Mosley (2020)
Not Who You Were Led to Believe
I love these doc's but this one is special, it shows a man who would hold his hands up when he got it wrong, it also shows a man who was constantly in the same target that some of us feel is aimed at us from birth, the target that finds fault and places blame on you at every opportunity it can, an obviously high IQ man who some wouldn't ever grasp fully, a man who strived to improve road safety and one who would go head to head with injustice and then follow it up so those who couldn't defend themselves would be able to, so bulletproof as well, the only time he actually breaks is when the death of his son is mentioned the rest goes over him like a racing incident, it leaves you or at least it did me thinking this man was so smart he was a danger to the climbers and those with an agenda, it's not about the scandal or F1 as such but is a great insight to how a maverick works, fire truck coming through a dead end road that's blocked by parked cars in an emergency.
The Vanished (2020)
Solid Seven
Watched this because I am a fan of Thomas since his Stander film, I got where it was going about the same time I realised the Sheriff was Jason Patric around 2/3rd's of the way in, it twists and has you suspecting just about everybody until you work it out but this doesn't spoil the ending which in itself is quite sad, the film is the work of Nurse Jackie actor Peter Facinelli who also plays the deputy and if this directing is anything to go by he won't be in front of a camera much longer as the whole thing is done as well as a seasoned name would direct, so I can recommend you watching it but you must be in the down & gritty mode as it's kinda slow and a bit too same location in the one room two actors sort of genre.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Typical Disaster Movie
The film crosses over a disaster with humour and it works, however the script I felt was nothing I hadn't seen before, the acting and cast are good and I've given it a 6* as the ending was 10* material but you have to watch the credits to see the real ending, without this it would've been a 5* just because it is a typical end of the world movie, as said the dry humour aspect lifts it a bit as well, worth watching if you like these sort of films.
Reacher (2022)
Roadhouse Meets The Marine
Quick one just to say I enjoyed it and anyone who likes things like Roadhouse, Banshee etc won't be disappointed, our loner rolls into smalltown and gives the local boss a spanking.
Doctor Sleep (2019)
Good Horror Flick
Not sure how to describe it without ruining it for someone whose not seen it yet, take your average horror movie and add a few stars, story lifts it out of being a slasher bore so it's more of a psycho horror, if you like the first five series of American Horror Story I think you'll enjoy this.
Fantasy Island (2020)
Loved it
While it's not a blockbuster type film it's also put together very well, it keeps you guessing whose the actual guest pretty well all through, there's shades of Indiana Jones, Romancing the Stone, Platoon all packed into a prize vacation story that twists and turns with borderline but poetic comedy, cast is very good as well without anyone being the latest darling of the Wood, it's kinda a lightweight watch so if you like heavy going movies this isn't you but a longish movie that doesn't drag.
Brighton (2019)
A lesson
I'm giving it a 7 purely because it's an example of how things change, some for the better, some for the worse, the film features 4 old friends who met in Brighton when they were young and ended up marrying each other hoping that nothing had changed when they re-visit as old people, the best elements in this are the foul language bickering between the main cast and the story of one meeting a lady her dad saved when she was a little girl herself, her dad dies saving the girl but because he didn't come back she thought he'd abandoned her, one thing it isn't is a jolly movie although it is comical in itself but I'd expect a mature audience will get more from it than a young one as they can relate to the content where young ppl will have no reference point having not experienced anything other than what they've seen so far, so if you're over 40 I think you will up mark it and under you'll be bored watching it as you won't be able to relate to it, overall it's a movie that was worth watching but could be graded anywhere between 1 & 10 depending on whose viewing it, Larry & Phil work it well between them.
Shuffle (2011)
Found a Gem
Streamed this yesterday not expecting much as it has a short run time but what do we find? A film that's reasonably original and keeps you guessing until the final moments what it's really all about where it all just falls into place and makes sense, it's not a grind to watch either as the story after the first 15 minutes shakes itself out into the vehicle that it is and moves through the gears, if you're reading other lower ratings for it it's probably because the user didn't catch the last few minutes of it and hence missed the scene that set it apart from just a film to a good film, if you like things like Butterfly Effect, Groundhog Day and any others that work in flashback you'll enjoy this.
Koma (2019)
So So
Streamed this and it was so so, visually it's really well done and finds itself in a Mass Effect video game sort of landscape with splashes of Fallout which quickly became too dystopian for me, I think another audience might like it though as it's in no way a bad film just not for me on the day, I'd also imagine if you are native to it's origins and know the actors/producers it would also add a couple of ratings stars to my scoring of it.
Screen Two: Coast to Coast (1987)
From fun times
This has always been one of my unforgettable movies, it's dated now but the humour in it is so alive, Lenny plays it of the time where a young lad like him would struggle in life but not give up, the film is a road trip one where Lenny wants to be the USAF pilot and everything American with it, while the US serviceman wants nothing more to do with it and the film semi promotes the Greenham Common anti war protest message of the time in a subtle way as it backdrops to a Motown soundtrack to enhance Lens wannabe DJ character, Lenny hams it up while John plays it straight where he's trying to stay out of sight with Lennie whose behaving like a laser light show, there are also quite a few well known actors in it as well who crop up as a mob boss, psycho Policeman excited at finding the feet of a murder victim, mortician comment's of (they don't match) followed by (tough s*** it's the last pair we have in the shop etc) Pete Postlethwaite as well for good measure, an absolute gem that along with the Comic Strip's Supergrass movie set the tone for a story set to a great soundtrack throughout, if you can find it and let yourself adopt the era you will love this, check them both out for a double hit of the 80's.
