Saw (2004)
Terrible!
31 October 2005
What passes for entertainment with you people? It is full of one-dimensional characters, plot holes, and overall, is simply put, a waste of time. This movie was the most melodramatic piece of fluff that I have ever seen! Underwritten and overacted. Seriously, if you've given this movie more than a '3', take a cold shower, drink some coffee and WAKE UP, and watch it again. Boy do I want my time back. I nearly got up and left a movie for the first time since I was dragged to see 'Curly Sue' at my sister's 8th birthday party over a decade ago. This movie isn't even so bad that it's good. This movie is so bad that it's a waste of time. Carey Elwes, you once had so much potential. Now I can't stand to even look at you. Go work at the Quick Mart man, you're done.

Uptown Girls (2003)
Dull
22 August 2003
Brittany Murphy is a decent actress. This movie was beneath her in every single way. The script was weak, the characters were shallow and far from believable, and the plot (what little that there was of one) went absolutely nowhere. The other thing.... the scene where she jumped in the river... what was up with that? Was she trying to commit suicide? Wouldn't she have chosen something a little higher in a city like New York? She drops down maybe 15 feet. Gimmie a break. It made no sense.

This movie was a bore from beginning to end. When Brittany starts crying in one scene, I couldn't help but laugh. The female friend that I was with that picked this one elbowed me in the ribs, and for me, that was best part of the film: when the pain in my ribs took over from the pain in my eyes, namely, this movie. At least it was someone else's treat. My advice; see something else. ANYTHING ELSE.

Strange.
20 February 2003
I didn't find this movie overly funny, or moving. It just seemed as if I was presented with a short film, and here's a bunch of stuff that happened. It wasn't badly done for a short though, as I've seen far far worse. It would have been better if they had given a little more insight into the characters thereby making the story a little more effective by giving me something to care about. The camera work was great, and the actors did a fine job with what they had to work with. Not a bad effort, but I wouldn't add it to my list of favorites or anything.

Simply Amazing
4 February 2003
This movie, shot mainly in Switzerland and France, was one of the few movies I've seen that lives up to it's billing from it's days as a book. I am more impressed with Matt Damon each time I see him in a new movie. I think that he brings Jason Bourne to life very effectively. The movie flows quite nicely, was well edited and well shot. I'm sure it was difficult filming in Switzerland in the winter, and quite difficult filming in Paris as well. The director makes it look flawless. Franka Potente, who I believe is a real hidden gem as an actress, proves once again that she has global appeal and that her effective performance in the movie "Blow" was no fluke. What I really enjoyed about The Bourne Identity was the action sequences. For some reason, most Hollywood movies over-do these parts of the film to compensate for a weak story. The Bourne Identity doesn't rely on them at all, as the story would probably flow just fine without them, however they are well acted, well choreographed, yet not the focus of the film. I personally hope that there is a sequel.

Perfect score.

Vanilla Sky (2001)
Thought Provoking
2 January 2003
For some reason, I can't stop watching this movie. It's been on Canadian pay television for the past couple of months now, and I can't seem to turn it off. I'm not normally a big fan of Penelope Cruz, but for some reason, I find her character, Sophia, just enchanting. Jason Lee is also one of my favorite actors from the Kevin Smith movies, and I find that he's great as a leading actor, but really puts out a solid supporting role in Vanilla Sky. Cameron Diaz really shows her range as Cruise's wannabe girlfriend, a big stretch from her normal loveable roles. The plot is okay, but what really makes Vanilla Sky watchable is the performances and dialogue.

Bad.

This movie was a snore. The plot was full of holes, the premise was far-fetched at best, and the acting was very mediocre. The last 10 minutes of this move, especially the part with the magazines right at the end was completely silly. Who buys a magazine about hotel managers!? If you're thinking of seeing this, don't.

Best Movie of the 80's.
28 December 2002
I watched this again recently. I hadn't seen it in years. The story is still entertaining after all these years. Christopher Lloyd was genius as Doc, Crispin Glover plays a great George McFly and of course Michael J. Fox as Marty. All actors were wonderful. If you haven't seen this movie in a while, rent it, especially if you had your adolescence in the 80's, at the very least, you'll be able to say "ohmygosh! look at the hair on those people!!!". Great film, perfect score.

Very Good
3 December 2002
I'm not big on sequels. I'll make an exception for this one. The story is interesting, the effects are great and the three central characters (Harry, Ron and Hermonie) are well cast and well played. Very rarely do I want to see a movie in theatres twice. I'll go and see this one again given the chance.

Psycho-analytical B.S.
14 October 2002
The Bubble-Boy can act. I'll give him that. I didn't think much of him as an actor before I saw this movie. The rest of this movie was un-realistic, and overly psycho-analytical. It might have made an alright book, but I didn't believe Hoffman's character, and is it just me or does it seem like Sarandon has one character, and they cast her two or three times a year?

I didn't like this movie, as the plot went nowhere and I as much as I wanted to, I just couldn't care about these people.

Talking to Americans (2001 TV Special)
Brilliant.
26 July 2002
Only could someone with the comic timing and wonderful delivery such as Rick Mercer come up with a piece of work so enlightening. This is funny enough to bring tears to your eyes, yet as sad a piece as I've ever seen, exposing our neighbours to the south for the ignorance that they all seem to posess.

Almost as good as I remembered.
4 March 2002
I was searching through old videos, looking for something to record the hockey final on, and I cam across a tape, dusty and barely a step beyond BetaMax, labeled "B.R.A.T. Patrol". I decided to put that one aside for nostalgia sake. Later that week, I was bored, so I decided to put the tape in, hoping that it may catch my interest for a couple of hours. I loved this movie when I was eleven. It was the coolest thing in the world to me. After watching it again, the clothes are a little dated, but very little else seems cheezy. The military still wears similar uniforms, and the vehicles have also changed very little, if at all. It was kinda fun to look back at this movie that I used to adore, and still see a little bit of fun from when I was a little kid. Disney made a great movie here, and if you've got a 5-10 year old to amuse for an afternoon and you happen to come across this movie, pop it in. You might be surprized.

Not very intelligent, but not without entertainment
7 February 2002
I don't know why, but I didn't hate this movie. Maybe it was because I was just in the mood for something stupid, or maybe it was because of Majandra Delfino's long legs, but it was worth a smile or two. This movie might not win any awards, but if you want to see something kinda light, go for it. If you're looking for something that's going to be interesting, deep or meaningful, rent something else.

Run Lola Run (1998)
Sehr Gut
7 February 2002
Rented it yesterday. Bought it today. Wow. What an amazing film. I loved this movie from beginning to end. The characters are interesting, the music sets the perfect tone, and the acting is believable, and it really captures modern urban Germany accurately. I especially like the flash forwards of the people that she passes (The guy on the bike, the lady in the bank, etc.) I don't understand the crap on a stick guy. I disagree with his opinion because I believe that this is an original idea, the cinematography was wonderful, and the movie worked on so many levels. 10/10. Great job.

Buy this movie. AND DESTROY IT!
2 February 2002
I rented this movie. I'm going to go and buy this movie. Then I'm going to take this movie, and destroy it in my fireplace so that there is one less copy of this godforsaken movie in circulation. If I could get my $5.74 and my two hours back from the movie rental place, I would. It made the grade nine sex ed video look like sesame street. No one should ever be video taped at that angle. I reccomend chewing off your own arm and beat yourself with it - it'll be less painful.

Run away guys!
30 January 2002
Warning: Spoilers
Aside from being about 40 minutes TOO LONG, this movie was filled with the usual tripe that some people label "issues". These "issues" have been done ad nauseum, and really didn't need to be dealt with again. The actors put in a couple of decent scenes, but the movie on a whole is boring, and was filled with "I'm soooo depressed... let's dance!" to paraphrase. Save your time, save your money and rent something else. This film fails on so many levels. Julia Styles is way too melodramatic and the gang scenes are very forced and sterotyped. Even the "romantic hero", Sean Patrick Thomas puts on the bad boy hat for about two scenes, and then runs to Julliard to cheer on his girlfriend. A ballet dancing gang member. Right. It just doesn't work. The girlfriend might enjoy this one for a rental for the so called romantic story, but it holds no entertainment value as far as the plot or acting is concerned.

Rent Finding Forrester. You'll get alot more out of it.
