Wish (2023)
Wish has terrible writing and gives off a terrible message.
First few minutes I was interested. The idea of everyone having a wish seems dangerous. So I sympathized with the villain. I expected the struggle to grant everyone's wishes would lead to undesired outcome that the girl would have to fix. In doing so becoming the villain herself as her selfishness would have brought disaster and I thought the king would be proved right and the girl's selfishness would lead to the king sacrificing himself to save everyone. Teaching the girl a lesson about stealing and maintain order. It would have been a good twist if the initial villain ended up being the good guy after all and the girls action would make her the villain. Then there could have been a redemption arc for her in the final act. The Star could have been some type of neutral being that ended up becoming evil due to all the negative wishes overpowering the good wishes. Then there could have been that one pure heart wish that overpowered all the bad wishes and restoring the stars position to either neutral or good. The premise was there. It could have been so good. But none of that happened.
In this movie the girl is perfect she cannot do any wrong. She has no hero's journey. Everyone in the story is perfect except the main villain and he wouldn't have been corrupted if not for the girls actions. What she did to him was basically entrapment. I lesson I got from this movie is stealing is ok if it's for family. No one is capable of making bad wishes. Which is not true. If I was or anyone had the power to grant wishes we too would be worried about handing out wishes like candy. I think any one with common sense would know how dangerous that can be. What ever happened to the old school Disney movies That had consequences for your actions. Those were some real lessons. The queens actions in the end are criminal. The king never imprisoned any one. He never robbed them of their freedom but she did. She basically sentenced him to die. For guarding wishes.
The star thing was cute tho. That thing is going to sell merchandise. The animation was good. The songs won't be classics. They're forgettable. The only characters that have good design are the king and the star.
Skinamarink (2022)
This would of been better as a 15 min short
At first I was enjoying this movie. I expected it to be scary. It wasn't really and eventually it got boring. Just when I had my fill there was still like way to much of the movie left. It has no business being this long. Most of the scenes in this film are highly irrelevant. They're just filler for atmosphere. Although the atmosphere presented was intense it over stayed its welcome. I don't regret watching this movie but I would not recommend it and will never watch it again. It did however make me feel like the concept might be nice to see if better executed in a shorter movie. If you chose to watch this movie. Just know the entire movie is just how the beginning is. You never really see any actors at all. Just empty rooms with voices. Specifically the children in question. It does not flesh out into anything bigger at all. If you do not feel the movie 30 minutes in, don't expect it to change. It will not.
Black Adam (2022)
Entertaining
I enjoyed the beginning. The kid is most cheesy part of the movie. Can't writers write cool kids anymore like terminator 2 judgement days John Connor? Every scene with this kid is cringe. The final part of the movie was too decisive. Not much story to tell anymore after the beginning it became too much action it lost its depth. Although the action was alright I could see why it was originally intended to be rated R. Deaths right and left. Also too many slow motion scenes. Way too many and zero explanation how Black Adam speaks fluent English with not at least an accent. In fact everyone speaks English except for the scenes in ancient times. I believe they're to supposed to be in the Middle East but everyone just speaks English with no accent. Otherwise it's still a decent movie. I would give it a 7.7 but I'm rounding up to an 8/10.
Resident Evil (2022)
Unacceptable
You'd expect quality of this magnitude sci-if channel early 2000s. This show is 20 years too late in production quality. IPhones make better videos. How do such low quality work get made these days? Are these being filmed with front facing cameras?
Hwan Hon (2022)
3 episodes so far
The camera work is little weird. It's almost low budget but high budget. Doesn't give you that in depth, immersive feeling. Maybe it's the lighting?
The show is entertaining though so far for what it is. A foreign show.
Some of the interactions can be a little too humorous/ borderline flirting in an uncanny way.
Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area (2022)
Exact replica but in a different country.
Same idea, a man refereed by professor. I'm serious exact same. Who gathers a group and wear the exact outfits. Even the exact same plans to fool the police.
Hollywood Stargirl (2022)
The first was better
The second movie shouldn't have been made or at least they should of made it less corny. The relationship star girl had with the producer seemed inappropriate. Every scene felt like he shouldn't be friendly with this high school girl. The way she acts too is so corny in real life you would think something is wrong with her mental development and the way she acts so carefree seems almost borderline promiscuous. She goes around meeting new people and being overly friendly getting into cars with strangers, accepting gifts from strangers, kissing a stranger romantically for a movie she magically got tossed into. The black people in the movie felt like they were written by white writers. They were the whitest portrayal of black men I ever seen in my life. I'm from LA and the hipster type black people I run into which I think is what they tried portraying in this movie don't act like that. I started getting a workout in the movie. Finished my workout 10 minutes before the movie ended and shut it off to take a shower. I saw the majority of the movie.
Bel-Air (2022)
Lost sulking reviews on here for a strong start
By reading the low ratings on this It seems like people wanted a carbon copy of the original show. With exact same script and dialogue. This is a reboot not a remake and it's rebooted to be more darker and more realistic. The actors portray how youths would act cause high schoolers in fact do start beef over small things and carry grudges.
Production is really good high quality camera work. The atmosphere is also inviting. The dialogue is what you'd expect people would say.
I don't expect phd level conversations and conversations but rather small talks that drive the story forward with dilemmas that grow complicated over the season. 3 episodes in and I'm already interested in the encounter with the gang member WILL is escaping from.
