The Brothers Sun (2024)
Starts off strong but..a waste of time.
I started watching the series because of Michelle Yeoh. The first two episodes are quite good but it soon starts getting increasingly difficult to invest into due to a weak script and poor humour. I seriously expected much better.
Cons:
Bruce is not funny, infact can be annoying most times. The brothers & mom chemistry was humourous at first but degrades over time. Bruce improv skit was BS. Hes so stupid he betrays his family more than once ready to have the enemies (a group of NGO assassins) kill his father and brother.
Weak and unrealistic script, a bunch of NGO workers somehow have enough power to go after a centuries old multi contry triad mafia and have snipers and high level assassins in their midst?
Why would the Triad heads even have the meeting in LA if the person who set up the meeting and who they were going to choose as Dragon Head backs off in the last minute?
The Deputy DA has enough power to have FBI Interpol etc dance on her fingertips all based on tracking of one phone? A real Triad member isnt dumb enough to carry the same phone especially when he has doubts that the girl manipulated and honey potted him. These are just a few of the Cons.
There are major loop holes and just a stupid weak script. I would forgive that and give a 6 or 7/10 if it was actually funny but the humour dries up after episode 2. This feels like a badly made 80s flick. They obviously had enough budget but the story is weak. Character development is negligible.
I had to push myself to complete the series after episode 5/6 because it was so brain numbing.
3 stars for Michelle Yeohs sublime acting skills and Charles as a character was quite good aswell but other than that it felt like a waste of time.
Carnival Row: Reckoning (2023)
Such a Gooood episode.
Really good episode. The pace, twists and turns, shocks and CGI was really good. This is a very underrated series and deserves more credit than it gets.
I feel like it touches every single important point be it from Slavery and discrimination to women being empowered and caged aswell.
Some really good acting from Cara, she has been great as Vignette this whole season. The same can be said for Orlando Bloom who has totally gone into his character. He seems a changed man in this role you can't recognise that the guy is Orlando Bloom.
This second season has really upgraded and improved upon the earlier one and I'm hoping it keeps getting better and finishes strong.
