Black Beauty (1971)
Did any reviewers read the book?
This was such a disappointment. In fact I couldn't even go beyond halfway before turning it off. Glad I only paid 99 cents for it. This strays so far from the book that it's a joke. Black Beauty tells the story in the book. The friendship between Black Beauty and Ginger is central but Ginger barely gets a mention. Started off so we'll with the beautiful Dutchess giving birth then down hill all the way from there. So basically rubbish. I suppose if you haven't read the book it's passable given all the good reviews, but I grew up with this story and I'm going to read the book again because the book is excellent. I can't write 600 words about this. Nothing good to say. It's a terrible movie and has nothing to do with the book but is spruiked as a "faithful adaptation". Obviously even the Director hadn't read the book.
For Queen & Country (1988)
24 hours later I'm still affected by this moving fil
I mainly watched this because I'm a big fan of Denzel Washington. He did not disappoint. Beyond the magnificent acting of the entire cast this film is bleak in it's raw truth. Ultimately we are just pawns of the rich. No matter what you sacrifice that's still all you are. A young man risks his life for what he believes is his country and gets a few trinkets. His best friend loses his leg. Soldiers are the fodder of the elite. When they are of no further use they are cast aside and forgotten. Look how many veterans are homeless. Denzel was brilliant in this film. If you get a chance you should watch it.
