You Hurt My Feelings (2023)
The white lies we tell
A great movie exploring the little white lies we tell in marriage to keep the peace and not hurt the other's feelings.
It centres on a white lie Don tells regarding his wife's book. She catches him out and is devastated. But the way it explores her offence, the impact and when and when not it is ok to lie is cleverly done.
Don, an average therapist, has clients who lie regarding their experiences of his therapy. Even when caught out they still lie.
This movie is like a mirror in which you can see yourself and the white lies you tell to preserve harmony, save face and so on.
I highly recommend this film.
Vivarium (2019)
Ambivalent
Interesting from the start. Certainly pulls you in from the opening scene. As soon as they're lost, edge of the seat stuff.
But the depiction of the child they raise and his idiosyncrasies, and the bleakness of their situation, makes the film so depressing to watch. It becomes stranger and stranger to watch.
It reaches its peak by the middle, and then struggles toward a finish.
The film is psychedelic in a sense. Full of other worldly imagery and scenarios that are so strange. It actually just doesn't make sense. I'm not actually sure what the point of it actually was.
But it was still such an interesting concept..hence I said ambivalent for my title.
Once Upon a Time in Londongrad (2022)
Pretty disappointing
I made it through the first 45 mins of long, meandering explanations from an array of journalists............................but the trailer was good.
