The Creator (2023)
Worth your money
The Creator is an original, well made film which keeps you entertained for the entirety of its run time. The production design and CGI are as good as they can get for an 80 million dollar budget and the film never feels cheap. Great performance from all the actors involved and the cinematography is great. Hans Zimmer's score was decent and did its job. While the film seems fairly original, there are visible inspirations taken from other sci-fi films and the last quarter of the film is rushed and not so different from a typical sci-fi movie climax we've already seen a hundred times. Overall it's one of the best sci-fi's of the year and I would definitely recommend it.
Knock at the Cabin (2023)
M stands for Mid-Tier
This film is well made and well acted. The technical aspects of filmmaking doesn't disappoint and the cinematography has the classic shyamalan touch. Great performances from everyone accross the board with special mention to Dave Batista and the young actress Kristen Cui. The movie does have an interesting premise which I don't think was fully utilised. The story does grip you, the dialogue is really good in quite a few scenes and there are some legit tense moments spread throughout the film but half-way through the movie you can easily predict the only two ways in which the story could end and you will be correct. The ending is predictable but knowing Shyamalan's history with endings you would still be waiting in suspense for something big to happen which eventually never will. Overall it's a Mid-Tier shyamalan film which doesn't blow you away but it does keep you hooked for an hour and a half. Worth a watch.
Kantara (2022)
Nice attempt, but.....
First of all Kantara is well shot and well acted. We can see every rupee spent on the film and it doesn't look like a low budget film. The story is gripping(until the 3rd act) and is grounded for most part of the film. My biggest issues are with the typical unrealistic fights in the film and super predictable and lame climax which we have already seen a thousand time in Indian Cinema. The arc of the relationship between the Hero and his father is rushed and unimpactful. The only thing the father does throughout the film is Jump scare the hero a couple of times and all of a sudden the hero becomes a messenger of God out of thin air and now shares a good relationship and understanding with his father as they dance and vanish together in the final shot. The entire arc of the villian is boring ,super predictable and nothing new. But despite the flaws the film has some good scenes and Ideas which were explored well. The groundedness and the risks they took with the slow screenplay should be appreciated. Overall it's a decent film with an interesting but also predictable story. One time watch.
The Adam Project (2022)
It's much better than what it's supposed to be
The Adam project has a pretty basic sci-fi time travelling story line which would've sounded super cool 30 years ago. This film gave me "Moonfall" vibes which felt like it was supposed to be made 25 years ago. But.....this movie surprised me. It was funny, engaging and emotional. There are some situations(or scenes) that needed to be more serious than they are to make the film even more compelling but this movie does get serious when it's supposed to get serious and it does get emotional when it's supposed to get emotional. All the character arcs ended well and the ending of the film is really good and satisfying. I wouldn't say this is a masterpeace or anything of that sort but this is a good film that deserves your time and attention.
Jigeum uri hakgyoneun (2022)
Good time pass but repetitive and sometimes Logicless
Talking about the positives the series has good characters, story, suspence and a new type of zombies that can be called as half zombies. The show is suspenseful from beginning to the end and won't really bore you cause there are many interesting events that happen in each episode that makes you wanna watch the next episode. However the show is quite repetitive in terms of the zombie encounters and the way they deal with the zombies sometimes is both senseless and impractical. Also the show uses quite a few "fake" Encounters and incidents to lure the audience to the next episode. The climax of the show is good but it leaves a lot of questions that needs to be answered but at the same time it seems unnecessary to make another season just to answer those questions cause those questions aren't that interesting to make people wanna watch another season. Overall it's a good way to pass your free time.
The Empty Man (2020)
Brilliant but Not everyone's cup of Tea
The Empty Man is an highly ambiguous and a daring attempt to make a horror film that is Original, disturbing and thought provoking. First of all It is not everyone's cup of tea. The film is thought provoking and intense to those who take the time to understand it and look at it in its purest form. It is not a regular horror movie with jump scares. It rather scares you with the themes and ideas that surrounds the story. A must watch for aspiring Film Makers and those who are genuinely looking for a highly original, daring and ambiguous film that stays true to it's story without Compromising one bit.
Shimmer Lake (2017)
Worth a try
Overall it's a decent film with good performances from everyone. The reverse screen play was well used but the story and the way events unfolded could've been better. Unlike memento it was very easy to follow even tho being more confusing and eventful couldve served the film better. I had fun time watching it.
Don't Look Up (2021)
It is what it wanted to be,but......
Don't look up won't bore you and is entertaining till the very end but it feels like the world created by the film is more unrealistic than it should be and that spoiled the ending for me. Overall it's a really good time pass.
