Ode to Hitchcock and Cary Grant
18 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Loved this episode. The Thornhill name from North By Northwest; remember in North By Northwest Roger Thornhill (Cary Grant) is mistaken for a man who does not exist. And when John tells the receptionist his name is John Robie, that is a direct reference to Cary Grant''s character of the same name in the Hitchcock classic To Catch a Thief whiçh also starred Grace Kelly.

Digging the addition of Amy Acker. I am so used to seeing her play roles where is is "good.". It's a nice change to see her as a sociopath. I also like how as the series continues the writers/producers are not afraid to move things along in different directions. I am binge watching on Amazon Prime... currently in season 3...and staying up past my bedtime.

GLAD I STUCK WITH IT
1 April 2023
Like a lot of reviews listed here, I was not impressed with the first couple of episodes (bad acting, bad plot, bad f/x, etc.), but I stuck it out, and am glad I did. The characters have developed nicely, not every episode is "disaster of the week," and subplots are intriguing. I've begun to care about the characters, which is a 180 flip from when I first started watching.

It's always tough to figure out how good/bad a show is going to be after the first episode; especially with a large cast. But the writers have done a good job with creating depth, and some surprises along the way.

As a sci-fi show, the f/x are minimal and middle of the road CG; just enough to let you know it's a show in space.

The Ark is not great, but is getting better with each episode.

Not great, but not terrible either
5 March 2023
Hey, not all Marvel movies have to be about the big names (Spidey, Iron Man, etc.) They took a character with a not very recognizable name did the best they could. The cliches were there, but not too over the top. The action scenes and CGI, while not jaw-dropping, did keep my interest.

Jared Neto is not my favorite actor, but he does a decent job as being driven to succeed, without coming off as an egomaniac. His character could have used a tighter and more detailed back story, Not sure where this timeline fits into the MCU universe, although the door is left open.

Would I pay cash to see this in a theater? Nope. But an acceptable watch at home.

What The Doctor Ordered
3 July 2022
The perfect "Early morning, still drunk and silly" movie. It checks all the boxes...and if you are a fan of what it takes to make a sci-fi/horror camp movie...this is your jam!

Why the Hate?:
11 February 2022
What is with all the hate in some of these reviews? Yes, Tuduk is the star, but filling out other characters is good. More background and depth for the show. The "woke" and "PC" comments by reviewers is very disappointing. Maybe Harry's race should kill us all.

X-Men "Last Stand" is no longer the worse X-Men movie
3 November 2021
I dunno what the producer/director thought the film would look like when finished, but if this meets their expectations, time for find a new line of work.

They took a classic X-Men storyline and turned it into a mess complete with terrible pacing, ridiculous dialogue, and a plot with more holes than a swiss cheese factory. A waste of the acting talents of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence. (My guess is they HAD to make this movie because of contract obligations).

Only watch if your choices are this movie or a dentist drill.

Awright, I will give it a shot-Revised
30 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Pilot episodes are always tough to judge. I will say it moves faster the last year's SciFi show "Debris."

Revised - Now having seen a season and a half, I will say this: 1. Things move quickly story-wise.

2. There is an even number of characters that I like and dislike.

3. The science is ridiculous.

4. And this really bugs me: How come everyone who got stranded in 10,000 B. C. still have clean clothes and are well-groomed? As a black man I find it difficult sometimes to get black hair care in the 21st Century...how does the lone black character keep his hair looking like he just visited the barbershop? Ridiculous! LOL!

FINDING IT'S STRIDE
13 September 2021
The first couple of episodes, while good viewing fun, were not very memorable. That changed with "What If Dr. Strange Lost His Heart..." and "What if the Avengers.... Zombies..."

Some serious sideways story telling...and I really like it. Can't wait to see how the rest of 'em stack up.

Until The Watcher interferes and puts the NY Jets in the Super Bowl, Make Mine Marvel.

ENJOYABLE FUN
29 July 2021
Haters gonna hate. Nevertheless, I liked it. We get the origin angle; a sister who trades barbs and blows on a super hero level; and plenty of action in the Mighty Marvel Manner.

There are times when the acting and dialogue is over-the-top, but so what? It's a comic book movie, ya' need a couple of grins and giggles along the way.

This is the 8th time Scarlett Johansson has played The Widow, and she is really relaxed and comfortable in the role. You can see it.

Florence Pugh (outstanding) and Rachel Weisz (a personal favorite)...great casting choices.

As for the villain...a really bad guy. Sorry, but I couldn't care less about his motivation.

Until Natasha Romanoff trades vodka shots for Truly...Make Mine Marvel.

Way Too Slow
11 July 2021
The concept was good. The storylines passable. The actors, they seemed to get better with each episode. But the pacing...way...too...slow. The music didn't help.

Sit Back and Enjoy a True Heavy Weight Fight!
8 April 2021
Because the Mango Rum-Soaked Balloon Doggies demanded it, my review of "Godzilla vs. Kong!" (No spoilers)

Lemme start by saying, I LOVE MONSTER MOVIES! The more wanton destruction the better. Gimme explosions, buildings and bridges getting demo-ed, and hapless humans running for cover. Speaking of humans, they are NOT THE STARS. They just have to be not so annoying as to stop the movie in it's tracks...or wish they were all dead.

That being said...I LOVED "GODZILLA VS. KONG." It checked all the above boxes, plus some truly great sound effects and graphics. Sure, there are plot holes, but so what? It's the Ali-Frazier "Thrilla' in Manilla" slugfest featuring the two biggest names in the world of giant monsters.

I give it a solid 8 Atomic Breath Blasts!

Taking The Leap to be different and it works
23 February 2021
This is such a different type of MCU it's freaky. And it works. I knew Paul Bettany could act, but I really surprised and estatic that Elizabeth Olsen has shown some serious thespian chops! Kudos to the Marvel creative team that put this show together and in keeping it tight. This ia an very impressive start to the next round in the MCU. Excelsior!!!

Could have been better, but not horrible
1 February 2021
This movie reminded me a lot of the first installment of Thor. There was a lot of things they tried to cram into one movie...plenty of action without the depth. I like Brie Larson, and hopefully Marvel will get more into what makes her tick in future movies. And if they are gonna go cosmic, it's a great chance to see some Marvel characters from beyond (Starjammers, Silver Surfer, etc.).

I will give this franchise another shot.

Relax People, It's Not Supposed To Be Shakespeare
30 July 2020
Yes, it is a remake of a comedy classic, which is always tough. And I know that's an impossibly high bar to meet. So don't try. Don't compare. Just kick back, relax and watch for viewing sake. It ain't a masterpiece, but it does provide sone grins and giggles

It's a dinosaur-chase movie. It's not supposed to be Shakespeare.
20 March 2020
If you like movies with dinosaurs/aliens/monsters chasing people and destroying everything in sight, then you should like this movie. If that type of movie does not float your boat, then don't watch. Simple.

What Were You Expecting? Seriously
7 January 2020
I consider myself a connoisseur of really bad scifi/horror movies, and this flick certainly checks most of the boxes. Cheesy special effects, a script that was written by third graders, and acting straight out of a Saturday Night Live parody. I'm also a fan of Yancy Butler, (she's perfect in bad scifi movies...check out "Basilisk: The Serpent King").

Lake Placid vs. Anaconda...worthy of a rainy day watch with plenty of beers of chips.

Wasted Time I Can't Get Back
24 November 2019
For a team of space explorers this team is really dumb. Between not following basic safety protocols to acting like a bunch of high school freshmen on a field trip, this show blows.

This episode was a clunker. No surpises (too easy to figure out who did it). Okay character development with other characters is the only saving Grace.

Not Bad, Could Have Been Better
13 September 2017
I was extremely psyched to see this Marvel series when it was first announced on NetFlix. For the most part I liked it, however, not to be too picky, but these items could have been better:

1. Less "I am Iron Fist. Only I can destroy The Hand." Yeah, got it the first 25 times.

2. Less "I know there is good in Elecktra" from Daredevil. Yeah, got it the first 30 times.

3. The leaders of the Hand...seriously, all they wanted was more of that "Immortal Living Stuff?" Lame.

4. Climatic ending? Not so much.

"Defenders" was a decent start, hopefully "Defenders2" will have a tighter script and let's hope the writers aren't afraid to let the characters grow and establish more of a relationship with each other.

Better Than I Thought It Would Be
13 September 2017
My expectations were not sky high when I started watching. Most of Seth McFarlane's work goes from really funny to down right mean, sometimes within seconds of each other.

However, at least in the first episode, the comedy was subtle and understated.

Pleasantly surprising and I look forward to upcoming episodes.
