Psychotic TreeHuggers from Outer Space! is the title I would have chosen
2 November 2007
Warning: Spoilers
The conservation oath was a suicide pact..who knew? Visually and appealing movie and that was about it for me. Soundtrack was as out of place as a polka band at a funeral. 45 minutes too long and it ground down to a study in intergalactic botany. Joy! Decent actors and a lousy script. You want to protect something so whats your solution? Blow it up with your coworkers in it! I like my ferns to but thats a stretch. I did like the environments and some of the themes were compelling. For its time a good step for SF in keeping the space theme moving forward and away from giant insects. I will watch it again just for the corduroy jumpsuits, beats polyester on any planet. Worth watching.

Pretty decent for his early work and no Kokaku Kidotai without it, and gets an 2 points extra for the easter eggs. For Shirow definitely a rung in the ladder. I am biased as a Shirow fan but this was a big step from Dirty Pair which was what I knew of him. Violent fun with a porno soundtrack! You cannot help but notice that. I know people appreciate him for Ghost in the Shell..but all of the deep spiritual overtones were dealt with in Appleseed. ESWAT killing terrorists, the struggle for humans to stay viable as bioroids phase them out, and Deunan staying thin despite her intake of junk food. Definitely like the characters even the traitor..and I do not know why.

Definitely back to basics

Batman Begins took the hint..this short made the three before it look worse than they did before..and I did not think that was possible. No ice skates in the bat boots..no Riddler (aka Riddilin) acting like a 6 year old who drank 2 gallons of mountain dew; despite the character he was playing was as a thinker not a spaz. Basically this made Batman look like a real person who has money to spend on toys and knows how to fight...I like it! The Koenig kid was convincing minus some bad coaching. His lines were a little off..the Joker I read growing up is more colorful. He did not write them so not his fault..but good..he looked nuts. Give this director a budget and I think he would be dangerous. If you get one..keep it gritty..keep it real..less Twister and more Oz! Angry this was not a trailer because I was looking forward to the movie.

Weird Anime Excel Saga (1999–2001)

Flawless

This is one that keeps finding its way into my media player despite how long ago I first viewed it. It is Family Guy for anime and jpop culture. If you are savvy on that from the early 70's to present you will enjoy plenty of easter eggs, plus its scategorical humor and slapstick which rivals the Stooges and Urusei Yatsura. The voice actors and characters are well developed to with good animation The writers looked like they were on the ropes about 10 episodes into the series but its a ropeadope! They come out swinging and landing them. I tried listening to the dub once and will be burned at the stake before I try that again. The English speaking actress can not pull it off. It doesn't stop to explain itself and takes constant shots at its creators, its genre, fans, and everything in general. I dig it! Stupid fun for the whole family. Highly recommended.
