best horror film i've seen for yonks!
blown away? scared? edge of my seat? yup this movie ticks all the freaking boxes!! wow what a nightmare journey, takes off where the first movie left off. first movie was very good, this one looks like it had a bit more backing and a bit more cash, and as a consequence is a heck of a lot better without taking away from the first...you don't have to seen the first don't worry, it's like a scene setter to this horror masterpiece...so it's in the style of cloverfield, diary of the dead etc... but it's just relentless and never pauses for breath, takes you down some spooky avenues and sojourns, and leaves you gasping! four rotten thumbs and a severed head up!
From Paris with Love (2010)
worst movie i've seen for a while
my first review for this film was rejected cos i was so angry after watching it and it was a very strongly worded review; too strong for IMDb? don't think it was rejected for bad punctuation. free speech! obviously have to be careful what i say, but i felt i had to attempt again to warn people not to watch this terrible movie. travolta shouts and shoots his way through this "letter from America" but it fails to impress. here lies no john McClane or Indiana Jones (real heroes) - there is no care here.... begone dull care in fact, as some would say...it's a bit like the scene in bad boys 2 where the guys run rampant in an SUV through a shanty town destroying people's homes while "chasing the bad guys", but it goes on for the whole movie. the other main character in the movie is basically a complete non entity, and as usual there are the usual rubbish sexist women's roles - just hanging about and looking sexy. well if bullets and shouting jingoist rhetoric's your thing (a lot of the other reviewers things i think), this film's for you. if not, don't touch it with a bargepole! although as a movie buff i admit there is something special about watching a film as bad as this... the choice is yours!
Murder Loves Killers Too (2009)
funky little horror film
dunno why this has a low average score, it's a very decent low budget horror film, just the right length, an 80s vibe to it, and it's gotta be said the music and sound is ace...sometimes music makes a movie, and in this case it's very true...the same film with crap music and sound design would've been pants...there's a great little whistling motif tune running through the whole thing and giving it a cheeky slant... yep i can't really fault this film - for what it is it's a fantastic way to use up an hour and a half of your precious horror movie loving life, not too much preamble before the nastiness gets underway either - Cloverfield did the preamble really well but since then it seems that all the new big budget horror films spend a lot of time hanging about with really unlikeable characters for the first half of the movie before they start getting bumped off. Not so with Murder Loves Killers.... Overall, two severed thumbs up!
Contact (1997)
Longer than Lord of the Rings, but also better.
A lot of talking punctuated every fifteen minutes or so with a loud vehicle shooting past the camera. Sounds bad? No it's actually pretty good. Worth a gander on a Sunday afternoon, preferably whilst in bed with a hangover and some scrambled eggs. Watch out for Gary Busey's son playing...?? you find out. You'll go "Hmm that looks like Gary Busey, but not quite" Genuinely entertaining this is the most rare of things - an American film without any guns. Oh, hang on there are some. On some troops that come storming into the lab inexplicably as they first intercept the messages. Shoot the messages!! Go Guns! Let's just say we have a lot of faith in this movie. wink wink.
