2002)
Unoriginal
This Movie Is disappointing I'm horrible The plot is bad and boring,Flat-out characters,Terrible acting, the pacing fells like it's a 3 hour film, there's nothing good about this film just your everyday wannabe Scarface film.
The film is about Beans who is tired of being broke so he decides to become a drug dealer with him and his friends selling drugs around Philly and making money and killing whoever gets in the way.Soon later in the film A character name Dame comes and decides to get even with Beans after he disrespects him and both of them go against each other in the film.
First of all the plot is so unoriginal the fact that Beans wants to become a drug dealer out of nowhere is dumb he has no really good reason just to get money that's it nothing else.and the pacing is so long there are scenes that feel that just too long and are unimportant.
As for the characters there's so flat. you don't much about beans' character.he's just a drug dealer trying to make money and that's it and the same goes for dame nothing else either he a drug dealer.as for beans' crew ABM they do bring some humor in the film but as a whole there no development for example the leader of the crew Baby Boy is so underdeveloped and very far from likable and I should point this out nobody in this film is likable. The only character that shows little bit of development is Blizz he's only motive is to be on top and get money and become a boss and goes further with that motivation when he betrays Beans but gets killed during the middle.so that's really it.
As for the acting well since most of the actors are Rappers I should be easy about this but they need to step there Acting game up.Beanie Sigel as beans he really needs to take some acting lesson If he did maybe he would have given a better performance than his bad performance.Same goes for Damon Dash's acting bad.he really at times struggles with his role despite the fact that he isn't an actor.Omillio Sparks with his Over-the-top performance gets on your nerves after a while even though at times it's funny but not laugh-out loud.Jay-Z has a cameo in this film but I can't judge his acting since his screen time was so small.as for the rest of the actors They all do a bad job with there roles.
For anyone who has seen this film stay away from it it's not worth your time your better off watching the the second state property which is ten times better.
A Night at the Roxbury (1998)
Stupid But Funny
This Film Is probably one of the most stupid movie I've seen but every time I see It I Still laugh-out-loud watching this movie. It a comedy classic very funny.
The movie is about two brothers Doug and Steve Butabi(Chris Kattan and Will Ferrell) who are stereotype guys who go to the clubs every night until they find out about a fancy club called the roxbury they try everything they can to get in the club from seeing if there name is on the list or bribing the bouncer with $5 dollars.at times there about to give up but they get a fender-bender from Richard Greico and trying to avoid a lawsuit Richard helps the guys get into the club.when they do they meet Mr. Zadir and two "hotties" and experience something they have never did go out and dance with a girl and score at the same time.
This a funny-Stupid film with there jokes and screw-up really make you laugh out loud for example the scene where there in line to get into the Roxbury they have that memorable Emilio estavez scene which is funny.or when Doug bangs his head in the window and breaks it while bopping his head to his favorite song "What Is Love".
As for acting it solid for a stupid movie Chris Katten gives a good performance as the older brother but Will Ferrell steals the show with his stupid lines and coping everything what his brother does from picking his nose to doing his hair It's Funny.Dan Heyaya who plays the Dad Is funny as well when he's yelling at his sons.Molly Shannon who plays Steve's girlfriend however is annoying and gives an over-the-top performance. As for everyone is they do a good job with what there given so that's really the good acting.
Overall funny movie go it you will enjoy it.
Killa Season (2006)
Bad Film
This Movie is disappointing just bad and I mean everything bad.bad plot,Terrible acting,Flat out characters, bad editing everything is bad.
The movie is about Flea(Cam'ron)A everyday person going nowhere in life until he chooses the life of drug dealing to get money and that all I got to say.
Now for the bad parts let me start off with the acting I'll tell You one thing these people do not know how to act everyone is either going over-the-top or just giving a Dead-Pan Performance.the worst acting comes from Cam'ron. For example the scene where his cousin dies he can't even cry or show real emotion.just fake and bad.the only good acting comes from Funkmaster Flex who disses cam'ron in one scene which was the only funny scene that had me laughing and he ain't even an actor.Juelz Santana who plays Bandana is Bad as well who gives a over-the top performance even though his character is so underdeveloped.
Speaking of development there is not one developed character.everyone is flat and Dead-Pan.You don't know nothing from any of the characters so the development is bad.
As for the Plot It's too confusing and lame. The plot just switches from one part to another making you lost.Plus the pacing is long with all these parts about selling drugs and getting money.
Overall Bad movie to stay away from.Really.
The Pest (1997)
Another Stupid Comedy
At times when I watch this movie i start to think that the people who made this movie were on drugs. What's wrong with this film I'll tell you Bad Plot,Bad Jokes.Bad Acting and flat-out characters everything just bad.
The movie is about Pest Vargas a two-bit scam hustler who is given the chance at $50,000 to survive for 24 hours by a German hunter who kills people for a living.so now Pest must think of ways to out think this hunter before he gets killed.
I know what your thinking "What The Hell is this?" a another wannabe Ace Ventura trying to get money really this plot is just dull and confusing at times it changes the story plot and you get lost during the film.
As for the funny scenes this film I had a straight face oh yeah I did smile a couple times but nothing laugh-out loud.besides the jokes are corny and seen before it's like watching Ace Ventura meets Dumb and Dumber but bad.
As for character development it's dry and flat. You don't learn much about the main character Pest all you know is he's a annoying scam hustler but that's it he doesn't change his image or be a little smart just corny.as for The German hunter all you is that he's crazy and wants to go back to Germany.really you start to wonder why is this guy living on an island if has money to go to Germany. The hunter's son Himmel fares better but not much. He's really a coward and is snake-obsessed for reasons by the end He stands Up to his father and sides with Pest.
As for the acting no only were there any memorable perforamces but just over the top.For example John Legizomo is so over the top with performance and dosen't fit in his role he's out of place as for Jeffery Jones who plays the hunter same thing but gives a stereotypical performance as well.as for the rest either just no used enough or just over the top.
overall bad comedy that you'll find for $2.00 at K-Mart.
Gojira no gyakushû (1955)
Another Average Godzilla Film
This isn't the best Godzilla film I've seen but it's a lot better than some of the other film For Example(Godzilla Vs Megalon). So It's Decent but nothing amazing so this is it.
The movie starts off with two pilots landing on an island and discovering two monsters fighting each other Godzilla and Angrius. They fall into the sea while fighting and the pilot head back to Osaka to tell people about what they seen. The military go on a hunt to find both monsters until Godzilla appears in Osaka bay and Angrius also appear and they start fighting destroying the cities into bits from factories to buildings and the Osaka Castle.Angrius is defeated by Godzilla after biting it in the neck.and burning it into flames soon enough the two pilots go to Hokkaido for an assignment until they are notified about Godzilla destroying a ship at sea.one of the pilots goes to find Godzilla and finds him in an icy island and and comes back with the air force and they bury him in a iceberg in the end.
Now the plot is simple and straight forward but pacing in this film is bad at times it feels that the movie is about 3 hours the reason I say this is because this film is focus on the characters not Godzilla or Angrius. But the sad thing is that the characters are flat and dull.hardly any development which is bad.
as for the acting with hardly any development in characters what do you think? Not one memorable performance some of the actors are either a bland performance or Dead-Pan.so that's what I got to say about the actors.
As for special effects it's really what saves this movie the scenes with Godzilla and Angrius are great.with their fights in Osaka and the end with the bury of Godzilla of the iceberg.as for the Godzilla suit Godzilla needs to see a dentist because his teeth are messed-up.As angrius he fares better with the spikes his crocodile snout is great so as for special effects I give a thumps-up.
overall its an average Godzilla film something will see in the average Godzilla films.
Matango (1963)
The Weirdest Toho film ever.
Matango Is one of the weirdest toho movies ever but in a good way.I haven't seen a good horror movie from japan like this.
It starts off at a mental hospital with a man telling the story you never see his face but you'll see why his face is never shown. It at the seas seven people A Professor,A Writer,A Businessman,A Singer,A College Student,A Skipper and A hired Sailor.all on yacht trip but are involved in a storm.after the Storm then they find a fogged out island and decided to go to the island the search the island for human but when they get to the other side of the island they find a ship which is covered with fungus.they find broken mirrors,a blind Turtle and a giant mushroom called Matango.after searching the ship The Skipper tells the others that to find food but not eat the mushrooms because of caution of poison.eventually one night while all of them are sleeping but they find out there not alone they find out that someone is on the ship stalking the cast members.soon enough tired of being starved The Writer stars to eat the mushrooms and loses his mind trying to kill the other cast members he eventually kills the hired sailor and is banned from the ship. The singer joins the Writer and she also eats the mushrooms and changes completely. The Skipper before depending on helping the other he becomes Bitter and Selfish.and leaves the others on the island to starve by fixing the yacht and takes it.soon enough there is left is the Professor, the college student and the businessman who becomes desperate and has thoughts of suicide on his mind he also eats the mushrooms after becoming weak and finds out that the crew members didn't disappear they turned into mushroom monsters.
The plot is good but what makes this movie so good is the characters every single character has personality and development for example The Sailor who starts off as a low-class person judging the characters for being rich.soon enough he depends on himself by hiding food and gloats about raping the woman. The Skipper is another example he tries to help the others getting off the island soon enough he depends on himself by staying away from the others and dies by drowning in the sea.The Singer who becomes the happy-female soon enough she starts flirting with the men and just becomes evil. The Businessman who thinks he's better than the other he becomes weak for example paying galore money to the sailor who tries to sell him turtle eggs. The Writer from being a stuck-up character to a twisted psychotic killer.to tell you the truth this movie great and you should see it for how special it is.
Scream (1996)
Horror Classic
Scream is my favorite scary movie of all time with it scary moments, and it's comedy moments, memorable characters which makes this movie a classic.
The film is a about a killer who calls his victim first then eventually kills them.really he mostly focuses on teenagers and Sindey.Sindey is eventually confronted by the killer but survives.she at first she thinks it's her boyfriend but is found inconnent by police and now she must find the identify of killer before he kills her first.
really this movie has a twisting plot really have you thinking who's the killer at first you think it's this person but it isn't or that person but isn't.and gets more interesting by the minute.
as for the acting and the characters some really stand out than the others. The best characters in the film are Stu played by Matthew Lillard and Randy played by Jamie Kennedy.Stu is your everyday jokester who just really make the movie fun from all the seriousness and horror.with his jokes and funny attitude.Randy is a Scary movie nerd which makes his character odd and weird but funny.with his rules of how to survive a horror movie or his memorable "every one is a suspect" Scene which has you laughing.Neve Campbell who plays Sidney does a good job making her character believable and showing emotion in her character.David Arquette plays the dim-witted rookie police officer Dewey I mean he does a good job with the role but it's just the character that's stupid and very corny and some funny scenes.Skeet Ulrich who plays Billy Lommis at first he gives a bland performance in the beginning. But in the end he gives one of the best performance as the Psycho Killer.Courteney Cox who plays Gale Weathers the eavesdropping reporter who gives a good performance and this role fits her perfectly.she has some funny scene when she insults her cameraman for being so fat.as for the rest of the characters they all do a good job with what there given so I give props to Wes Craven for making this horror classic.
Goodfellas (1990)
Mob Classic
Goodfellas has to be the greatest mob movie.from it's memorable characters to the excellent plot that is called a classic.he're is why it is called a classic.
The movie is focused on Henry Hill(Ray Liotta)who when he was young he wanted to become a gangster and he becomes one from the mob by doing thing like selling cigarettes,Blowing up cars, delivering packages, etc.soon enough he meets Jimmy Conway(Robert De Niro).who becomes friends with Henry helps him when he's on one of his jobs.soon enough Tommy Devito(Joe Pesci)comes into Henry's life and become friend but unlike Henry.Tommy was more violent than Jimmy and Henry put together.Henry even though at first he enjoys the mob life but evenutally Henry's mob life goes upside down and bad things start to happened to him.
This movie has a good plot with memorable character at the same time Great performances.Robert De Niro who plays Jimmy "the Gent" Conway give a great performance he really watches out for Tommy and Henry and proves he can still be dangerous.Joe Pesci gives the best performance he plays the violent Tommy Devito.who loves hurting people and gets a laugh a hurting other for example the scene where the guys are playing poker Tommy gets into a fight with a bartender and shoots him in the foot.then the next time they play poker again he starts to insult him but the bartender defense himself and Jimmy gives the bartender gives him props from insulting Tommy he asks Tommy what's he's going to do Tommy pulls his gun and shoots and kills the bartender. In some way you got to hate Tommy but at time you got to love him.Ray Liotta who Henry Hill even though he's the main character and gives a solid performance but nothing really memorable maybe it was that at the time Ray Liotta wasn't an experience actor but he does a good job playing Henry Hill.Lorraine Bracco who plays Karen Hill Henry tormented Wife is more memorable than Henry with her paranoia of her husband cheating at her but the best scene where she really shines is when she loads a gun at threatens to Kill Henry but can't because she still loves Henry and she pulls it off well and making her role believable.as for the rest of the characters even though there not defiled like the main characters they still give a good job with what there given.
Still if you haven't seen this movie go get it it's a special movie.
King Kong vs. Godzilla (1963)
Monster Classic
This is probably one of my favorite Godzilla Films this is where he really shines in this movie.Same goes for King Kong.Right now I'm going to review the Japanese version since I saw it a couple of days ago.
It starts off with Mr. Tako who hates the fact he has a boring television show and is upset that he has the lowest rating in Japan.so he tries to find a way to boost up the rating.he hears about a professor that there's a monster on an island and Tako falls in love with the idea.so he sends his employees Sakurai and Furue to the to see if there really is a monster.Meanwhile in the Arctic ocean a submarine find a glowing iceberg and approaches it.Back in Japan Mr. Tako is throwing a going away party for Sakurai and Furue and tells them if they don't bring nothing they are fired.Back to the artier ocean The Submarine is close to the iceberg but it's then destroyed bursting into flames.soon enough a helicopter goes to check the site and find out not only the submarine is destroyed but that Godzilla is here. The return of Godzilla is all over Japan and Military defenses have thoughts about using the atom bomb on Godzilla.soon enough Godzilla Destroyes a military base and is all over the newspapers and television.Tako is furious that Godzilla is taking up all the media and wants a monster quickly.meanwhile Sakurai and Furue land on the island and are capture by natives but demand to find the monster.soon enough Godzilla heads to northern japan where Sakurai's sister Fumiko is looking for her boyfriend Fujita.Godzilla attack a train but Fumiko is saved by Fujita who is looking for her.back on the island Sakurai and Furue fight a giant octopus and is defeated by no other than King Kong soon enough after the fight King Kong drink a juice that will put you to sleep.after that King Kong is on a raft heading to Japan Tako is happy to the fact that King Kong is now more popular than Godzilla.soon King Kong is free from his raft heads to japan and fights Godzilla so who will win this fight King Kong Or Godzilla? The Japanese version is a lot better than the USA Version Better Music,Better acting and more funnier.Ichiro Arishima and Yu Fujiki who play Mr. Tako and Furue are really the funniest out of all the characters and in the Japanese version it's laugh out loud. there a scene where Tako is talks to a guy and bets that King Kong will beat Godzilla and is about to fight this guy.there's scenes where he's on the ship and tries to pursed the other not to kill King Kong and hits the TNT Denantor.Tadao Takashima who plays Sakurai gives a solid performance but when around Furue it's funny when he's angry and yelling at him.Kenji Sahara who plays Fujita is given yet another Dead-Pan Role and gives a bland performance except when Fumiko is prated by Kong.Akihiko Hirata who plays the Dead-pan Scientist role and also gives a bland performance but not his fault really the acting is not all that bad but for those whose hasn't the Japanese version hurry up and go see it.
Knocked Up (2007)
A Comedy Classic
I Just saw this Movie and just like 40-Year old Virgin this movie is Funny. With Good Acting,Interesting Plot and Brilliant Performances.the movie is About slacker Ben Stone who plays a pot-head slacker who is going no where in life and tries to make a stupid website with his pot-head friends.then there's Allison Scott who works a E! entertainment and is now becoming a host.after getting her promotion she and her sister Debbie go out to celebrate. They go to a club and Allison meets Ben.at first they have a five minute talk, soon enough Allison and Ben are drunk they leave the club and go to Ben's house and they have sex but Ben can't put his condom on so he has sex with her without the condom. The next day Allison throws up at work and finds out she's pregnant. She then tells Ben at first he's shock of the outcome but agrees to help Allison to raise the baby.so now Ben has responsibility to help Allison raise the baby and gets ready for fatherhood.
first I tell you one thing even though it's a comedy it still has a message that not everything in life is what you expect and that all slacker dads should raise there child.as for the acting and the cast of characters it great.Seth Rogen character is since he's the main character he's the most developed.at first he's lazy slacker later in the film he gets his life straight and gets a job and a house for himself and Allison and the baby.Plus his character is more funnier than his role from the 40-year old Virgin.Katherine Heigl who plays Allison is a hard-working woman but now has to go though the fact that she is having a baby.even she's somewhat underdeveloped still she gives a good performance.Lislie Mann who plays Debbie Allison sister tries to help Allison with her baby but goes through a lot of things that even though she's hot but is getting older and starts to wonder if her husband is cheating at her at all or even cares about her or her children at all.Paul Rudd Plays Pete Debbie's Husband who is probably the funniest character out of the cast with his insulting jokes and his impersonation of Robert De niro are laugh out loud.he also goes though stress at home with his wife and kids.and goes out several times to stay away from his family.as for the rest of the cast they do good of what there giving work with.but another standout character would have to be Ben's Dad played by Harold Ramis even though his performance is short his acting performance was great and funnier than any of the supporting characters Except for Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd.
as for that I suggest you should see this movie you'll laugh out loud, and enjoy the movie.so go see it.
Street Fighter (1994)
Good Plot bad characters
I've seen this movie a lot but after watching it last night I realized this movie was bad.I mean it had a good plot but the characters in this movie everyone is a dead-pan role.but there are a few good performances for example Raul Juila who plays Bison probably gives the best performance.even though you don't much about his character his only motive is take over the world that's it.Mina-Na who plays chun-Li give a good performance and her character has more motivation she wants revenge at bison for Killing her father and wants world peace.as for Jean-claude van damme yet another Dead-Pan Lead role.even his performance wasn't breath-taking just dull.what really makes me mad is my favorite character from the street fighter game Ryu has no personality what's so ever.instead of being the quiet, smart warrior fighter he's nothing more than a two-bit hustler with Ken his partner even though Ken is somewhat comical in this movie but just in a corny way.but out of the characters the funniest would have to be Zangief he's really the only character that matches the same personality as in the game but he isn't given enough screen time he only in a few scenes.out of the characters in the movie from the game all of them are Wac.but it's not so bad a lot of action scenes but some of the fighting scenes are forgotten even the big fight with Bison and Guile.the most memorable fight would have to be Ryu and Vega which is to short.but this was not that bad so if you like street fighter i suggest the animated version that one is the the Godfather compare to this one.
