Lover (2023)
EPIC!
Stumbling into "My Dearest" late one evening after reading about it in Reddit was pure fate. It would be harmless to view one episode. I'll add it to my watchlist if it's got promise. Weekly.
I was wrong. I was captivated immediately. Was it the incredible OST? The dazzling cinematography? Was it that the characters were people I grew to know and love ? The detail and the care of the costumes and sets had to be the cause of my relentless binge, right? I am sure it was the exquisite writing./ storytelling. Characters spoke in fluent "poetry" which I had to hear to learn. The script was an epic masterpiece.
I savored the experience and maturity of the actors. They delivered their characters with gut wrenching authenticity. Their glances, looks, mutual affection and controlled emotions drew me into medieval Korean culture. Amazing.
The deeper story of war, politics, history and people entwined in chaos that they did not author but in which they are subjected too was incredible. I reflected on global chaos 2024 . Human change and growth move at a snail's pace. Living a full authentic life regardless of circumstance is the challenge.
Thank you previous commenters. Your expressions of love for "My Dearest" echo my own. Compelled to watch the last episode a second time I found my self crying with the characters at the incredible, conclusion of their epic journey.
Our Blues (2022)
Caring Always
"Our Blues " is superb. The format weaves you into the life of an eclectic community on Jeju Island. You begin to know them and care for the characters because you are a part of the community as well. Flawed, imperfect, struggling with past and future they keep going. You do too.
The production is beautiful. It is a sensory attack that keeps your ears, eyes happy. While watching I felt the wind in my face. I could "smell and taste" the broth and ramen.
I smiled, cried, laughed, and shouted with the characters in each episode. I will continue to reflect and share the heart, courage and hope that I witnessed in this community.
