Barracuda Queens (2023– )

Nostalgia Lost
17 March 2024
The characters were all generally unlikeable but I'm guessing that was the intention. Mia was the character I liked the most. Probably because she was not the spoilt rich kid but she just hung around them to try and be like them. She seemed the most real.

The unhappy swinging couples that were the parents was something I really didn't understand. I'm guessing they were showing that just because people have money it doesn't necessarily make them happy. It was just weird.

While it was set in 1995, and there was elements of the 90s included like Roxette playing in the background and the Saab 9-3 convertible, the fashion/hair styles seemed very modern and didn't really feel 90s.

Overacted and overdramatised
17 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It's started off okay and then unfortunately went a bit far-fetched. It is interesting if you live in Brisbane to see and hear place names of the city, but really, the nostalgia only takes this show so far. Many of the scenes were unrealistic and far-fetched, especially the fight scene, the ex convict comes to save the family from Teddy, he just comes out of nowhere. The overdramatised clocktower scene at the end was way too much for me, and Eli breaking into the prison to see his mother on Christmas day was way far-fetched.

Simon Baker was good in this and the young Eli was a brilliant actor, but I really didn't enjoy the series much at all.

Rita (2012–2020)

Love love love it
28 December 2023
Love love love Rita. When I first started watching it I thought she was this foul, arrogant, disgusting woman that was addicted to cigarettes. But continue watching and you see that this harsh, gruff manner is only a barrier that she's put up to protect herself. Under all that she is a sweet and thoughtful person with a lot of issues. This is why I enjoyed the show so much. We all have layers and we aren't all completely "what you see is what you get". Rita was real. No airs or graces. Just Rita.

Loved how awkward Hjørdis was. Even she struggled being Rita's friend but even she could see how good a person she really was.

Yes, Rita is a tragic mess at times but I loved her. I still flick through Netflix and when I see Rita I always think "awww Rita".

Also, has one of catchiest theme songs.

The Nurse (2023)

Some great Danish acting
28 December 2023
Great acting!

Josephine Park and Fanny Louise Bernth were excellent together.

Being a nurse I can't believe there was no register of what drugs were being taken. Knowing how strict it is where I work, it's astonishing. We only have to accidentally drop a diazepam on the floor and we are on our hands and knees frantically looking for it. I'm sure this has changed in Denmark.

The only real negative that I found was that it sort of dragged on a bit until the last 20 or so minutes in the last episode and it all sort of wrapped up and was finished. It's based on a true story, which always gives an element of shock when such horrifying stories are told. There's a few psychopathic nurse stories and this was is an enjoyable watch.

Tore (2023– )

Frustrating to watch
7 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The series started out watchable. The acting was OK at the start but as it went on there were many facets of the series that I just got irritated with.

The main character, Tore, just made me annoyed. I have never felt so annoyed towards a character like I felt towards Tore. I just wanted to shake him. He was socially inept, rude, a complete hot mess and this is without the information regarding his father passing away.

I completely didn't understand the need for the LSD scenes.

The spitting on Bosse's grave by Linn and Tore was a bit cringe.

And the selfishness of stealing the dog MJ/Cher from the new family and thinking that was an OK thing to do was just the weirdest last episode ever.

It's a no from me.
