Blank (2024)
Almost anti lesbian
This is a strange series. Its an age gap romance based on characters from 'the gap' series, but where that was romantic, this series feels a little disturbing and inappropriate.
The links are that sam's older sister develops a romantic attachment to a younger woman. There is also all the anger at her grandmother, who was responsible for the death of her younger sister.
The issue here is the characters of the two female leads.
One is a serious thirty six year old, who acts her age and has a lot of anger issues.
The younger woman is supposed to be twenty, but is dressed in hight school uniforms and acts more like a fourteen year old, this the relationship is more mother and daughter.
A little disturbing.
This makes me wonder about the makers of this series and if their intention was to show lesbians as a little perverted. I kept waiting for the younger character to show more maturety, but she didn't, even the morning after they had sex.
Gap (2022)
Addictive ad heatwarming
The problem with many GL and wlw series and movies, is that they are ultra serious and in most cases have bitter endings. Someone is dying, has emotional issues, not willing to come out etc. Not so here. The whole thing is a proper GL romantic story with a full HEA. Other series and film makers should take note.
Yes, you could say things are a little predictable, and some parts could be taken in the wrong light, for example, a Boss forcing a worker into uncomfortable situations, but only if you ignore all other other things going on and put each and every action under a microscope.
This is a proper GL romance from start to finish, with amazing chemistry between the two main characters. So amazing, that its almost impossible to not believe they are a couple.
It warms the heart, gives a wonderful HEA, and a relationship between the main characters that I dare you not to believe in.
PLEASE make more like this.
First Kill (2022)
Great and waiting for the next season
So, I'm not a fan of teen vamp stuff. Too much angst and roaming around feeling sorry for themselves.
This show is much more focused on the girls getting to grips with who they are and the various short comings of their families. Thus for me, the whole show was a lot more mature than the soppy vamp romance stuff that is usually made. Thus like real relationships, its wasn't about if they will get together, but if they can stay together.
One negative point though is the background stories on vamps, monsters and hunters appears to have been skipped. A bit more flesh on the overall setting would have been nice.
Sense8 (2015)
Best EVER, but for the open minded only
Quick note. If your looking for a mindless sci-fi then this is not it. There are many truths here you will not be able to handle.
For me, this is one of the most stunning series I have ever come across. The very concepts and ideals behind it, will push boundaries. Its beautiful and raw.
8 people from all over the world, bound together by both thought and emotions. There have been many stories about people being able to read each others minds, but this is the first time someone has taken a real look at what that means on an emotional level as well. Their emotions become yours as well, as you watch them laugh and cry.
This is real hardcore sci-fi/fantasy with 'what if's truly being thought through and shown at their best. A series that I think will be looked back on as well before its time and showed some real truths.
I have seen some reviews complaining about the sex scenes, but they have not thought things through. For the vast majority of people sex is about the most important thing in their lives and most probably tops the list on thought subjects. It may not be comfortable, but its the truth.
Disobedience (2017)
Great, but hard to watch
Such a well written and acted move. I can't really find fault apart from the fact, the whole film stirs up a lot of negative emotions.
If your looking for something that will lighten your mood, this film is not it.
If your looking for a film with an in depth look into strict society and its clash with modern views and lgbt, then this the movie for you.
Also Rachel Weisz is basically good in anything :)
Imagine Me & You (2005)
being an LGBT movie does not make this good
This movie was a complete waste of the great actors and film crew. The writers should be ashamed. I would rather watch the dumbest Hallmark crud than sit through this again.
I felt uncomfortable and really disappointed.
I'm guessing this was supposed to be a main stream British romcom, but someone sure went out of their way to sabotage it.
I mean the main 'romantic moment' of the football shout was just cringe worthy.
Fantasy of the Girls (2016)
Thoughtful and engrosing
I loved the thought put into the dialogue of the movie. Things mentioned earlier are repeated in places that push them to new meanings.
The cinematography was also good, with some wonderful dream and animated scenes, that highlighted the main character's child like view on the world, along with her understanding that she had so much to experience and learn, making this more a coming of age movie, wrapped in a love story.
Watch carefully to get the best from this film.
Yeon-ae-dam (2016)
Errr. Where is the rest of the movie
Ok, great acting, mega story. A true love story of two women struggling to love while remaining in the closet, but where is the rest of it?
Right at the end, ji-soo just returns with no explanation, get drunk and falls asleep in Yung-ju's bed. The next morning Yung-ju has a smoke outside and the movie ends.
Absolutely no hint as to why Ji-soo is suddenly back and where they are going from there. If feels like someone has run off with bits of the movie, including the end.
Thus my question. Where is the rest of the movie? Did the editor have a bad day?
Happy End?! (2014)
Left with a sad, but happy heart
I loved this movie. It went down paths I didn't expect, with fantastic actors and writing. All of that on a budget.
There are however some glaring mistakes, which kinda get to me. Why would a German girl living in Germany, be applying, let alone going to Harvard Law school? Why does her father look like he's closer to Boyfriend age and acting like such an idot? Also hasn't he figured out that if she goes to Harvard Law school, he basically won't see her again? A security Guard dragging a teenage girl by the ear. I can kinda guess which of them will end up doing time. Why would a hotel not let them stay? Two women, so what.
Valarie and Lucca are however both wonderful characters and the film is very watchable. The story line and writing with some exceptions, is great and the acting (except dad) is great.
Tipping the Velvet (2002)
A witty adaptation
This adaptation of Sarah Walters book is excellent. I loved the book and its characters, but with a few changes to the storyline, a level of wit and humor was added to a story that was more hardline than the series.
I can honestly say that this is one of the few times I've enjoyed a Book and a series for two different reasons.
I Am Not Okay with This (2020)
Just Fantastic
The only fault I can place with this series was that due to the Corvid 19 epidemic, a second season was cancelled.
The story is so well put together with wonderful characters and was moving along at such a good pace.
Even the ending was just right for the start of season 2, and then bam!!!.
Heartbroken here :(
Carol (2015)
Highly romantic and brilliant acting
This movie is in my list of favs.
Filming, sets, story, Directing, acting. All of them are top draw.
The glances across rooms, with no words. The lack understanding by friends, the pressures put on women, and the treatment of being Gay as a medical condition, where all shown, along with a husbands despair and frustration when the woman he loves cannot love him back.
For me this a a MUST see movie.
Heartland (2016)
A very watchable movie, but the byline is way off
This movie was well acted and put together, and I enjoyed it.
However, it in no way matched the description, from my point of view and the whole thing was a little obvious.
I mean literally 10 minutes into the film, i knew more or less what was going to happen.
Who Am I Now? (2021)
A very truthful story about self discovery and acceptance
I liked this movie a lot, but I think some think its a love story when that is far from the truth.
The story dealt with some hard facts when dealing with our own sexuality, and it did so with a real world vision instead of movie magic romance.
It left me thinking, yet hopeful.
Making a Murderer (2015)
facts are facts
What a lot of people don't understand is to what lengths, police and the legal system will go to, to hide or deny that they had done anything wrong.
The facts are clear that the first case was proven false an the police were clearly at fault. Lets not forget about that fact.
I think the murder of the a young woman near where the Avery's lived, was a perfect excuse for the police and prosecution to justify themselves.
Before anybody says that its too complicated, take a look at other cases on police and justice system failures and the lengths that they will go to to cover up or prove themselves right. For example in the Stephen Lawrence Case in the UK, the police actually sent undercover officers to get dirt on the boys mother.
The point I don't see in any reviews, and what is not mentioned, is the fact that the police used a woman's murder to their own advantage, thus a murder is walking around free and her family have not received true justice.
