The Way (II) (2024)

weird (but watchable?)
20 February 2024
A very strange drama.. I started watching the first episode and almost gave up as it made no sense, was full of plot holes, inconsistencies, impossibilities, non sequiturs etc. But then i persevered as it became car crash tv... i had to watch just to see how it would pan out.

I can see from the other reviews that it is marmite tv. People either love it or hate it. For those that love it there is an element of "emperors new clothes". There was some good acting, some poor overacting. Loved Sheen's cameo. The whole thing seemed to be a dramatic equivalent to Sheen's speech to the Welsh football team from a couple of years ago (check it on you tube).

Worth watching - you might like it. If you forget about the logic of the plot and appreciate the visuals it is interesting... the equivalent of eating magic mushrooms.

After the Flood (2024– )
4/10
standard ITV type drama
11 January 2024
Got as far as episode 3 and i am seriously struggling. Usual collection of ITV drama actors playing this like it was a soap opera. Plot could be interesting but too many holes, coincidences and unbelievable occurrences to make it worth staying with. Also too much personal detail and character building that is irrelevant to the plot but would be appropriate for a soap. Even the geography is unbelievable - a town that is set in a moorland valley which is likely to flood yet contains a container port? However Glossop is the one thing that is watchable. I also dislike eco themes being shoved into scripts. Sure there are problems with flooding due to the inaction of the environment agency but does this need mentioning so often.

Brilliant

A superb addition to the existing ripper dramas and documentaries as this shows a new perspective, as it features back stories for the victims, an area that has been neglected, and provides a lot of details which are new to me. It also shows the incompetence and sexism of the police as well as the difficulties and limits of their capabilities. For example the desperation of sitting in cars taking registrations takes me back as I was interviewed at the time (having innocently driven though the areas of interest). It was a harrowing time for everybody who lived in the area and this is depicted well.

Rogue Heroes (2022–2024)
10/10
cracking yarn based on fact
4 November 2022
On the same night that this series started on BBC1, BBC4 showed the "SAS: Rogue Warriors" , the documentary made by Ben Macintyre based on his book. I would suggest that viewers watch this first as this is fascinating and gives context and includes interviews with many of the main characters.

As to the drama, superbly acted with good special effects. Sure, artistic licence taken but still believable and the dialogue was appropriate for the characters Also as per Peaky Blinders, the use of music is brilliant. The Damned!, Motorhead! Wow, Anyway, binge watched the whole series and thoroughly enjoyed it.

interesting ........but not perfect
20 April 2022
Having just binge watched all four episodes, this was rather enjoyable. Sure its a little confusing, and it seems that some of the "lives" in the book have been omitted, but inclusion may have over complicated. I did think the narration was necessary and understated.

Overall, well acted (the Ursula character particularly) , well made, needs concentrations and occasional rewind to catch up on missed plot lines.

Certainly worth watching and better than a lot of the drama series currently being put out.

surprisingly good

Was intending to watch something else vie firestick and this film started. I thought John Wick.. but no one was killed. then the title came up, i checked it out an thought why not. As a miserable b*st*rd who long since gave up on relationships. i empathised with the characters and enjoyed the banter - and as a two hander it worked. Needs concentration to follow the dialogue and Reeve's wheezy voice .
