Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001)
Don't miss it!!
Forget about gender arguments, gays, lesbians..whatever. It's a KICK ASS movie, end of story. This is one of the most inventive, well directed and acted, beautifully crafted pieces of film you will ever seen. If you're into wonderful rock music from the 70's, glam and punk rock and actually a good story with lots of depth to boot, don't miss the chance to check out this movie. Hat's off to John Cameron Mitchell and the amazing work of Stephen Trask on the music. Me and my wife never felt this good after watching a movie!
Day of the Sirens (2002)
C'mon people, this is getting ridiculous!
First you have this "a-sin" with this movie and another one called Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in their review list, then you have this "captain_curthers" with this one and another called Little England.. and surprise surprise..They're all movies from the same company: Boudicca! Then you have a bunch of people with a single review in their list submitting the same review twice here. This is so stupid. If you want to promote your little movies, there's tons of other ways to do it than faking reviews in IMDB. By the way..The Movie is OK. Average. Nothing more. No big deal and definitely not an 8.7 movie, but that's just me being stupid...
R.S.V.P. (2002)
It's a crime allright..
It's a crime to compare this to anything that even resembles Hitchcock! Are you people out of your mind? This ought to be the most obvious and predictable thriller in the recent years.. A bunch of people regurgitating "witty" remarks all the time, and AT the same time hardly make up for entertainment in my book. And throwing Jason Mewes in there to act like a retarded Jay without Silent Bob (i guess that's the only role he can play) was the low of the lowest. And the ending..well..let's just all forget that the whole thing existed and live a better life.
The Discovery of Heaven (2001)
Not THAT good
I must have seen a completely different movie, because I cannot identify in any level with most of the comments here. What work of art? The movie is boring, the acting is contrived at best and the only redeeming factor would be that the story itself is great, but unfortunately it was transformed in a 127 minutes borefest. To be completely fair, the movie has its moments, mostly on the first half hour when you anticipate everything that is supposed to happen and you get to know the characters and the storyline, but then..nothing else! I really had high hopes on this movie mostly based on the IMDB reviews, but I learned a lesson. Obviously oppinions are very subjective, but I still wonder why such a high grade for a very flawed movie..
Equilibrium (2002)
Nearly Perfection
This is one of those films destined to last in your memory. Amazing story, breathtaking photography and a performance nearly perfection by Adrian Bale. What blew my mind in this movie was the amazing action sequences cleverly constructed almost entirely with cinematography skills in detriment of the overuse of special effects, and the fact that the film have very little cliches. Every turn is a surprise and a good one for that matter. Forget about the silly Matrix comparisons. This is a movie that stands on it own and if you like a good story and superb action don't miss it for the world.
Spider (2002)
shure sleeper..
Don't get me wrong, I love Cronenberg's work, especially the old ones, but this one gets way too much credits than it deserves.. Miranda Richardson is awesome as usual, but Ralph Fiennes is incredibly annoying with his constant contrived *i want an award* mumbling. The story is pretty shallow and basic, and the first 50 minutes will shure induce some sleep. If you pass it, the plot will develop a little bit after that, but don't expect too much, unless you like to be treated with "hold your horses. we're better than you" stuff. In that case this is your movie.
Honogurai mizu no soko kara (2002)
Superb in every aspect
This movie is scary in two very distinct ways. One is the main ghost story, amazingly told with a masterful photography and perfect settings. The other is the drama of human relationships and loss intertwined in the plot in such a manner that the outcome is simply perfect. IMHO, the comparisons that some reviewers made to Ringu or even Shining are just plain silly. Hideo Nakata is a gifted filmmaker and have his own amazing style and, if you like the genre, Dark Water is a piece of art that no one should miss.
The Collingswood Story (2002)
Entangling and clever piece of art.
The proof that you REALLY don't need all those millions to make good entertainment. This low budget gem has it all. A clever script, believable characters, a very good background story and it is fast paced enough for no one to lose interest in it along the way.
If you liked Blair Witch (and you will be comparing this one with it more than once) you will love The Collingswood Story.
Those big-shot moviemakers in Hollywood have a LOT to learn with Michael Constanza.
Don't miss it!
