Gunsmoke: Morgan (1970)
Season 15, Episode 23

All time favourite.
22 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This has to be my all time favourite episode of "Gunsmoke" and I would go so far as to say my all time favourite TV western episode. This episode says, "To hell with the code of the west." Matt Dillon is seen only in the last few minutes and he shocks the residents of Dodge City when he is challenged to a gunfight where he is told to draw on the count of 3. Matt draws and kills the gunman on the count of 2. The reasoning being that he would never have outdrawn this particular gunslinger and he had every right to shoot him because he was threatening an officer of the law. What a shock to poor Festus et al. I love this kind of thing.

What an eye-opener!
24 October 2005
I have just been watching this for a second time on cable TV here in Australia and I enjoyed it just as much as I did the first time. Full marks to Robert Lindsay as Fagin...but what an eye-opener for me was Edward Leeford/Monks played by Marc Warren. I thought to myself, "Where has this guy been hiding?" but then looking at his profile on IMDb he has done - and is doing - so much work that I can't believe that I've only just noticed him. No-one has made this much of an impression on me since I was awakened to the talents of Tim Roth. Who will be the next brilliant actor - male or female - to come out of hiding and surprise us all?

Classic Sci-Fi (or is it Sci-Fi?)
23 February 2004
This obviously low budget production is one of the all time classics in the Sci-Fi genre. The only other movie about intelligent computers that I can think of was THE DEMON SEED but this one is more convincing. To see the computer doing battle with its makers (and winning) is quite a frightening prospect and to see a computer becoming so intelligent and aware of itself that it demands the love of its maker was a great but thought-provoking ending. May the Force make us truly thankful that it was only a screen-play.

Worth a watch.
23 April 2003
I have been reading many of the comments made here-in and I think that most of them are over the top. Obviously it can't be compared with the original movie but I am not going to go into great detail or attempting to analyse it. I just think that Tim Roth was brilliant.

The Duellists (1977)
Beautiful.
29 October 2002
I had seen this movie on a video many years ago and I didn't think much of it. I have again seen it on cable and what a difference. I have long been an admirer of Ridley Scott's work, particularly his attention to composition details in the photography. I noticed in the credits that Scott was actually the camera operator. What can one say? Every frame was like an oil painting. The use of colour and weather were magnificent. How about those shots of the frozen soldiers? Yes, viewing this movie again in a decent media has thrown a totally new light on it. I have seen quite a few movies that were visually beautiful and this is one of them. Worth watching just for that.

Delightful!
29 August 2002
My wife Rebecca is a fan of Ray Liotta so when this movie appeared on cable TV it had to be viewed. And what a surprise! The rapport between Ray and Whoopi Goldberg was very noticable. I don't know if it is so but there seemed to be a considerable amount of ad lib-ing. Some of the things that happened on screen could not have been scripted or the director's instructions. And the rapport between Whoopi and Molly (Tina Majorino later to be seen in "Waterworld") was just as impressive. But the theme of two minority groups (Jewish and Negro) coming together in the way they did was done in absolutely good taste and a delight to any liberal thinking viewers. It could have become a weepie but, for sure, I'm glad it didn't. I can't wait to see it again.

How Unusual!
16 July 2002
What can one say about this movie? Unusual to say the least! First off, all the cast use their real names. Secondly, it is loaded with black humour. (Was it meant to be funny? It must have been.) and finally, what a great musical soundtrack of songs from the early 70s actually sung by the cast themselves. (A bit of talent there as well). Although the violence was there, it was intimated rather than visual. The characters were all good even if a little tongue-in-cheek but generally speaking it was good entertainment. I didn't realise what was going on until it suddenly dawned upon me, "Don't take it too seriously!" so I just sat back and enjoyed it. Can't wait to see it on cable again.

The Great Gold Swindle (1984 TV Movie)
8/10
Interesting!?
11 June 2002
Wednesday, June 12 2002. The date of this comment is relevant. This is a most interesting and not overplayed movie concerning the Mickelburg brothers. Realising that this is a mostly dramatised version of the original caper, it always appeared to me that there was something wrong with the whole concept of the swindle. Now in the light of recent events which have occurred here in Australia today there is now reasonable doubt that the brothers, who always maintained their innocence, actually committed the crime. Nevertheless, it is a movie worth a watch. John Hargreaves put in his usual good performance as did the rest of the cast who are all well known here in Australia. See it if you get the opportunity.

A recommendation.
24 May 2002
When the Ozzies make a good movie, they make a good movie and this is one of them. Although the story-line may be a bit touchy for some, particularly our female audiences, it has to be seen to appreciate the good solid performances by Kerry McGuire and Nick Tate. Although it is humourous, it does not make light of the story line, indeed, it is quite touching. My wife and I both enjoyed it and we recommend its viewing to anyone who gets a chance to see it. It makes a change to see a movie like this that wasn't turned into a sick weepie.
