Mr & Mme Adelman (2017)
Stalker's failure
The woman is a stalker, at least, how we understand it in the 21st century. How many times did she need to be rejected to understand that it was not her"cup of tea"? She was chasing the man who did not like her and ended up with her only because it was beneficial for him. She was a much better writer than he was. It was a long marriage with its "ups and downs", but Sarah never accomplished what she deserved. True love. It is not clear why she decided to come back. With any hope that he will treat her better or just for a revenge? It is a very bitter story about a woman without any self-respect. There are a lot of unpleasant moments in the movie. Doria Tillier is very convincing in the role that is quite disturbing.
On a failli être amies (2014)
Hardly a comedy
This movie is not a romantic comedy. It is a story of two middle-aged women at crossroads. A few moments that are supposed to be funny are not played well. Either the screen play was not good and dialogs were not written well or the roles are not suitable for the two very well known actresses. Roschdy Zen is more convincing in his role, but cannot make it much more interesting to watch. If it is supposed to be ironic it is not easy to understand what the irony is about. The movie is shallow compared to a great number of French comedies from 1970-1980-ies. Moreover, in the past there was something thought-provoking in the French comedies with Richard or Belmondo. It is missing now.
Polina, danser sa vie (2016)
Nothing new about ballet-spoilers
The movie plot is very weak. It is well know how high is the competition in very prestigious ballet schools. Unfortunately, parents sometimes are eager for their daughters to become ballet dancers much more than their children. This is the case in the movie. After years and years of hard work the young ballet dancer decides to forget about her training and to start a career in contemporary dances for which she did not need 10 years of classical ballet training. The young ballerina is a self-centered daughter who is not grateful for her parents sacrifice to pay for her education. No matter what the movie director wanted to prove I see only a warning for parents who have to make too much sacrifice for nothing. Ballet is either for very gifted individuals who are admitted to prestigious academies on scholarships or for children from rich families who do not mind to dance a white swan in the third line of the corps.
